A
Originally a medieval fortress and kings’ homes on the right bank of the Seine, the Louvre Museum has many famous pieces on permanent display.
Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo da Vinci, has been on display at the Louvre Museum since 1797. More than six million people visit the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa each year. The fame is almost entirely the result of a robbery that took place in 1911, when the Mona Lisa was taken from the Louvre by an Italian patriot. The thief was caught trying to sell the painting to the Uffizi Museum in Florence, and the Mona Lisa was returned to Paris in early 1914.
Winged Victory of Samothrace
Representing the Greek goddess of victory, Nike was found in hundreds of different pieces in 1863 on the Greek island of Samothrace before she was brought to the Louvre Museum. She was positioned as the sole figure on top of a staircase in the museum in 1863 where she has remained ever since. The athletic wear company of the same name used the goddess of victory as inspiration for the brand, and the Nike logo is taken from the shape of the top of her wings.
Venus de Milo
Discovered in 1820 on the Greek island of Milo, the Venus de Milo was gifted to King Louis XⅧ, who donated it to the Louvre collection. Venus de Milo is thought to represent the Greek goddess Aphrodite, though her identity has never been proven. She is positioned to appear as if she is looking across the other Roman depictions of Venus that appear in the same hall at the Louvre Museum.
Liberty Leading the People
Painted by Eugene Delacroix, this work depicts a woman, a symbol of the French Revolution known as Marianne, holding the tricolor revolutionary French flag that would later become the official flag of France, while standing above the bodies of fallen men. Delacroix created the painting to commemorate the July Revolution, which toppled King Charles X of France. In 1874, it was acquired by the Louvre Museum.
1. What do we know about the painting Mona Lisa in the Louvre Museum
A It has attracted a total of six million people to the museum.
B. It was so famous as to almost fuel a crime in 1911.
C. It was once displayed in the Uffizi Museum in Florence.
D. It was not kept in the Louvre Museum for several years.
2. Which of the following pieces is set in France
A. Mona Lisa. B. Winged Victory of Samothrace.
C. Venus de Milo. D. Liberty Leading the People.
3. What do the “Winged Victory of Samothrace” and “Venus de Milo” have in common
A. Both of them are connected with Greek beliefs.
B. Both of them inspired athletic wear designers.
C. Both of them were positioned as sole figures.
D. Both of them were gifts to French kings.

Mona Lisa“The fame is almost entirely the result of a robbery that took place in 1911, when the Mona Lisa was taken from the Louvre by an Italian patriot. The thief was caught trying to sell the painting to the Uffizi Museum in Florence, and the Mona Lisa was returned to Paris in early 1914.”(蒙娜丽莎的成名几乎完全是因为1911年发生的一起抢劫案,当时一名意大利爱国者从卢浮宫偷走了《蒙娜丽莎》。
Liberty Leading the People“Painted by Eugene Delacroix, this work depicts a woman, a symbol of the French Revolution known as Marianne, holding the tricolor revolutionary French flag that would later become the official flag of France, while standing above the bodies of fallen men. Delacroix created the painting to commemorate the July Revolution, which toppled King Charles X of France. In 1874, it was acquired by the Louvre Museum.”(这幅作品由尤金·德拉克洛瓦创作,描绘了一个被称为玛丽安的法国革命的象征,她举着后来成为法国官方旗帜的法国革命三色旗,站在倒下的男人的尸体上方。
Winged Victory of Samothrace“Representing the Greek goddess of victory, Nike was found in hundreds of different pieces in 1863 on the Greek island of Samothrace before she was brought to the Louvre Museum. ”(Nike是希腊胜利女神的象征,1863年,人们在希腊的萨摩色雷斯岛(Samothrace)发现了它的数百件不同的作品,之后它被带到卢浮宫博物馆。)以及Venus de Milo“Discovered in 1820 on the Greek island of Milo, the Venus de Milo was gifted to King Louis XⅧ, who donated it to the Louvre collection. Venus de Milo is thought to represent the Greek goddess Aphrodite, though her identity has never been proven.”(《米洛的维纳斯》于1820年在希腊米洛岛被发现,被赠予国王路易十世Ⅷ,后者将其捐赠给卢浮宫收藏。 故选A。
B
In 1975, a San Diego homemaker named Marjorie Rice came across a column in Scientific American about tiling (瓷砖). There is a problem which has interested mathematicians since ancient Greek times. After Rice’s chance encounter with tiling, family members often saw her in the kitchen constantly drawing shapes. “I thought she was just drawing casually (随意),” her daughter Kathy said. But Rice who took only one year of math in high school, was actually discovering never-before-seen patterns.
