Aaron Green,a three year old boy, saved his mother's life by using her mobile phone to call for help. However, the little boy—who does not yet know ABCs and can only just count to ten—has never used one before.
Little Aaron managed to call his grandmother when his mother had a diabetic seizure(糖尿病发作).That evening,Miss Green returned home and didn't feel very well.Aaron found her the next morning lying on the floor, and was unable to wake her up.

His grandmother then immediately called Miss Green's best friend,Kara McCoy,who lives in the same street.Kara ran to the house and found Miss Green was completely unresponsive.Right away, she phoned 999 and the doctors rushed her to the hospital.Six doctors spent two hours trying to bring Miss Green back to life before she was taken to University Hospital Coventry. She spent five days in unconsciousness and awoke with no memory of what had happened.
She was later told she would probably have died if it had not been for Aaron's brave actions.Miss Green said,“If it wasn't for Aaron,I wouldn't be here now.It feels like I must have been watched over by an angel, who was guiding him what to do.I owe him my life—he deserves the world.I want everyone to know what a superman he is.”

Over the years we have seen some strange inventions created by some inventors, but what are the strangest inventions of all time? That is a question that has been asked thousands of times before, and we can be certain that you will always get a different answer.
There are those inventors who seem to climb__inside__their__minds and stay in their own world. This often becomes evident(明显的)in their strange creations. So we thought we could track(追踪)down a few of what we believed to be the strangest ones.We came across a website called InfoNIAC,and we thought we had found some strange inventions of all time.
The first is an invention called “Why Knot(打结)” and it is designed to do up a tie for you. There are two problems here—the size of the machine, and how slow it would be.And one more thing, what was Seth Goldstein thinking when he invented it
Next we have Alpha Omega Galaxy Freefall Generator. The inventor said that the machine actually created more free power than it took to power it.If it is really that good, then where is it now
The final one that we believe to be strange is the Bowlingual, which is a dog translator—it is not a Google April Fool. The company made one in 2002,and it is said to be a newer version(版本).We just have one question: why
These are just three of the strangest inventions of all time;do you have any others to add to the list

What makes children happy is candy. And more candy is better, right?Well,it turns out that it might not actually be the case.A few years ago, researchers did a study on Halloween night when some trick or treaters were given a candy bar,and some others were given a candy bar and then a piece of bubble gum(泡泡糖).
Now,you would imagine that the kids who got a candy bar and a piece of bubble gum would be happier than the kids who got just a candy bar.George Wolford,a psychologist at Dartmouth College, and his fellow researchers found something quite different.
“Those children, who got both a full sized candy bar and a bubble gum, were less delighted(高兴的)than those who got a candy bar only,” said Wolford.
It actually depends on the order in which these things happen. In the study, the kids got a great treat first and then a not so great one afterward. In other words, they got a pleasant procedure(过程)first and then got something slightly(稍微地)less pleasant afterward. And it turns out that when they think about the experience, they don't think about the experience as a whole—they only judge by how the experience ends.
So if we have a great experience that starts to go__downhill,we will consider the whole experience as being not so good. However,if something starts out terribly and then starts to get better towards the end,we will think the whole experience a little bit better.
“If you're in a painful experience and it's getting better, then there's a sense in which things are improving,” he said.“If you're going from a nice treat to a lesser(次要的)one, the case is going the wrong way.”
So if you get a lesser treat first and a nicer one second, you're likely to be very happy;but if you get a nice treat first and a lesser one second, you're likely to be more dissatisfied with the whole experience.

Fat,not thin,is today's heated topic. But studies show that we don't notice that because it has happened gradually and we have got used to seeing people who are overweight.Men are fatter than women in the UK(67% of men and 57% of women are overweight or obese).Socio economically poor areas tend to have higher rates of people who are overweight. There is a community effect: you are more likely to be overweight if your friends and neighbours are.
Moderate(中等的)obesity cuts life expectancy by two to four years and severe obesity by a whole decade, according to a major study in 2009.This is most likely to affect today's children.“Obesity is such a problem that this generation of children could be the first in the history of the United States to live less healthful and shorter lives than their parents,” said Dr David S Ludwig, director at the Children's Hospital Boston.
More and more very young children are putting on weight and they will find it hard to lose it.It is far harder to get rid of weight than to put it on,even as a child. Some experts think that if we want to prevent obesity,we will have to find ways to help parents from,or even before, the birth of their babies.
Breastfed babies, who can look skinny, compared with their bottle fed friends,in fact usually have the right weight.Big,fat babies, contrary to the old wisdom, are not healthier babies.Slow growth is the best.Low birth weight babies,in particular, should not be overfed to help them catch up.
Those who think children are getting fat because they sit in front of televisions too much may also be wrong.A finding from EarlyBird is that inactivity does not lead to obesity—obesity leads to inactivity.

So last June,Myers and four of his students took a boat ride down a river. They saw alligators and crocodiles. In the middle of the week,a guide took Myers and his students into the rain forest.“The monkeys were not happy that we were in their forest. They broke small branches off the trees and threw them at us,” one of the students said.“It was a great learning experience for all of us,” said Myers.
Each student chose something specific about Costa Rica to study involving the plants, animals, food, and culture.During the last few days the group had time to do fun activities. They went whitewater rafting and horseback riding, and visited Costa Rica's active volcano.

Mr.Guo is a teacher from Xi'an.He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code(二维码).“We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate(使产生)the codes, and in the end everything gets easier,” said Guo.“When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat(微信).Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me.So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone.”
The QR codes can be sent to Mr.Guo by e mail,QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans(扫描)his students' QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative(创新的),with many pictures, music and even videos.
Guo's students like the new way and think it is interesting.“We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun.” said Tingting,a student of Guo's.
“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share,” Guo said.“It is worth trying to use new technology in education.Education itself is a kind of creation.I don't want my students to fall behind the times.”
However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact,it's unnecessary.Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn't take them too much time. Also for teachers,it allows them to check the students' work at any time. And it's also an easy way to share homework with other students.

Moderate(中等的)obesity cuts life expectancy by two to four years and severe obesity by a whole decade, according to a major study in 2009.This is most likely to affect today's children.“Obesity is such a problem that this generation of children could be the first in the history of the United States to live less healthful and shorter
lives than their parents,” said Dr David S Ludwig, director at the Children's Hospital Boston.

Mike Myers is a teacher at Chauncey Rose High School in Terre Haute,Indiana.Last year,he taught his students about the world's rain forests. They learned that rain forests are important because the plants and animals of the rain forest give us food, wood, and medicine.
Destruction of the world's rain forests is a serious problem.Unluckily, rain forests are disappearing at a rate of 80 acres per minute! As part of a class project,Myers' students bought three acres of rain forest in Central America. They paid $25 per acre. The students hope that the land they bought will be protected and not destroyed. The students became so interested in rain forests that they decided to get a closer look at a real rain forest.

Four in ten teenagers admitted they thought they were unable to stop using the Internet. Two thirds of the 2,000 students surveyed admitted they took their iPads, smartphones or laptops to bed.And some even said that they preferred the company of electronic products to people in real life.
