Robot Chef Learns to Twirl (旋转) Pizza Like a Pro
Pizza has a proud history of fueling late-night lab work, and scientists in Naples—an Italian city famous for its pizza—have easy access to some of the world’s tastiest take-out. But what inspires engineer Bruno Siciliano is not that first bite 21 much as how the dish is made.
“Preparing a pizza involves an extraordinary level of agility and dexterity (敏捷和灵巧),” says Siciliano, who directs a robotics research group at the University of Naples Federico Ⅱ. Stretching a deformable object like a lump of dough (面团) requires an accurate and gentle touch. It is one of the few things humans can handle, but robots cannot—yet.
Siciliano’s team 22 (develop) a robot able to make a pizza pie. RoDyMan (short for Robotic Dynamic Manipulation) is a five-year project 23 (support) by a ?2.5-million grant from the European Research Council. Like a human chef, RoDyMan must throw the dough into the air to stretch it, 24 (follow) it as it spins and anticipating how it will change shape.
RoDyMan has been working this spring toward a milestone: stretching the dough 25 tearing it. To guide the robot, Siciliano’s team asked master pizza chef Enzo Coccia to wear a suit of movement-tracking sensors. “We learn [Coccia’s] motions, and we copy them with RoDyMan,” Sciliano says.
RoDyMan uses visual sensors in its head to track the dough in real time. Using software, it can train 26 to handle the pizza like a chef would. The robot 27 (map) the dough’s position and tracks how it moves. Through practice, the robot 28 get better—much like humans develop “muscle memory.” Researchers hope RoDyMan’s technology can lead to a new generation of robots that will perform tasks in ways 29 are accurate and responsive, if not more lifelike.
Yet Siciliano admits that 30 compares with a traditional chef. “I would never eat a pizza made by a robot,” he says. “It would not have the taste a real pizzaiolo, with his soul, would put in it.”

Throughout the 20th century, Japanese towns and cities grew 31 . Today about 80 percent of the Japanese people live in urban areas. The growth of towns and cities, called urbanization (城市化), happens in two ways. One way is 32 rural-urban migration, when people move to the city from the country. As cities prosper and grow, industries and services that 33 many people both as workers and consumers grow to meet the 34 of the increasing population. New industries and services emerge to support the growing business, and the region experiences an upward spiral of growth.
The urban areas on the Japanese island of Honshu (本州岛) continue to grow 35 they attract more people, industries and business. These urban areas contain nearly two-thirds of Japan’s population and manufacturing. City suburbs are 36 in the rural spaces between the towns and cities, and Japan’s efficient and fast transportation system links them all.
Four 37 cities on Honshu-Tokyo Kawasaki (川崎), Chiba (千叶), and Yokohama (横滨) have grown together into one of Japan’s largest urban areas. Two other large urban areas have 38 on Honshu. The area around the city of Nagoya (名古屋) forms one, and the cities of Osaka (大阪),Kyoto and Kobe (神户) from the other. At the 39 time, these three areas are growing toward one another to form one long, enormous urban area. A single urban system this large is called a megalopolis. This Japanese megalopolis on Honshu, stretching from Tokyo in the east 40 the way to Kobe in the west, is called the Tokaido (东海道) megalopolis.