Born in Florida, she loved learning and particularly her brief exposure to math, but tight budget and social culture prevented her family from even considering that she might attend college. “For Rice, math was a pleasure,” her son David once said.
Rice gave one of her sons a subscription to Scientific American partly because she could read it carefully while the children were at school. When she read Gardner’s column about tiling as she later recalled in an interview: “I thought it must be wonderful that someone could discover these beautiful patterns which no one had seen before.” She also wrote in an essay, “My interest was engaged by the subject and I wanted to understand every detail of it. Lacking a mathematical background, I developed my own symbol system and in a few months discovered a new type.”
Astonished and delighted, she sent her work to Gardner, who sent it to Doris, a tiling expert at Moravian College. Doris confirmed that Rice’s finding was correct.
Later, Rice declined to lecture on her discoveries, citing shyness, but at Doris’s invitation, she attended a university mathematics meeting, where she was introduced to the audience. Rice still said nothing of her achievements to her children, but they eventually found out as the awards mounted.
4. Why did Rice often draw shapes in the kitchen
A. To become a mathematician. B. To explore the secret of tiling.
C. To fill her leisure time. D. To show her passion for drawing.
5 What can we learn about Rice from Paragraphs 2 and 3
A. She longed to start a column. B. She was rejected from a college.
C. She was good at designing patterns. D. She succeeded in developing a system.
6. What is the text mainly about
A. The magic of math. B. The efforts of Rice.
C. The humility of Rice. D. The patterns of tiling.
7. What can we learn from the Rice’s experience
A. Nothing is impossible to a willing mind. B. Actions speak louder than words.
C. Every cloud has a silver lining. D. Practice makes perfect.
B 5. D 6. B 7. A

由第一段中“After Rice’s chance encounter with tiling, family members often saw her in the kitchen constantly drawing shapes. (Rice偶然接触瓷砖后,家人经常看到她在厨房里不停地画形状)”和第三段中“She also wrote in an essay, “My interest was engaged by the subject and I wanted to understand every detail of it. (她还在一篇文章中写道,“我对这个主题很感兴趣,我想了解它的每一个细节)”可知,Rice对瓷砖这个主题很感兴趣,想了解它的每一个细节,可得出因为想探索瓷砖的秘密,所以Rice经常在厨房里画形状。故选B项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。由第三段中“Lacking a mathematical background, I developed my own symbol system and in a few months discovered a new type.
(Nothing is impossible to a willing mind.)”。故选A项。
C
“Anxiety.” The very word invites discomfort. Its effects—shortness of breath, pounding heart, muscle tension—are outright upsetting. But, as a clinician, I find that we tend to miss out on many valuable opportunities presented by this human emotion. In and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a disease. Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.
We all know working out at the gym is hard. By nature, a “good workout” is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do. The sweet spot of exercise is always a somewhat challenging experience. Similarly, if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension. For example, one effective treatment for fear is exposure therapy (疗法), which involves gradually encountering things that make one anxious, reducing fear over time.
Humans are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g., “I’m having a hard time right now and could really use your support”), it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.
From time to time, we find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up, our resources break down, and we feel uncomfortably anxious—what we’re experiencing is called stress. Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales (天平) going out of balance. Focusing on work and pretending everything is OK only leads to disastrous results. Medical treatment for stress may function for a while, but it tends to make things worse in the long run. The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.
8. What does the author say about anxiety
A. It is an invitation to diseases.
B. It indicates stable mental health.
C. It costs us many valuable chances.
D. It is a natural emotional expression.
9. Why does the author mention “good workout” in paragraph 2
A. To prove how exercise influences emotions.
B To suggest an effective way to challenge limits.
C. To explain how anxiety builds emotional strength.
D. To show a positive connection between mind and body.
10. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The key to closeness is partners’ support.
