Ollivier Jean-Baptiste,25, a vlogger from France living in China, delivered a speech on the latest episode of the China Daily Youth Power series. The episode, named “Timeless Tales from China”, was aired on Jan. 30.
In his speech, titled “Bridging Cultures: A Personal Journey from France to China”, Jean-Baptiste spoke about his initial impressions of China. Just like his family and friends, he saw China as a distant and mysterious place with a culture entirely different from France and other Western countries.
The idea of visiting China first came to him when his uncle, who worked in China, returned with endless praise for the Chinese lifestyle. “Everything, from the food to the scenery, was incredibly appealing to me,” he recalled.
Later, a Chinese woman introduced him personally to the everyday life of Chinese people. He learned to use WeChat, Alipay, and navigate Chinese social media, which exposed him to a different way of living. The woman later became his wife, and they moved to Beijing together in 2022, which Jean-Baptiste described as “eye-opening” for him.
“She took me to see the flag-raising ceremony. Witnessing countless young people rushing toward the flag, I was deeply moved. It’s a country of strength, unity, and love,” he said.
These experiences made Jean-Baptiste eager to explore different aspects of Chinese culture. He visited the Great Wall in Beijing and the Terracotta Army in Xi’an, Northwest China’s Shaanxi province. When he returned to France for vacation and shared photos of his travels and life in China with his family, they were also excited.
Apart from his personal experiences in China, Jean-Baptiste noticed that friendly interactions between the two countries are also increasing. After learning about the 15-day visa-free travel from France to China, his family and friends couldn’t wait to book their trip to China.
“I’m overjoyed to host them during the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations, showcasing China’s modern development and rich history,” he said. “I may be just an ordinary person with limited influence, but everyone can be a cultural ambassador.”
24. What inspired Jean-Baptiste to come to China
A. His uncle’s positive experiences. B. His family’s encouragement.
C. A Chinese woman’s introduction. D. His fascination with Chinese history.
25. How is Paragraph 6 mainly developed
A. By listing data. B. By giving definitions.
C. By making comparisons. D. By providing examples.
26. What can we know from Jean-Baptiste’s words
A. He is easily moved.
B. He is impressed by Chinese people.
C. He travels around China with curiosity.
D. He tends to serve as a cultural ambassador.
27. Where can we probably read this text
A. In a guideline. B. In a website.
C. In a government report. D. In a parenting magazine.
C
Life is hard-even harder than anyone thought it would be. When you were younger, you dreamed of the world being your playground, and you were told that you could do anything and be anyone you wanted. Somehow, though, things haven’t been the smooth sailing that you wanted them to be. The world seems to go against you, and the last thing you want to hear is “Cheer up!”
Still, there’s a couple of things you might not notice about your situation. Next time you’re down, maybe the following will provide motivation.
Firstly, not everything is bad. It’s a well-accepted fact that bad news makes for sensational (极好的) television ratings. The fact is that something negative catches a lot more attention than something positive, and that’s because it’s easy to see things in a negative light. However, that shouldn’t distract you from the bigger picture.
Resist the tunnel vision that results from constant negativity. Remember that even though there’s lots of really nasty stuff going on, you’re surrounded by some pretty awesome stuff as well.
You should also remember other people aren’t you. No one likes being compared to another person. What makes it even worse, if that’s even possible, is when you do it to yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to another person and you’ll realize that you’re much more awesome than you give yourself credit for.
Lastly, failure isn’t where the game stops. So you tried something new, but you didn’t follow through. Frustrated at yourself, you stop trying. As a result, your quality of life goes down terribly. You’ve given up on it, though, because you don’t see the point (since you failed the first time).
Now, you’re an adult. The things you are trying are much more complicated than five-year-old you. However, your behaviour shouldn’t change in the slightest-when you fail in something, that’s just more information in your data bank. You know that method doesn’t work, so try another one! And another one after that! Do this until you figure it out. Giving up is for losers, and you sure aren’t one of those.
28. The author mentioned bad news in order to show that .
A. bad news makes people see things in a negative light
B. bad news is more likely to catch people’s eyes
C. bad news attracts people to see positive things
D. bad news has a negative effect on television ratings
29 What does the underlined part “nasty stuff” in Para. 4 probably mean
A. Unstable emotions. B. Important events.
C. Amazing incidents . D. Something unpleasant.
30. How should we view failure according to the passage
A. We will change our behaviour.
B. We will keep trying the old method.
C. We should learn from failure.
D. We should think in a more complicated way.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. It inspires us to learn from negative experiences.
B. It compares negative and positive experiences.
C. It criticizes those who are affected by bad experiences.
D. It discusses how negative experiences affect others.
D
Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the country.
The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.
Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, “I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come.”
Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut(问世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $ 5.5 billion resort(度假胜地) covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.
Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.
“We didn’t build Disneyland in China, we built China’s Disneyland,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s chairman.
There’s a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb(服装)to appeal to an Asian audience.
In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
“The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories,” said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.
However, China’s Disneyland sometimes are not closely related to China. Disney’s only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and afloat in the parade.
32. What’s Joe Schott’s attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort
A. Disappointed. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Confident.
33. What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6
A. They build the theme park in China.
B. The theme park belongs to China.
C. The theme park has Chinese elements.
D The theme park has a long Chinese history.
34. Why does China’s Disneyland have all kinds of princesses
A. Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess.
B. Chinese people don’t know any princess characters in Disney movies.
C. Chinese people believe “the more, the better”.
D. Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
35. What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example
A. To show the Chinese character of Disneyland.
B. To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture.
C. To show China’s Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture.
D. To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.

