Sarah Toumi, a young girl growing up in France, had a dream of becoming a leader who could make a positive
impact on the world. Her desire to help others was awakened when she accompanied her Tunisian father to his
hometown in the eastern part of Tunisia during vacations. During her time there, she organized homework clubs and activities for children. Toumi personally witnessed the destructive effects of desertification (沙漠化). She realized
that within 10 years, wealthy farmers had become worse off. Toumi was determined to stop the progression of the
Sahara Desert. Due to a decrease in average rainfall and an increase in severe droughts (干旱), approximately 75%
of Tunisia’s agricultural lands are currently at risk of desertification.
Toumi understood the need for a shift in farming practices. She firmly believed that even small plots of land
could bring significant returns if farmers were willing to adapt. This adaptation involved planting sustainable crops,
using advanced water treatment technologies, and prioritizing natural products and fertilizers (肥料) over chemical
alternatives.
In 2012, Toumi took a decisive step towards realizing her dream of fighting desertification. She moved to
Tunisia and set up a program called Acacias for All, with the aim of putting her sustainable farming principles into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better
able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living without water. ”
By September 2016, over 130,000 acacia trees had been planted on 20 pilot farms, with a survival rate of 60% reported by farmers. Toumi estimates that around 3 million acacia trees are required to protect Tunisia's farmland. She plans to plant 1 million trees by 2018. In the coming years, Toumi aims to expand the program to Algeria and
Morocco.
24. How did Toumi’s holiday trips to Tunisia influence her
A. They made her decide to leave the country.
B. They helped her better understand her father.
C. They destroyed her dream of being a teacher.
D. They inspired her to help others.
25. What is the main cause of the desertification of Tunisia’s farmland
A. Cold weather. B. Soil pollution. C. Low rainfall. D. Forest damage.
26. Why did Toumi establish Acacias for All in Tunisia
A. To ensure access to primary education for children.
B. To promote the conservation of agricultural land.
C. To generate job opportunities for young people.
D. To persuade the farmers not to use fertilizers.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. The Impact of Desertification on Tunisia’s Agricultural Lands
B. Sarah Toumi: A Young Leader Making a Positive Impact
C. Addressing Poverty in North Africa
D. The journey of a French girl in Tunisia

Words are powerful: they have the ability to lift up the lowest of the low or tear down the highest of the high. But
a strong argument could be made that our body language is even more influential. The most effective communication
occurs when the importance of body language in teaching is acknowledged. When these nonverbal signals are
working together with our words, it creates communication synergy.
It has been suggested that two-thirds ofour communication is nonverbal. Positive body language in a classroom setting has the ability to motivate, inspire and engage. It can not only give you the confidence you need to teach but can also inform your students that you actually know what you’re talking about. It can even make your students feel
safe and confident enough to participate in the lessons more frequently.
Most leadership positions encourage body language that shows power and confidence. Signals include standing tall, gesturing only from the waist up, head straight and forward, and talking while pointing to others, which are obvious ways to exercise control. But when teaching, the nonverbal signals need to show a different type of leader. These signals convey warmth and understanding, reminding your students that you are approachable and there to help them grow. For example, fix your eyes on one student for about 15-30 seconds before changing to another student, which is one of the best ways to keep students’ focus. Nod your head. Give a thumbs up—maybe two! Show them
they are on the right path and they will be more confident in continuing down it.
The importance of body language can never be ignored. It’s desirable that you should advocate using body language in teaching and pay attention to the use rule and using skills. You should use right, natural and clear body language. It’s crucial that you create good classroom atmosphere, inspire students’ imagination and grasp students’
mood.
28. Which has a similar meaning as the underlined word “synergy” in Paragraph 1
A. Energy loss. B. Confusing result.
C. Individual effect. D. Combined power.
29. What do most leadership positions mainly express
A. Warmth. B. Control.
C. Understanding. D. Encouragement.
30. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To explain a theory. B. To make a description.
C. To give suggestions. D. To summarize a debate.
31. What is the text mainly talking about
A. The importance of teacher’s body language.
B. The effective ways of good communication.
C. The value of teacher-student communication.
D. The prospect of students’ nonverbal learning.

