Why do most of us live our life always caring what other people might say or think Some of the decisions we make are just to please the outside world around us. I have always lived life pleasing the ever over-demanding society. This had a great effect on my search for authenticity(真实性). I only felt good enough when people paid attention to me. So I would frequently do things to catch people's eye instead of placing emphasis on what really matters to me.
A recent experience changed my view. I had been looking for a tailor to mend some of my clothes. With the help of a few friends, I found one, who just so happened to go to the same gym as me. As we chatted, he shared his story and his use of drugs for muscle development with me. In his words, he weighed over 240 pounds and was the envy of a lot of people. So many people wanted to be like him and have a body like his, which made him use more drugs.
But within two years something happened. He began to have problems with his liver. The doctor advised him to stop using drugs and give up lifting heavy weights for a while. This was a hard decision because he had got so used to the attention from people. He didn't want to give that up; who would Right That was it. He made me understand how he lived his life for people. He lost sight of what was best for him.
He told me not to live life thinking about too much what other people think, feel, or say. Instead, live life with meaning. His story really has an effect on me. I have to look at my life to see what I do. I am not saying we shouldn't take the advice of others into consideration, but we must work hard for continuous self-awareness (自我意识). If we can know what we're doing and why we're doing it, we can realize just how important that thing is to us.

Born in London in 1825, Thomas Henry Huxley was one of the greatest men of the nineteenth century. In 1846, Thomas Henry Huxley was appointed an assistant doctor aboard HMS Rattlesnake. The ship had been asked to survey areas of the Great Barrier Reef and the neighboring seas. This gave Thomas Henry Huxley an opportunity to study animal life and was the start of his biological career. The voyage lasted four years, during which time he gathered much information on plankton(浮游生物).
On his return from the voyage, Thomas Henry Huxley was made a member of the Royal Society in recognition of his scientific work. Although he continued to publish papers about plankton, his interest was turning towards vertebrates(脊椎动物). For some time Thomas Henry Huxley and his workmates had been discussing the possibility that animal species had evolved(进化), one from another. No satisfactory theories had been put forward, but in 1859 Darwin's The Origin of Species appeared. Thomas Henry Huxley at once realized its importance and how the theory of natural selection provided the working hypothesis(假说) we sought.
For the rest of his life Thomas Henry Huxley struggled to ensure the full recognition of Darwin's work. In 1863, Thomas Henry Huxley published Man's Place in Nature, in which he compared man and great apes(类人猿). He clearly showed similarities.
Despite his many achievements, he was given no awards by the British state until late in his life. From about 1870, Thomas Henry Huxley was too involved in other things to continue actual research. He had always been interested in education. He pioneered the teaching of biology and his method of selecting “type animals” is still followed today. He spent the last ten years of his life writing essays mainly on biology.

C.He became a good novelist late in his life.

What Is a Boy
Between the innocence of babyhood and the seriousness of manhood we find a delightful creature called a “boy”. Boys come in different sizes, weights, and colors, but all boys have the same belief: to enjoy every second of every minute of every hour of every day and to fill the air with noise until the adult males send them off to bed at night.
Boys are found everywhere—on top of, under, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around, or jumping to. Mothers spoil them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers love them, and God protects them. A boy is TRUTH with dirt on his face, BEAUTY with a cut on his finger, WISDOM with chocolate in his hair, and the HOPE of the future with a snake in his pocket.
When you are busy, a boy is a trouble-maker and a noise. When you want him to make a good impression, his brain turns to jelly or else he becomes a wild creature destroying the world and himself with it.
A boy is a mixture—he has the stomach of a horse, the digestion of stones and sand, the energy of an atomic bomb, the curiosity of a cat, the imagination of a superman, the shyness of a sweet girl, the brave nature of a bull, the violence of a firecracker (鞭炮), but when you ask him to make something, he has five thumbs on each hand.
He likes ice cream, knives, saws, Christmas, comic books, woods, water (in its natural habitat), large animals, Dad, trains, Saturday mornings, and fire engines. He is not much for Sunday schools, company, schools, books without pictures, music lessons, neckties, barbers, girls, overcoats, adults, or bedtime.
Nobody else is so early to rise, or so late to have supper. Nobody else gets so much fun out of trees, dogs, and breezes. Nobody else can put into one pocket a rusty knife, a half-eaten apple, a three-foot rope, six cents and some unknown things.
A boy is a magical creature—he is your headache but when you come home at night with only destroyed pieces of your hopes and dreams, he can mend them like new with two magic words, “Hi, Dad!”