To prevent tsunami-caused disasters, several countries worked together to expand the use of a tsunami-detecting system that had been developed in the United States by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The system 41 of an instrument installed on the seafloor — called a tsunameter — that measures pressure changes caused by a passing tsunami. The tsunameter sends a signal to a surface buoy (浮标), which sends the data to a satellite, which 42 the information to warning centers around the world.
By 2004 only six such detectors had been installed, all in the Pacific. There were 43 in the Indian Ocean, and many countries in the region had no national warning centers that could have 44 local communities. That policy mistake had tragic consequences. In Sumatra people had only a few minutes to run, 45 the tsunami took two hours to reach India, and some 16,000 people died there. “It was totally unnecessary,” says Paramesh Banerjee, a geo-physicist at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. “Technically it would have been relatively 46 to install a tsunami warning system for the Indian Ocean.”
There are now 53 detector buoys operating in the world’s oceans, including 6 of a planned 27 in the Indian Ocean. So a (n) 47 of the 2004 horror, in which the tsunami traveled for hours and still caught people by 48 is less likely. But buoys would not have helped in Sumatra. People living on coasts near a rupturing fault (地壳断层) can’t wait for 49 that a tsunami is on its way, which it often isn’t; they must flee as soon as the quake hits. The Japanese warning system relies not only on tsunameters but also on seismometers (地震测量仪) — a thousand of them 50 the country, the densest network anywhere — combined with a computer model that forecasts the scale of a tsunami from the magnitude (震级) and 51 of the quake.
In March, the system, which is run by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), did not work perfectly. JMA’s initial 52 , while the ground was still shaking, put the quake magnitude at 7.9 — but later analysis revealed a quake that, at magnitude 9, was 12 times larger. The tsunami forecast warned of waves of ten feet or more — but they reached 50 feet in Minanisanriku and in some places even 53 . But the human 54 to the warning was imperfect as well. “I think this time many people who lived above the high-water mark of the 1960 tsunami didn’t bother to run.” says Jin Sato, mayor of Minanisanriku. “Many of them died.” The town’s seawall, he thinks, also gave people a false sense of 55

My 14-year-old son, John, and I spotted the coat almost at the same time. It was hanging at a secondhand clothing store. While the other coats looked rather depressed, this one looked as if it were holding itself up. The
thick, black wool of the chesterfield (长大衣) was soft and unworn. It was beautifully tailored and had an unbelievable price tag of $28. We looked at each other, saying nothing, but John’s eyes shone. Dark, woolen coats were popular with teenage boys; but could cost several hundred dollars new. This coat was even better, bearing that touch of classic elegance from long ago.
John tried it on and turned from side to side, eyeing himself in the mirror with a serious, studied expression that soon changed into a smile. The fit was perfect.
John wore the coat to school the next day and came home with a grin. “How did the kids like your coat ” I asked. “They loved it!” he said merrily, carefully folding it over the back of a chair and smoothing it flat.
Over the next few weeks, a change came over John. Agreement replaced protest; quiet, reasoned discussion replaced argument. He became more sensible, more polite, more thoughtful, eager to please. “Good dinner, Mom, ” he would say every evening. One day when I suggested that he might start on homework before dinner, John, who was always putting off doing stuff, said, “You’re right. I guess I will.”
When I mentioned this incident to one of his teachers and remarked that I didn’t know what caused the changes, she said laughing. “It must be his coat!” At the library, we ran into a friend who had not seen our children for a long time, “Could this be John ” he asked, looking up to John’s new height, assessing the style of his coat and extending his hand, one gentleman to another.
Sometimes, watching John leave for school, I’m reminded of what it felt like to be at his age — a time when it was as easy to try on different approaches to life as it was to try on a coat.
56.Why did John’s eyes shine when he saw the coat
A.It was the first time that he had been to a secondhand store.
B.It was pleasant for him to share the same taste with mom.

A.A big smile. B.A sad look. C.A jealous remark. D.An anxious thought.
58.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage
A.There was a trend of loving such coats among teenage boys then.
B.John used to be disobedient towards parents’ demands.
C.John acted like a gentleman after wearing the coat.
D.The teacher didn’t understand why John changed a lot.
59.Which of the following might the best title
A.A Special Shopping Experience B.A Caring Mother
C.A Magical Coat D.John’s Taste for Clothing

