Many years ago, there was no light at night. How did they find the place
People could look at the stars to find their way. Because the North Star and the Big Dipper appear in the north(北 方 ). In the daytime, when the weather was clear, people could look at the sun to judge(判断) the direction(方向). The sun comes up in the east(东方)and goes down in the west(西方).

Later, people could make maps. They travelled in a place and took notes. Then they drew a map. Sometimes, people went to other cities. In those days there were no planes or trains. So they went by boat or ship. A compass could help them find the right direction at sea.
Now, when people walk or drive on the road, they can use the BDS. It's very helpful.

old, but he had never (从来没有) used a writing instrument (书写工具). One day he asked his father for writing instruments. His father was surprised and borrowed (借) them from a neighbor (邻居) . He wrote a wonderful poem and his father was very happy.
