It was an oral English class and in front of us was standing our teacher Linda, who was a university student from the US. Somehow we came to the point whether any of us could sing an English pop in front of the class. You know, maybe three or more out of ten Chinese students are shy in class. As a result, there was silence in class for quite a while, which made everybody feel rather embarrassed, including the teacher.
I was a shy boy. However, just at that moment, a great idea struck me suddenly. "Seize the chance! Seize the chance! Yes, there couldn't be a better chance," I said to myself. "Why not seize it Why should I have always to be the guy regretting missing the chance just because of shyness " Yes, maybe I should have a try.
So I raised my hand. And I remember that it took me quite a while to think what the song's name was. Though I sang no more than five sentences because of forgetting the lyrics(歌词), their clapping hands told me that I did the job well. Later, I got a gift and I was really happy.
I think that is one of the most unforgettable moments in my life. Through this experience, I've also got to know that we should believe that we can do the job well, no matter how difficult it seems for us. Just have a little more courage.

C. He wished to ask his classmate to sing.
D. He hoped to recite the lyrics of an English pop song.
26. After the teacher asked the students to sing an English pop song, ______.
A. a few began to sing one by one B. many students wanted to have a try
C. almost all the students were excited D. the students kept silent for some time
27. What does the author want to tell us in the text
A. Students should be active in class.
B. Hard work can help people succeed.

D. Being helpful can benefit oneself and others.

A recent study has found that being exposed to low temperatures creates more good fat which burns calories in the body. Being cold is similar to the effects of exercise, protecting against being too fat and improving health. The researchers have discovered that exposure to cold changes the make-up of gut bacteria(肠道细菌), which can lead to burning fat and reduce body weight.
While ordinary white fat, known as bad fat, piles on when we eat more calories than we burn, brown fat seems to burn extra calories to produce heat. Babies have lots of brown fat-they need it to keep warm—but there are small amounts in the necks of adults, too. Studies have shown that staying in a cold environment can speed the formation of more brown fat in the body.
Researchers predicted the health benefits of being exposed to cold may have something to do with gut bacteria. They exposed the first group of mice to a cold temperature of 6℃ for up to 10 days and discovered this caused a major change in the make-up of the mice's gut microbes(微生物), preventing the mice from gaining weight.
Then, the gut bacteria were put into the second group of mice that did not have gut microbes. It was found that they increased tolerance(忍耐力) to cold temperatures. The mice also lost weight as the changes in gut bacteria sped the formation of brown fat. However, after three weeks of cold exposure, the body weight began to remain stable.
Professor Mirko Trajkovski said that they provide powerful evidence that gut microbes play a key role in people's ability to adapt to the environment. They are excited about testing whether gut microbes could be a promising approach to preventing being fat.
28. What's the new result of the recent study
A. Being cold helps people lose weight.
B. Good fat has nothing to do with calories.
C. Gut bacteria will stop producing brown fat.
D. Exercise can change the make-up of gut bacteria.
29. What do we know about brown fat
A. It's usually considered as bad fat.
B. It fails to produce in a cold environment.
C. It can't be found in the bodies of adults.
D. It burns more calories in low temperatures.
30. With the gut bacteria, the second group of mice ______.
A. kept losing weight every day
B. had much less brown fat in the cold
C. gained a better ability to stand the cold
D. could produce more bad fat in the body
31. According to Mirko Trajkovski, the result ______.
A. may cause more people to take exercise
B. shows people how to get used to the cold
C. makes people realize the importance of keeping warm
D. could provide new treatment for overweight people
D
Some of the world's most famous musicians recently gathered in Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day. UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying(统一) voice across cultures.
Despite the celebrations, though in the U. S., the number of the jazz audience is getting smaller and the audience grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations.
It's Jason Moran's job to help change that. As the Kennedy Center's artistic adviser for jazz, Moran hopes to widen the audience for jazz, make the music more accessible, and preserve its history and culture.
"Jazz seems like it's not really a part of the American appetite," Moran tells National Public Radio's reporter Neal Conan. "What I'm hoping to finish is that my generation and younger start to reconsider and understand that jazz is not black and white anymore. It's actually color, and it's actually digital."
Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost. "The music can't be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958. It has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not the same," says Moran.
Last year, Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller's music for a dance party. "Just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music," says Moran." For me, it's the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion lie Are we, as humans gaining any insight(感悟) on how to talk about ourselves and how something abstract as a Charlie Parker record gets us into a dialogue about our emotions and our thoughts Sometimes we lose sight that the music has a wider context," says Moran, "So I want to continue those dialogues. Those are the things I want to encourage."
32. Why did UNESCO set April 30 as International Jazz Day
A. To protect cultural diversity.
B. To recognize the value of jazz.
C. To remember the birth of jazz.
D. To encourage people to study music.
33. What does the underlined word "that" in paragraph 3 refer to
A. Jazz becoming more accessible.
B. The jazz audience becoming larger.
C. Jazz being less popular with the young.
D. The production of jazz growing faster.
34. What can we infer about Moran's opinion on jazz
A. Jazz will disappear in the future. B. Jazz remains black and white.
C. Jazz should keep up with the times. D. Jazz changes every 50 years.
35. What's the text mainly about
A. Exploring the future of jazz. B. The rise and fall of jazz.
C. The story of a jazz musician. D. Celebrating the Jazz Day.

My neighbor, Mrs. Green, drives only on Tuesdays. She never drives more than 30 kilometers an hour. Is her car old and small No, it is new and large. It can go 200 kilometers per hour. My friend Mike is an artist. He paints pictures with lots of colors. But his car is black! Mrs. Bates has a very, very old car. It often has engine trouble. Is she poor No, she has four restaurants and two million dollars in the bank. My uncle, Joe, has a very small car. Every Sunday, he drives to the country with his wife, his three children, his mother and their dogs.