It’s easy to blame an achy neck and stiff shoulder on bad posture. But on many desks, experts agree, the quiet culprit is your mouse.
“There are a lot of delicate body parts involved in mousing,” explains Cameron Stiehl, a San Francisco-based ergonomic assessment specialist. “When you’re at the computer for hours at a time, having a mouse that doesn’t fit properly or is positioned incorrectly can cause soft-tissue injuries in the fingers, wrists, hands, elbows and even in the shoulder.” Countless ergonomic mouse models promise improvement. If you’re ready for a level up, here are four mice that will give you a hand.
1 | Semi-vertical mice like the Logitech MX Master 3S have a 30 to 45-degree slant, which can help reduce stress on the forearm muscles. It can help relieve discomfort from epicondylitis (or ‘tennis elbow’) or help a sore wrist. At 141 grams, the MX Master 3S is a bit heavy but is designed to be especially responsive so that you needn’t move it too much. You can also custom-program the functions of the mouse’s seven buttons and two scroll wheels, letting you avoid certain repetitive motions that can cause injuries. $100,
2 | Look past their uncanny resemblance to Kubrick’s HAL 9000. Trackball mice can be particularly helpful for treating shoulder discomfort by limiting most of your mousing movement to the fingers and wrist. For the most natural motion, Stiehl suggests the Kensington Orbit Trackball. It has both the namespace feature for moving your cursor with little effort and a ring-style scroll wheel encircling it. Unlike traditional scrollers, you use it like a dial. This, Stiehl says, makes the mouse “especially good for people who have issues like trigger finger” (when bending your digits causes them to painfully click and pop). The Orbit also takes the ergonomics a step further, with an included, detachable wrist rest. $50, Kensington. com
3 | A vertical mouse lets you position your hand not flat but tilted sideways as if you’re shaking hands with the device. This position, reduces wrist and forearm movement and can be soothing. The Logitech Lift version’s small footprint and light weight (125 grams) make it a good fit for small hands. “It’s not a long vertical, so I think it can be very comfortable if it fits the hand,” said Stiehl. Six buttons allow for control customization, and it comes in three colors (including a very cute rose), and is made of mostly recycled material. $70,
4 | Working away from your desk doesn’t mean you can’t cast an eye toward ergonomics. The Lenovo Go Wireless Vertical Mouse is a compact vertical mouse, powered by a single replaceable AA battery, which the manufacture r promises will last a year. It also features a handsome cork thumb divot. But the selling point is its smaller footprint, which makes it easy to pack with your laptop. $50,
60.According to the description, which product chart is Logitech Lift
A. B.
C. D.3
61.Sam is an office lady with loads of paperwork to complete, which results in severe neck-shoulder problems. Which of the following mice is highly recommended
A.Logitech MX Master 3S. B.Kensington Orbit Trackball.
C.Logitech Lift. D.Lenovo Go Wireless Vertical Mouse.
62.Which of the following slogans is the most suitable for Lenovo Go Wireless Vertical Mouse
A.Suited for smaller hands. B.A universal upgrade.
C.Trigger finger treater. D.Ergonomics can go everywhere.

Today China is the world’s biggest consumer of wheat. But it wasn’t always that way.
Wheat only came to the area now known as northern China toward the end of the Neolithic (新石器) period, some 4,600 years ago. Initially, wheat didn’t seem to be so delicious and had been treated as a crop of desperation rather than a cooking delight. The first farmers of northern China primarily grew millet (粟), starting as early as 11,500 years ago. By the time of the Tang dynasty, wheat had replaced millet, becoming a major crop. But relatively little was known about exactly why this shift occurred.
In an attempt to track the answer, I accumulated (积累) a collection of nearly 1,200 data points covering more than 50 sites from the mid-Neolithic, about 9,000 years ago, to the collapse of the Eastern Han dynasty in 220 AD.The sites were across 8 modern provinces, ranging from Gansu province in the northwest to Shandong province in the east.
One possible explanation is a major climate shift, called the Holocene Event 3, which happened 4,000 to 4,500 years ago. At that time, the climate became colder and drier across continents, causing damage to crop production.
On top of this, the late Neolithic period was also a time of rapid population growth around the world. With an ever-increasing population and unsteady crop production, it is reasonable to assume that Neolithic farmers in northern China were struggling.
Wheat, it turns out, actually needs more water than millet, making it seem a poor choice for a dry period of history. But importantly, it can be sowed after millet has been harvested. That, we think, is the most likely reason why the people across northern China started to grow wheat.
From more extreme weather to changing coastlines, climate change has always brought unexpected and sometimes dramatic changes to societies. In this instance, the consequence of the Holocene Event 3 in northern China proved, eventually, delicious.
63.What can we learn about wheat from the second paragraph
A.It replaced millet for its great taste. B.It was a poor choice at the beginning.
C.It outnumbered millet 4,600 years ago. D.It was the earliest crop grown in China.
64.What do the figures in paragraph 3 show