The History of the Automobile
The automobile, more commonly known as the car, certainly counts as one of the greatest inventions in human history. ____36____
As to who invented the automobile, the answer is not quite so clear-cut. While some give credit to Karl Benz, who patented the first gas-powered vehicle in 1886, others give the praise to Gottlieb Daimelr. Incidentally, the two inventors’ companies merge (合 并) in 1926 to form the famous Mercedes-Benz.
____37____ It was Henry Ford who designed a system of mass production that allowed him to produce cars far more cheaply, which in turn meant he could sell them at lower prices. By 1927, 15 million of Ford’s famous all-black Model Ts had been produced. Mass car ownership had become a reality.
____38____ Inventors were working on electric vehicles around the same time that gas-powered ones were being developed. The first electric car was designed in 1884 by Thomas Parker, the same man who electrified the London Underground. By 1900, electric vehicles were giving gas cars a run for their money. They were quiet, did not give off emissions, and were easier to drive, especially for women. ____39____ They were difficult to charge when most people’s homes didn’t have electricity. They were also rather expensive. In the end, Henry Ford’s cheap Model T put an end to interest in electric cars which didn’t become popular until the gas shortages and environmental concerns of the late 20th century.
Now, early in the 21st century, we find ourselves on the brink of yet another age in automobile history. Electric cars are set to make the gas-guzzler (油 老 虎) out of date. ____40____ Benz, Daimler and Parker would surely be amazed by how far their dreams have come.
A. But why were early electric cars not popular
B. However, they weren’t without shortcomings.
C. They were also popular in European countries.
D. It allows people to travel great distances quickly, safely and cheaply.
E. And self-driving cars may soon make human drivers a thing of the past.
F. At first, European models were far too expensive for most people to buy.
G. Many people think of electric vehicles as a new invention, but actually that’s not the case.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eight o’clock on a May morning and Mary, my 17-year-old daughter, was in our study upstairs. It had served as her classroom ever since schools moved to remote learning due to the COVID-19.
From the kitchen, I listened to the sound of her tapping on the laptop or her communicating in their Google Meet session s with her friends and teachers. I resisted the desire to check on her. Way too often, I would find Mary texting friends and commenting on their Snapchat and Instagram posts about the fun they were having together. I felt it safer not to care. After all, we’d barely left the house for 10 weeks straight.
“Mom, everyone is hanging out today!” Mary’s voice came from upstairs. “Why can’t I ” I went up the stairs. Mary was lying on the floor, her laptop, school iPad and cell phone in front of her. “It’s unfair,” she said. “I have no one I can be with. I can’t wait until I’m 18. and can do what I want.”
We’d had this conversation before. Still, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. I was sick of isolating (隔离) too. Even though Mary and I were at home together more than we had been in years, we might as well have been living in separate worlds.
“Wanna watch Netflix later ” I asked. “Bake some cookies ” “No, thanks.” Mary shook her head, as if the idea of doing something together was quite beyond her. I was used to Mary’s rejection, but it still hurt. Teenage independence is healthy, but I worried that if I didn’t find a way to bond with my girl soon, I might never be close with her again. She’d be 18 in the fall and had already convinced herself she didn’t need me anymore. Maybe she was right. No matter what I did, I couldn’t seem to reach her. That evening, I logged onto Facebook and saw a friend’s family playing with their new kitten together. My mind went back to the difficult period when I was in high school and our family moved to the new city. It was a gray tabby (虎斑猫) with which Mom surprised me that brightened my days and got me through that difficult, lonely time.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
It suddenly occurred to me that having a cat in our house might help.

