B. It can improve heart health
C. The benefits aren’t just physical
D. But there are videos available online too
E. They also improve flexibility and spatial awareness
F. Its low-impact nature minimizes the risk of joint injury
G. You can share experiences with these people face-to-face
F 2. E 3. C 4. A 5. D
2. 根据小标题 “It could prevent falls.(它可以防止跌倒)”以及上文“Certainly, the emphasis is on balance, with sideways and backwards movements aiding in the strengthening of the muscles necessary for stability(当然,重点是平衡,侧向和向后的动作有助于加强稳定所必需的肌肉)”可知练习太极可以避免摔倒是因为该运动有助于加强稳定所必需的肌肉。 其中also为语篇标志词,表示与上一句构成并列关系, they指代上句中的sideways and backwards movements。故选E。
3. 根据后文“Research shows that practising Tai Chi on a regular basis can enhance cognitive abilities in older adults, both those with and without memory issues. Given that it’s considered safe and suitable for the elderly, this is a definite win.(研究表明,定期练习太极可以提高老年人的认知能力,无论是有记忆问题还是没有记忆问题。
4. 根据本段内容“A reduction in stress and anxiety, along with an increase in confidence, is another mental health benefit of Tai Chi, as indicated by research findings, though further research is needed to comprehensively understand and confirm these effects.(研究结果表明,减少压力和焦虑,增加信心,是太极拳对心理健康的另一个好处,尽管需要进一步的研究来全面了解和证实这些影响)”可知,该段谈论了太极拳对心理健康的好处,包括减轻压力和焦虑,增强自信心。 故选A。
5. 根据小标题 “You can do it at home(你可以在家里练习太极)”以及上文“Attending classes can be beneficial for receiving structured instruction and connecting with like-minded individuals.(参加课程对接受系统的指导和与志同道合的人联系是有益的)”和后文“providing an alternative for practicing at home(为在家练习提供了另一种选择)”可知D选项“但是网上也有视频”符合要求。

9. 根据后文“Keep your language positive when you talk to your family. Avoid using language that puts blame on any of your family members or that feels negative. Negativity is a vicious cycle. A选项“Avoid the blame game. 故选A。
10. 根据本段段旨“Accept everyone’s faults, including your own. 以及“They say that blood is thicker than water, and that you can choose your friends, but not your family. F选项“You might be able to cut people out, but it could cause you more pain down the road.

(2024·北京朝阳·一模)In most adults, learning and thinking begin to decline as early as age 30. People start to perform slightly worse in tests of cognitive abilities such as the rate at which someone does a mental task. 11
These changes are often considered normal aging. But they may instead represent something more like the “summer slide” that some schoolchildren experience in academic progress during summer break. Recent research suggests that a pause of learning is indeed a problem causing cognitive reduction. 12
In a three-month intervention, the researchers provided an encouraging learning environment for 24 older adults. They took at least three classes to learn three new skills. They also discussed issues related to learning barriers and motivation. Over the course these participants’ cognitive scores for memory and flexibility significantly improved. In a follow-up study, the researchers discovered amazingly that they had improved further: 13 In other words, giving these seniors a multicourse routine seemed to bring up their abilities to levels similar to those of college students.
The researchers are still investigating why cognitive scores continued to climb after the program’s end, but one possibility is that the experience encouraged these older participants to continue learning and practicing new skills. Older adults are often assumed to be on a downward slide with unrecoverable loss. “Use it or lose it,” the saying goes. 14 Decline, as we so often see it, may not be certain. That’s why we need to create enriched learning environments for adults after their formal education and job training end.
15 Educators know how to educate children and adolescents, and we can adapt that knowledge to develop learning opportunities for adults. Societies could also provide resources and paths toward lifelong learning to ensure that everyone can benefit. Let’s shift the conversation about adults from avoiding loss and decline to learning and growing.
A. But this decline can be addressed.
B. The slide becomes sharper in their mid-60s.
C. Interrupted learning may not only affect children.
D. The question now is how society can maximize adult’s chances to keep learning.
E. Their cognitive abilities after one year were close to those of adults 50 years younger.
F. Older adult research tends to emphasize skill learning only after daily functions start to decline.
G. However, the research suggests they can increase both skills and cognitive abilities over a long term.
B 12. A 13. E 14. G 15. D
11. 前文“In most adults, learning and thinking begin to decline as early as age 30. People start to perform slightly worse in tests of cognitive abilities such as the rate at which someone does a mental task.(大多数成年人的学习能力和思维能力早在30岁时就开始衰退。
12. 前文“Recent research suggests that a pause of learning is indeed a problem causing cognitive reduction.(最近的研究表明,学习暂停确实是导致认知能力下降的一个问题)”说明学习暂停会导致认知力下降,下一段“Over the course these participants’ cognitive scores for memory and flexibility significantly improved. In a follow-up study, the researchers discovered amazingly that they had improved further(在这个过程中,这些参与者在记忆力和灵活性方面的认知得分显著提高。 故选A。
13. 前文“Over the course these participants’ cognitive scores for memory and flexibility significantly improved. In a follow-up study, the researchers discovered amazingly that they had improved further:(在这个过程中,这些参与者在记忆力和灵活性方面的认知得分显著提高。
14. 上文“Older adults are often assumed to be on a downward slide with unrecoverable loss.(老年人通常被认为是在走下坡路,失去了无法弥补的损失)”表示老年人被普遍认为认知在走下坡路,后文“Decline, as we so often see it, may not be certain. That’s why we need to create enriched learning environments for adults after their formal education and job training end.(正如我们经常看到的那样,衰退可能并不一定会发生。
15. 后文“Educators know how to educate children and adolescents, and we can adapt that knowledge to develop learning opportunities for adults.(教育工作者知道如何教育儿童和青少年,我们可以利用这些知识为成年人提供学习机会)”及下文“Let’s shift the conversation about adults from avoiding loss and decline to learning and growing.(让我们把成年人的话题从避免失去和衰退转移到学习和成长上来)”可知,本段重点在于提高成年人的学习和成长,D选项“现在的问题是,社会如何才能最大限度地增加成年人继续学习的机会”符合本段主旨。