65.What was probably the main reason for northerners in China to grow wheat
A.The water supply was enough then. B.The harvest of millet was not satisfying.
C.It adjusted to the weather conditions better. D.It had an alternative sowing season with millet.
66.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.How was millet introduced to China
B.Why did Chinese farmers switch to wheat
C.How did China become the biggest wheat consumer
D.How was China’s wheat growth affected by climate change

Directions: Complete the following passage by using the sentences in the box Each sentence can only be used once. Note that there are two sentences more than you need.
A.If you are a gout sufferer, you are not alone. B.No one knows what's behind the phenomenon. C.Nor is it any longer exclusive to rich white men. D.The foot is red and swollen, pounding like a heart. E.We might dismiss gout as a ghost from a fable, which it was. F.The tubercular's hollow cheeks were considered desirable look for women.
Gout (痛风): The Disease of Kings
Gout, once the disease of geniuses, conquerors and kings, now is affecting the masses. But comes at night, first as a fevered dream, then pain in darkness, the body turned rude animals 67 So strong is the sensitivity of this swollen big toe that the faintest footstep of a sympathetic visitor is a gunshot straight to the nerve. It will not help, at such as moment, to recall that Alexander the Great, Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton reportedly suffered.
68 In the words of the 17 th -century French poet, Gout falls onto a poor man and then, horrified by her host's ceaseless labor, did nothing in a building. Surely it's a time of a less enlightened, more hierarchical(等级制的)age. We can laugh at from the safe distance of the present day. But the American critic Susan Sontag warned us against illness as myth. Gout is not a punishment, certainly not an embarrassment and, it is highly curable, if good treatment is followed. And the disease has not been limited to the past. 69 From the 1960s to the 1990s, the number of sufferers doubled in the United States, and that's continued to rise.
It is tempting to see gout as an annoying angel and come to punish greed. Mentioning the romantic aspect of tuberculosis(肺结核)in the 19th century, Sontag argued that gout was contrary to tubercular. The gout-ridden were guilty of eating too much, while those dying of tubercular were themselves consumed from the inside. During that period, turning thinner from tubercular was taken as a sign of elegance, with poets considered unreliable if they weighed more than a hundred pounds, and so "it became rude to eat heartily". Sontag also highlighted a strange social phenomenon. 70 Great men "grew fat, wrote novels and conquered continents."
IV.Summary Writing (10分)

The Problem of Packaging
A large source of rubbish is packaging material. It often makes up more than 30 percent of the total. To understand why this is true, think of the packaging commonly used for a simple product, such as toothpaste. The packaging includes not only the tube for the toothpaste, but also the box for the tube. This box is put into a plastic wrapper. Then, the boxes are transported in a cardboard container.
Most packaging material ends up in a landfill after it is thrown away. Though necessary, landfills take up valuable space, often stink, and can leak harmful substances into the soil. Landfills not included, the production of packaging material itself is a major source of air and water pollution.
People are now trying to solve the problems caused by packaging materials. In 1991, Germany took the lead by requiring companies to recycle the packaging used for their goods. To do this, the companies set up recycling bins in every neighborhood. Consumers now separate their rubbish into three categories—metal, plastic and paper cartons. They then put it into the appropriate bin. The rubbish sorted, it is transported to recycling company for processing.
The programme worked well at first. However, the amount of rubbish has begun to increase again. One reason for this is that many consumers no longer reduce waste because they think the problem is solved. It seems that to properly deal with the problem of rubbish, everyone must remain alert and do their part.