【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段第三句“The fact is that something negative catches a lot more attention than something positive, and that’s because it’s easy to see things in a negative light.(事实是,消极的东西比积极的东西吸引更多的注意力,这是因为人们很容易从消极的角度看待事物。)”可知,作者提到坏消息是为了说明坏消息更容易吸引人们的眼球。故选B。

D. The theme park has a long Chinese history.
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. A 35. C
根据第三段“I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come.”(我可以向你保证,还有很多事情要透露,我迫不及待地想在未来的岁月里与大家分享这一切。)可知,Joe Schott对上海迪士尼乐园的态度是充满信心的。故选D。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段““We didn’t build Disneyland in China, we built China’s Disneyland,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s chairman.”(迪士尼董事长鲍勃·伊格尔表示:“我们不是在中国建造迪士尼乐园,而是建造了中国的迪士尼。”)和第七段“There’s a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb(服装)to appeal to an Asian audience.”(有一家传统的中国茶馆,以当地食物为特色。
根据第八段“When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses.”(当发现中国人没有最喜欢的迪斯尼公主时,该公司决定将所有公主都放在城堡里。) 可知,因为中国人没有特定的最受喜爱的迪士尼公主,所以在中国迪士尼乐园有迪士尼电影中所有的公主。故选A。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“However, China’s Disneyland sometimes are not closely related to China. Disney’s only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and afloat in the parade.”(然而,中国的迪斯尼乐园有时与中国没有密切联系。

D. It allows people to travel great distances quickly safely and cheaply.
E. And self-driving cars may soon make human drivers a thing of the past.
F. At first, European models were far too expensive for most people to buy.
G. Many people think of electric vehicles as a new invention, but actually that’s not the case.

Eight o’clock on a May morning, and Mary, my 17-year-old daughter, was in our study upstairs.

【答案】It suddenly occurred to me that having a cat in our house might help. “You want to get a kitten ” I asked Mary. “Oh, Yes!” she relied eagerly. “I want an orange tabby. A male!” The next morning, I called shelters, but no one had any kittens, let alone a male orange tabby. I was about to give up when one shelter responded telling me that an 8-week kitten who lost his mom was seeking help and they also sent a photo. Showing the photo to Mary, I was pleased to see her eyes round, sparkling with excitement. “This is exactly my dream kitten. Do get it for me, please, mom.” Mary begged in a thrilled tone, holding my arm with wild joy. It was so long since we got that close to interact that I was almost moved to tears.
We immediately decided to take the cat from the shelter home. Having made preparations together, we waited eagerly for the new member to arrive. Then came Ron, named by my daughter, a really active fellow who often brought laughter to us everywhere he popped up. Mary worked with me to look after him, train him and enjoy her time with Ron. To my great joy, I could hear more laughter from Mary, who shared loads of warm scenes of the whole family having fun together in her Instagram posts instead of locking herself in the study all day long. In a sense, the invisible wall between us seemed to have been broken down. Sometimes, there is no need to seek magic for a change, and a bond that clicks alive can work miracles .