The design of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic torch (火炬) was shown on July 25, marking almost a
year until the opening ceremony (典礼) of the Paris Olympic Games.
The torch, measuring 70 centimeters and weighing 3.3 pounds, is made with lightweight radiant steel and is
known for its champagne color, a color of French white wine.
Mathieu Lehanneur, the designer of the torch said that he drew inspiration from three Paris 2024 symbols-equality, water and peacefulness. Equality is shown by perfect balance. Peacefulness is shown by the gentleness of the curves. The lower half features a relief pattern that copies the movement of the River Seine, along
which the opening ceremony will be held.
It will be the first torch in the history of the Games to be used for both the Olympics and Paralympics. Past designs have shared similarities but are different in shape and color. This is part of the organizing committee’splan to “build bridges between the Olympic and Paralympic Games”, Paris 2024’s president Tony Estanguet said in a
statement.
Equality means putting the same ambition into organising the Paralympic Games as the Olympic Games.
Following on from the medals to the mascots, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will share the same torch design.
Equality in the Paris 2024 project is also reflected in the strong promise to equality in the Olympic Games: For the first time in the history of the Games, as many women as men will take part in the competitions. Reflecting this desire for peace, the torch, with its curves and rounded lines, is filled with gentleness. The design of the torch
delivers generosity and unity.
“Such a project is a dream for a designer, because it’s a project that connects something symbolic and technical
in one, for a big moment,” Lehanneur said.
32. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The shape of the torch.
B. The inspiration of the torch.
C. The ceremony of the Games.
D. The location of the opening ceremony.
33. What is special about the torch
A. It is very heavy.
B. It is perfect in shape.
C. It copies the movement of the River Seine
D. It will be used in the Olympics and Paralympics
34. What can we infer from what Lehanneur said in the last paragraph
A. He had a passion for sports.
B. He wanted to be a well-known designer.
C. He felt a sense of achievement and pride.
D. He wished to connect everything together.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. A designer realized his dream B. Inspiration of the 2024 Games
C. Paris 2024 showed torch design D. Equality, water and peacefulness

It hasn’t been an easy year for the privacy of travelers,at least so far. Data leaks, surveillance(监视) worries and those troublesome cameras in airplane seat backs and hotel rooms are enough to make passengers anxious. 36 Fortunately, there are ways to safeguard your privacy on land and in the air. These tips can help you deal with
these troubles.
37 “It’s not clever to declare on Facebook that you’re traveling to somewhere ,reminding a wide range of people that your property is sitting empty , ”says Danny McLoughlin. “That puts your security at risk.” Wait
until you return to start posting vacation photos.
Some homeowners renting their residences may install security cameras. Travelers should find out if the hosts are required to disclose the presence of surveillance devices. If the rental comes with cameras ,ensure they
aren’t in a sensitive area by conducting a careful sweep. 38
Although you can’t control how a hotel or airline handles or mishandles your data ,you can take reasonable steps to ensure the information it has won’t get you into trouble. 39 But some of the worst data leaks happen when you’re staying at a hotel. For example ,a hotel clerk sometimes asks for your name and then announces your room number after you’ve checked in. You’re better off handing the employee your ID when he or she asks for your name and asking him/her to write your room number on a piece of paper. Why 40 Just to be sure,
never leave the customer copy behind. You can destroy it later ,but keep it under your control.
A. It’s never been better.
B. Perhaps they should be.
C. Travelers say they’re taking privacy seriously.
D. Never broadcast your journey on social media.
E. There are other people on the other side of the wall.
F. Some travelers only offer the bare minimum ,such as a P. O. Box instead of a home address.
G. Report anything doubtful to the host immediately and if you don’t like what you hear ,leave.