D.Because people needn’t concentrate on it.
13.A.It is the easiest way to lose weight.
B.It can be made part of people’s life.
C.It can make people’s hearts stronger.
D.It prevents people suffering from cancers.
【答案】11.A 12.D 13.D
Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot … you can travel fast or slow. The movement of your feet gets you where you need to go. But it also gets you so much more! Walking is a basic, simple exercise that’s suitable for almost everyone.
Walking helps you in many ways. First it makes you heart stronger. Studies show regular walking reduces your chance of heart disease. Walking quickly for 30 minutes a day also helps control high blood pressure. It can reduce your chance of developing some cancers, too.
Want to lose weight You need to burn 600 more calories each day than you eat. Walking is the easiest way. As people age, their brains don’t work as well. One in 14 people over 65 suffers from memory loss. Older people who walk six miles or more per week keep their brains in better shape.
Walking helps your mental health, too. Putting one foot in front of the other isn’t difficult. You don’t have to think about it, so you can concentrate on other things.
You can make walking part of your day. Instead of parking near your house, park a distance away and walk. Instead of taking the elevator, walk. Make walking a habit, and see how it makes you feel.
Questions:
11.What’s the topic of the passage
12.Why is walking good for people’s mental health

D.The speaker wanted to show his feelings through words after his experience.
【答案】14.B 15.D 16.C
When my family moved to America from a small village in Guangdong, China, we brought not only our luggage, but also our village rules, customs and culture. One of the rules is that young people should always respect elders. Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment in the United States. I had a part-time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. Once, when I was serving food to a middle-aged couple, the wife asked me how the food could be served so quickly. I told her that I had made sure they got their food quickly because I always respect the elderly. As soon as I said that, her face showed great displeasure. My manager, who happened to hear what I said, took me aside and gave me a long lecture about how sensitive Americans are and how they dislike the description “old”. I then walked back to the table and apologized to the wife. After the couple heard my reason, they understood that the problem was caused by cultural differences, so they laughed and were no longer angry. In the United States, people think “growing old” is a problem since “old” shows that a person is going to retire or that the body is not working well. Here many people try to keep themselves away from growing old by doing exercises or jogging, and women put on makeup, hoping to look young. When I told the couple in the restaurant that I respected the elderly, they got angry because this caused them to feel they had failed to stay young. I had told them something they didn’t want to hear.
After that, I changed the way I had been with older people. It is not that I don’t respect them anymore; I still respect them, but now I don’t show my feelings through words.
Questions:
14. Why did the speaker bring the couple their food very fast
15. What happened to the speaker after this experience

W: Hi, Bryan. How are you doing You look tired.
M: Oh, I’m a little burned out. I’ve been surfing the Net for the last few hours.
W: Were you doing schoolwork, or was it just for pleasure.
M: Well, I wanted to get some information on South America for a project I have, but I found a really interesting chat site with people from there and started chatting.
W: Well, did you get the information you needed
M: Yes, but then we spent lots of time chatting about other interests.
W: I see. The Internet is a wonderful place. There is so much information available. Sometimes I find myself looking for one piece of information, but by the time I have finished, I have a lot more than I started off looking for.
M: I know. One thing I really don’t like about it, though, it takes so much longer to find things, because many sites are useless.
W: Yes, there is that, and also, I often find the same site over and over again in a search. That definitely wastes lots of my time.
M: And of course, there are sites that offer little to no relevant information on the topic you are searching for. In my search today, I found quite a few sites that were nothing more than old event calendars.
W: Well, I’m sure they were useful to someone at some time, but they should be removed when they’re no longer of use to anyone.
M: I agree. With all the time I spend on it, I still find it to be the best source of information available. And speaking of information, I really should read through what I got on the Internet and start working on my subject.
W: Okay. Good luck. It’s funny we had this chat, as I was just on my way home to surf the Net myself.
M: Well, it was nice talking to you, and maybe I’ll meet you in a chat room later tonight.