Flexible Thinking for Your Career
Does work ever leave you feeling stuck in a rut (一成不变) with limited opportunities to be creative 21 But is this even possible, and if so, how to improve your flexibility
Most jobs require the ability to problem-solve and cope with challenges, at least to a certain extent. 22 If that teacher is a flexible thinker, they will be able to adapt their classroom management, even if they haven’t seen this situation before.
According to Leonard Mlodinow, author of Flexibility, flexible thinkers rely on idea generation (创意生成) and imagination. 23 “Flexible thinking is what you need when the circumstances change, and you are dealing with something new. It’s not about following rules.” Therefore, instead of following the typical procedure for inducting a new student, the teacher might come up with a tailored (特制的) response, based on prediction and previous experience.
24 According to Dr Lisa Feldman Barrett, it’s all about exercising the brain. One way of doing this, she says, is through exposure to a variety of experiences which make it easier to adjust to new situations. A lot of companies now consider flexible thinking in the workplace, especially when it comes to design. Workspaces may have couches where workers can lie down and relax, giving them the space to come up with and process new ideas.
Mlodinow says it’s very important to take time to daydream, listen to ideas and concepts you disagree with and spend time doing activities outside of your comfort zone. 25 So, if you want to make a change, you can become a flexible thinker too, with a little practice.
A. They are willing to experiment and take risks.
B. So, how can you become a more flexible thinker
C. To grow quickly, you might want to increase your brain’s flexibility.
D. Imagine a teacher who has a new and very nervous student in their class.
E. Researchers have also identified numerous personality traits that are associated with creativity.
F. This will help you understand multiple points of view and become better in many different aspects of your career.
G. Our research also indicates that people can practice flexible thinking every day when they experience negative emotions.
C 22. D 23. A 24. B 25. F
21. 根据上文“Does work ever leave you feeling stuck in a rut (一成不变) with limited opportunities to be creative (工作是否曾经让你觉得墨守成规,缺乏发挥创造力的机会?)”以及后文“But is this even possible, and if so, how to improve your flexibility (但这可能吗?
22. 根据后文“If that teacher is a flexible thinker, they will be able to adapt their classroom management, even if they haven’t seen this situation before.(如果那位老师思维灵活,他们将能够调整他们的课堂管理,即使他们以前从未见过这种情况)”可知,后文提到了老师和课堂,推测本句与班级教学有关。
23. 根据上文“According to Leonard Mlodinow, author of Flexibility, flexible thinkers rely on idea generation (创意生成) and imagination.(根据《灵活性》一书的作者Leonard Mlodinow的说法,灵活的思考者依赖于创意和想象力)”可知,本句承接上文,说明灵活的思考者所具有的特点。A选项中They指代上文thinkers。
24. 根据后文“According to Dr Lisa Feldman Barrett, it’s all about exercising the brain. One way of doing this, she says, is through exposure to a variety of experiences which make it easier to adjust to new situations. A lot of companies now consider flexible thinking in the workplace, especially when it comes to design. Workspaces may have couches where workers can lie down and relax, giving them the space to come up with and process new ideas.(根据丽莎·费尔德曼·巴雷特博士的说法,这完全是为了锻炼大脑。
25. 根据上文“Mlodinow says it’s very important to take time to daydream, listen to ideas and concepts you disagree with and spend time doing activities outside of your comfort zone.(Mlodinow说,花时间做白日梦,倾听你不同意的想法和概念,花时间在你的舒适区之外的活动是非常重要的)”可知,上文提到要花时间做白日梦,倾听你不同意的想法和概念,花时间在你的舒适区之外的活动,故本句承接上文说明这么做的好处。