Dad and Madison were walking through the party store, gathering decorations for Madison’s upcoming
birthday party.
“But I don’t want to invite Lucy Gilbert! I don’t like her!”
“Madison, you are being unreasonable. If every girl in your class is invited to a party but you, you’ll feel left out.
It would be a big mistake not to invite Lucy to the party. ”“She never even talks to me! ”
Dad sighed and moved down the aisle ( 走廊). “Lucy is a new girl in class. She just moved here a little over a month ago. Think about how that must feel. She doesn’t know one single person in the school. She left all of her old friends behind and now she has to try to make new friends. Your party will be a great chance for her to get to know
everyone. ”
“No, it won’t. She will probably sit in the corner and not talk to anyone. Everyday at lunch she sits all by herself.
She wants to eat alone!" Madison shrugged and rolled her eyes (翻白眼).
“Madison, I’m done discussing this. You will invite every girl in your class, including Lucy Gilbert!"
On Saturday morning, the family blew up balloons and decorated the house cheerfully. Madison was dressed beautifully for the day, wearing her new blue dress. It was not typical of her to dress herself like this. She usually
wore sports clothes because she loved to be outside riding her horse Star with a lead rope (缰绳).
Madison greeted her friends at the doorstep, picturing (想象)various presents her friends would bring her. In the meanwhile, she was wondering whether Lucy would ruin the party if she came. Anyhow, all the girls she invited came finally, including Lucy. The girls had a fantastic time by singing and dancing while Lucy sat in the corner
silently alone. Later, all the girls gathered around the table as Madison opened her presents. Opening them one by
one, Madison thanked her friends, with a bright smile on her face.

【原文】Welcome to Focus on Sport. Today we’ll talk about how the Olympics can change the host city. The
Olympics can help the people who live there. A great example is the Beijing Olympics in 2008. They built a
fantastic swimming center called the Water Cube, and now families from all over Beijing can use it, and not only
for swimming — it’s a popular place to spend the day. So it’s really made life better in the city. The Olympics can
also help children. After the London Olympics in 2012, a lot of school children in London started a new sport.
Before the Olympics, many of them preferred to play video games and watch TV. Many people say the Olympics
cost a lot of money, but they can also make money for a city. Take the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics for example.
Before, tourists always went to Sochi in the summer to swim in the sea. But after 2014, people knew that you could
also do winter sports there, so now it has tourists all year around. It’s a big change. So, if someone tells you the
Olympics cost too much next time, tell them about the benefits.

Words are powerful: they have the ability to lift up the lowest of the low or tear down the highest of the high. But a strong argument could be made that our body language is even more influential. The most effective communication occurs when the importance of body language in teaching is acknowledged.
These signals convey warmth and understanding, reminding your students that you are approachable and there to help
them grow. For example, fix your eyes on one student for about 15-30 seconds before changing to another student,
which is one of the best ways to keep students’ focus.

B. It is perfect in shape.
C. It copies the movement of the River Seine

A. He had a passion for sports.
B. He wanted to be a well-known designer.
C. He felt a sense of achievement and pride.
D. He wished to connect everything together.
35. What can be the best title for the text

A. It’s never been better.

to HongKong Ocean Park, where we were impressed by a wide variety of amazing marine life. After supper, we
admired the fascinating night scenes of Voctoria Harbor(维多利亚港) from a cruise ship(邮轮).
The next day, we visited HongKong Disneyland and had much fun there participating in many thrilling
activities(刺激的活动). On the third day, we went on a sightseeing tour (去观光旅游)of the streets and purchased

Anyhow, all the girls she invited
came finally, including Lucy. The girls had a fantastic time by singing and dancing while Lucy sat in the corner
silently alone. Later, all the girls gathered around the table as Madison opened her presents. Opening them one by

【答案】高分范文
Lucy’s present was the very last to be opened. Worrying that it would ruin the party, Madison grabbed the present reluctantly. As soon as she opened the box, her eyes widened in surprise——inside was a delicately hand-made lead rope! Amazed at its beauty, Madison pulled it out of the box. “It’s a lead rope for your horse Star. I made it by myself!”Lucy added, “I heard you talking about your horse at school. That’s when I got the idea of making
you a lead rope. ”
Deeply moved by what she said, Madison held the lead rope tightly in her hands. It was the most beautiful birthday present she ever received. She suddenly felt so guilty because she had been so mean to Lucy. Feeling a mixture of regret and gratitude, she blinked back her tears and said, “Thanks so much for this lead rope. I love it! Would you like to join us and be our friends ” Lucy nodded cheerfully——Madison put her arm around Luey’s shoulders, both smiling. With applause and laughter echoing through the house, Lucy joined the other girls to enjoy
the party.