21.so 22.has been developing 23.supported 24.following 25.without 26.itself 27.maps 28.can 29.that/which 30.nothing

分析句子结构,not so much as为固定短语,含义为“与其说是……
句意:RoDyMan(机器人动态操纵的缩写)是一个由欧洲研究委员会250万欧元拨款支持的五年项目。

The Japanese warning system relies not only on tsunameters but also on seismometers (地震测量仪) — a thousand of them 50 the country, the densest network anywhere — combined with a computer
model that forecasts the scale of a tsunami from the magnitude (震级) and 51 of the quake.

The thick, black wool of the chesterfield (长大衣) was soft and unworn.

根据第一段“My 14-year-old son, John, and I spotted the coat almost at the same time. It was hanging at a secondhand clothing store. While the other coats looked rather depressed, this one looked as if it were holding itself up. The thick, black wool of the chesterfield (长大衣) was soft and unworn. It was beautifully tailored and had an unbelievable price tag of $28. We looked at each other, saying nothing, but John’s eyes shone. Dark, woolen coats were popular with teenage boys; but could cost several hundred dollars new.(我和14岁的儿子约翰几乎同时发现了这件外套。
根据划线词后文““How did the kids like your coat ” I asked. “They loved it!” he said merrily, carefully folding it over the back of a chair and smoothing it flat.(“孩子们喜欢你的外套吗?”我问。“他们很喜欢!”他高兴地说,小心地把它叠在椅背上,把它抚平)”可知,儿子的同学都很喜欢这件衣服,儿子很高兴,是带着微笑回来的,故划线词意思是“大大的微笑”。故选A。

$50, Kensington. com
3 | A vertical mouse lets you position your hand not flat but tilted sideways as if you’re shaking hands with the
device.
【答案】60.B 61.B 62.A
根据第三个表格中的“A vertical mouse lets you position your hand not flat but tilted sideways as if you’re shaking hands with the device. This position, reduces wrist and forearm movement and can be soothing. (垂直鼠标可以让你的手不是平的,而是倾斜的,就像你在和设备握手一样。这个姿势,减少手腕和前臂的活动,可以舒缓)”可推知,Logitech Lift是一款垂直鼠标,就像你在和设备握手一样。结合图片可推知,B项符合题意。故选B。
61.细节理解题。根据第二个表格中的“Trackball mice can be particularly helpful for treating shoulder discomfort by limiting most of your mousing movement to the fingers and wrist.(轨迹球鼠标通过限制手指和手腕的大部分鼠标运动,对治疗肩部不适特别有帮助)”可知,山姆是一名办公室女士,有大量的文书工作要完成,这导致了严重的颈肩问题,适合使用Kensington Orbit Trackball。故选B。
But the selling point is its smaller footprint, which makes it easy to pack
故选A。

64.What do the figures in paragraph 3 show
A.The author found the exact answer. B.The author did the research cautiously.
C.The author did extensive research. D.The author was good at collecting data.