B. Sharing anxieties improves relationships.
C. Humans are defined by their social nature.
D. Expressing feelings keeps us off anxieties.
11. According to the last paragraph, how can we deal with stress
A. Devote more energy to our work.
B. Increase resources available to us.
C. Seek professional medical treatment.
D. Master advanced mathematical skills.
D 9. C 10. B 11. B
根据第一段中的“Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.(恰恰相反:它是大脑和感官健康的指标。一旦我们接受这是生活中正常的一部分,尽管不舒服,我们就可以用它来帮助我们。)”可知,焦虑是一种正常的情感表露。故选D。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“By nature, a ‘good workout’ is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do.(从本质上讲,‘好的锻炼’是不舒服的,因为它涉及到将我们的体力推过我们可以轻松完成的事情。)”和“Similarly, if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension.(同样,如果你想在情感上更坚强,你需要面对一些紧张。)”
根据第三段“Humans are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g., ‘I’m having a hard time right now and could really use your support’), it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.(人类是社会生物。当我的病人学会向他们的伴侣敞开心扉表达他们的焦虑时,他们几乎总是报告说有更大的情感亲密感。此外,正如国际关系专家Sue Johnson所教导的那样,当我们在充满挑战的时刻表达我们对联系的需求时(例如,‘我现在很难过,真的需要你的支持’),这会产生更大的联系,并将我们的焦虑转化为爱。)”可推出,本段主要讲述了分享焦虑有助于改善人际关系。故选B。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales (天平) going out of balance.(简单地说,对我们的要求超过了我们现有的资源,就像一组天平失去平衡一样。)”和“The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.(处理压力的唯一解决方案是通过数学来平衡天平。)”
D
Users of Google Gemini, the tech giant’s artificial-intelligence model, recently noticed that asking it to create images of Vikings, or German soldiers from 1943 produced surprising results: hardly any of the people depicted were white. Other image-generation tools have been criticized because they tend to show white men when asked for images of entrepreneurs or doctors. Google wanted Gemini to avoid this trap; instead, it fell into another one, depicting George Washington as black. Now attention has moved on to the chatbot’s text responses, which turned out to be just as surprising.
Gemini happily provided arguments in favor of positive action in higher education, but refused to provide arguments against. It declined to write a job ad for a fossil-fuel lobby group (游说团体), because fossil fuels are bad and lobby groups prioritize “the interests of corporations over public well-being”. Asked if Hamas is a terrorist organization, it replied that the conflict in Gaza is “complex”; asked if Elon Musk’s tweeting of memes had done more harm than Hitler, it said it was “difficult to say”. You do not have to be a critic to perceive its progressive bias.
Inadequate testing may be partly to blame. Google lags behind OpenAI, maker of the better-known ChatGPT. As it races to catch up, Google may have cut corners. Other chatbots have also had controversial launches. Releasing chatbots and letting users uncover odd behaviors, which can be swiftly addressed, lets firms move faster, provided they are prepared to weather (经受住) the potential risks and bad publicity, observes Eth an Mollick, a professor at Wharton Business School.
But Gemini has clearly been deliberately adjusted, or “fine-tuned”, to produce these responses. This raises questions about Google’s culture. Is the firm so financially secure, with vast profits from internet advertising, that it feels free to try its hand at social engineering Do some employees think it has not just an opportunity, but a responsibility, to use its reach and power to promote a particular agenda All eyes are now on Google’s boss, Sundar Pichai. He says Gemini is being fixed. But does Google need fixing too
12. What do the words “this trap” underlined in the first paragraph refer to
A. Having a racial bias. B. Responding to wrong texts.
C. Criticizing political figures. D. Going against historical facts.
13. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Gemini’s refusal to make progress. B. Gemini’s failure to give definite answers.