If you see humour as a form of entertainment, you're missing some of its biggest benefits: Humour makes average-looking people look cute and uninteresting people entertaining. 36 Best of all, humour raises your energy, and that can have an effect on everything you do at school, at work, or in your personal life. The increase of energy will even make you more willing to exercise, and that will raise your overall energy even more.
37 Humour lets you better understand life and sometimes helps you laugh at even the worst of your problems. So it will be useful to include some humour tips for everyday life.
You don't have to be the joke teller in the group in order to show your sense of humour. You can be the one who directs the conversation of fun topics that are ripe for others to add humour. Every party needs a straight person. 38
When it comes to in-person humour, effort counts a lot. When people see you trying to be funny, it frees them to try it themselves. 39 People need permission to be funny social settings because there's always a risk that comes with humour. For in-person humour, quality isn't as important as you might think. Your attitude and effort count a lot.
Some people—and I was one of them—believe that humorous complaints about the little problems of life make humor, and sometimes that is the case. 40 One funny observation about a problem in your life can be funny, but five is just complaining, no matter how smart you think you are. Funny complaints can wear people out.
A.You'll appear fun and funny by association.
B.But not all senses of humour are created equal.
C.Humour also transports your mind away from your daily troubles.
D.Studies show that a good sense of humour even makes you seem smarter.
E.The problem comes when you start doing too much complaint-based humour.
F.You have to be at least a bit self-assured to laugh at yourself in front of others.
G.So even if your efforts at humour fail, you might free the hidden humour in others.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Humour has been an essential part of human behaviour and can not only entertain but also throw new light 56 sensitive or emotive issues. Mark Twain is remembered for his ability 57 (combine) humour with more serious messages. Twain's particular style of writing is 58 (fun) and often mischievous. For example, in his classic novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, he famously says, “Writing is easy. 59 you have to do is cross out the wrong words.”
Lin, 60 became famous for his unique brand of humour, brought the concept of humour to modern Chinese literature. In 1924, he 61 (creative) borrowed “youmo” from Ancient Chinese as the translation of the English word “humour”. “Youmo” is still 62 (use) in this way today.
Humour isn't just about laughter, 63 is a way of life and a tool that can be used to illuminate the world. Lin even created an equation to explain this concept: Reality+Dreams+Humour=Wisdom. Living and working with others can sometimes be complicated, and humour makes this 64 (easy). 65 (share) jokes and laughing together can bring individuals and even communities together. Mark Twain says, “Humour is mankind's greatest blessing”.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There are a number of volunteer organizations out there that deal with things like clothing donation and the sale of used books. Retired schoolteacher Cathy has been a member of such an organization, VNSA, since 2012. Her duties involve working throughout the year to help prepare the books for their February sale and acting as personnel manager for the sale. That means she helps coordinate(协调) all the other volunteers who help out before, during, and after the event.
It was before the 2019 book sale that Cathy once again found herself sitting among a towering pile of books and sorting through them to ensure that they would be in good enough condition to resell. As she was sorting through them, she came upon a book, wrinkled and broken. Though she didn't like doing it, the only remaining choice for her was to throw it away.
A greedy book lover herself, Cathy felt guilty about throwing away any book. Before she threw it away, she decided to check it for more serious damage inside that might justify her giving it up. She opened the cover and went through the pages and then she noticed something unusual.
Going through the pages, Cathy was surprised to see that a part had been hollowed out(挖空) inside the book. Obviously, something was hidden in that rather expertly hollowed space. She looked down and saw that the book's previous owner had hidden four packages in the space, each containing ten $100 bills. Cathy's first thought was that the bills were toy money that perhaps a kid had hidden inside as part of some childish game or something.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
But Cathy soon realized that these were real$100 bills.

Luckily for Cathy, the book also contained the name of the book owner

第一节
One possible version:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you about humour.
A sense of humour is considered to be one of the most important human qualities that improve our life in different ways. Firstly, at school, a humorous teacher can help students focus their attention very easily, and students will become more active and creative when experiencing the joy of learning. Secondly, humor has a positive effect on our health. It's said that laughter is the best medicine. Thirdly, humour helps us remove stress and have a positive attitude towards study and life. Finally, I believe humour can be a powerful and delightful way to establish close friendships with people.
Thanks!
第二节
One possible version:
But Cathy soon realized that these were real$100 bills. Whoever had owned the book had chosen to hide $ 4,000 inside the book. Cathy's second thought upon seeing the money was that this was sufficient to do charity. She didn't bother considering keeping the money herself. It just didn't feel right to keep it for any reason. Regardless of how much good she thought she might be able to do with the money, Cathy decided that the only realistic choice left to her was to return it to its owner.
Luckily for Cathy, the book also contained the name of the book owner.Using this name, Cathy might be able to find its rightful owner. Still, it would take a little digging. Thankfully, the book's previous owner happened to have a pretty unusual last name. This made Cathy's Internet search much easier. After only about ten minutes online, Cathy found it. The money belonged to a man. So thankful was he for Cathy's honesty that he actually ended up donating a generous amount to VNSA to show his gratitude.