根据第三段“In an attempt to track the answer, I accumulated a collection of nearly 1,200 data points covering more than 50 sites from the mid-Neolithic, about 9,000 years ago, to the collapse of the Eastern Han dynasty in 220 AD. The sites were across 8 modem provinces, ranging from Gansu province in the northwest to Shandong province in the east.(为了找到答案,我收集了近1200个数据点,涵盖了50多个地点,从大约9000年前的新石器时代中期到公元220年东汉王朝的崩溃。这些遗址横跨8个现代省份,从西北部的甘肃省到东部的山东省)”可推知,第三段中的数字说明了作者做了广泛的研究。故选C。
65.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“But importantly, it can be sowed after millet has been harvested. That, we think, is the most likely reason why the people across northern China started to grow wheat.(但重要的是,它可以在谷子收获后播种。我们认为,这最有可能是中国北方人开始种植小麦的原因)”可知,中国北方人种植小麦的主要原因是它有一个可选择的播种季节。故选D。
66.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Today China is the world’s biggest consumer of wheat. But it wasn’t always that way.(如今,中国是世界上最大的小麦消费国。但事情并不总是这样的)”以及第二段中“But relatively little was known about exactly why this shift occurred.(但人们对这种转变发生的确切原因知之甚少)”可知,文章介绍了小麦开始作为农作物的历史以及小麦成为了主要农作物这种转变的原因。可知,故B选项“为什么中国农民转向种植小麦?”最符合文章标题。故选B。

67.根据前句“But comes at night, first as a fevered dream, then pain in darkness, the body turned rude animals. (但在夜晚来临,首先是一个发烧的梦,然后是痛苦的黑暗,身体变成了粗鲁的动物。)”和后句“So strong is the sensitivity of this swollen big toe that the faintest footstep of a sympathetic visitor is a gunshot straight to the nerve.( 这个肿胀的大脚趾的敏感度是如此之强以至于一个有同情心的来访者最轻微的脚步声都会直接击中他的神经。)” D“The foot is red and swollen, pounding like a heart.(脚又红又肿,像心脏一样怦怦直跳。)”
68.根据后句“In the words of the 17 th -century French poet, Gout falls onto a poor man and then, horrified by her host's ceaseless labor, did nothing in a building. (用17世纪法国诗人的话说,痛风症发生在一个可怜的人身上,然后,被她的主人无休止的劳动吓坏了,在一栋建筑里什么也没做。)”可知,这里陈述过去对痛风的认识很少,以至于人们对痛风不予理睬。所以选择项E“We might dismiss gout as a ghost from a fable, which it was. (我们可能会把痛风当作寓言中的鬼魂而不予理睬,确实如此。)”符合上下文语境。故选E。
69.根据前句“And the disease has not been limited to the past.(这种疾病并不局限于过去。)”和后句“From the 1960s to the 1990s, the number of sufferers doubled in the United States, and that's continued to rise. (从20世纪60年代到90年代,美国的患者数量翻了一番,而且还在继续上升。)”可知,痛风过去是美国富人经常得的,所以常常是白人的专利。所以选择项C“Nor is it any longer exclusive to rich white men. (它也不再是富有的白人男性的专利。)”符合上下文语境。呼应下文。故选C。
70.根据前句“Sontag also highlighted a strange social phenomenon. (桑塔格还强调了一种奇怪的社会现象。)”可知,后句介绍这种奇怪的社会现象。所以选择项F“The tubercular's hollow cheeks were considered desirable look for women. (肺结核患者凹陷的脸颊被认为是女性的理想外貌。)”符合上下文语境。故选F。
IV.Summary Writing (10分)
71. Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point( s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

I’ve learned that a photography exhibition is to be held and that you’re collecting advice on the way of arrangement. I’m writing this letter to share my opinions with you. In my opinion, it is more advisable to hold the photography exhibition in school library than on campus website. My reasons are as follows.
At first, the library of our school is spacious, which provides visitors with a comfortable environment for appreciating the exhibition, so they will have a nice experience. Besides, watching the exhibition at school library is more convenient for visitors to interact with others. Last but not least, a photography exhibition held on campus website has far less impact than that held in school library, because people may assume that holding a photography exhibition on website is just like a virtual activity. Therefore, I suggest the exhibition be held in school library.