C. Gemini’s prejudice in text responses. D. Gemini’s avoidance of political conflicts.
14. What does Eth an Mollick think of Gemini’s early launch
A. Creative. B. Promising. C. Illegal. D. Controversial.
15. What can we infer about Google from the last paragraph
A. Its security is doubted. B. It lacks financial support.
C. It needs further improvement. D. Its employees are irresponsible.
A 13. C 14. D 15. C
根据划线单词上文“Users of Google Gemini, the tech giant’s artificial-intelligence model, recently noticed that asking it to create images of Vikings, or German soldiers from 1943 produced surprising results: hardly any of the people depicted were white. Other image-generation tools have been criticized because they tend to show white men when asked for images of entrepreneurs or doctors.(科技巨头谷歌的人工智能模型Google Gemini的用户最近注意到,让它创建维京人或1943年的德国士兵的图像产生了令人惊讶的结果:几乎没有一个被描绘的人是白人。其他图像生成工具也受到了批评,因为当被要求提供企业家或医生的图像时,它们往往会显示白人男性。)”可推测,“this trap”指的是前面提到的其他图像生成工具在生成图像时存在的种族偏见问题。而谷歌的 Gemini想要摆脱这种陷阱,却又掉入了另一个——把乔治.华盛顿描绘成黑人。故选A。
根据文章第二段“Gemini happily provided arguments in favor of positive action in higher education, but refused to provide arguments against. You do not have to be a critic to perceive its progressive bias.( Gemini乐于提供支持高等教育的积极行动的论据,但拒绝提供反对的论据。
根据文章第三段“Google lags behind OpenAI, maker of the better-known ChatGPT. As it races to catch up, Google may have cut corners. Other chatbots have also had controversial launches. Releasing chatbots and letting users uncover odd behaviors, which can be swiftly addressed, lets firms move faster, provided they are prepared to weather (经受住) the potential risks and bad publicity, observes Eth an Mollick, a professor at Wharton Business School.(在奋力追赶的过程中,谷歌可能走了捷径。
根据文章最后一段“But Gemini has clearly been deliberately adjusted, or “fine-tuned”, to produce these responses.

F. Just like many people get stage fright before delivering a speech, this nervous energy can help to motivate.
G. Some people also experience physical symptoms such as sweaty palms or a racing heart.
D 17. G 18. C 19. A 20. F
前文“Do you get nervous thinking about geometry, equations or a coming math test If yes, you are far from alone. (你是否在思考几何、方程式或即将到来的数学考试时感到紧张?如果是,你并不孤单)”引出对数学感到焦虑这一话题。因此D项“Math anxiety has become a common psychological condition among students around the world. (数学焦虑已经成为世界各地学生普遍存在的一种心理状况)”符合语境,说明数学焦虑是普遍的心理,承接前文,其中的common和前文的far from alone呼应。故选D。
【17题详解】
前文“According to a University of Cambridge study, in ordinary life, many people experience some degree of discomfort when faced with a math problem, ranging from mild tension to strong fear. (根据剑桥大学的一项研究,在日常生活中,许多人在面对数学问题时会感到某种程度的不适,从轻微的紧张到强烈的恐惧)”描述人们对数学感到焦虑的心理状况。因此G项“Some people also experience physical symptoms such as sweaty palms or a racing heart. (有些人还会出现身体症状,比如手心出汗或心跳加速)”符合语境,描述焦虑下表现出的身体症状,承接前文。故选G。
【18题详解】
前文“Comfort comes from the fact that those with math anxiety are not necessarily to be bad at math. (安慰来自这样一个事实:有数学焦虑的人并不一定数学不好)”指出数学焦虑和在数学上的实际表现并没有必然联系。因此C项“If a child has math anxiety, don’t assume that they’re not good at math. (如果一个孩子有数学焦虑,不要认为他们数学不好)”符合语境,提醒不要认为有数学焦虑的孩子数学不好,承接前文。故选C。
【19题详解】

“This Saturday, we’ll be visiting cats at the animal shelter. If you’d like to join us, here’s an application form”, said Ms. Delgado, the school librarian who had held the reading engagement event for students.
Ben loved cats and he had always wanted one, so he hurried to take an application form. Then Ms. Delgado added, “We’ll be reading to the cats and award readers who make most progress.” Ben stopped. Reading al oud can be a challenging task. Ben might feel his heart racing, his palms sweating, and his voice shaking as he read. He might stumble over words or lose his place in the text. He might feel like everyone was watching him and judging him. Still, he really wanted to visit the cats, so he took an application form anyway.
On Saturday, Ben arrived at the shelter with some of his classmates. “This is Max,” the shelter worker told Ben as she handed him a gray cat. Ben carried Max to a beanbag chair and sat down. Max settled onto his lap. He took a book he’d been working on and started reading. Max, very different from other cats walking around the room while the kids read, purred (发出呼噜声) on his lap as if he had understood what Ben read.
“I’m glad Max is staying and listening to my reading and he is the best cat ever,” Ben told Dad excitedly. “I’m glad you two are friends,” Dad said. All week, Ben’s heart was filled with anxiety as he waited for Saturday to arrive. He was eager to read to Max and the anticipation of spending time with his feline (猫咪的) friend made him restless and nervous. When it arrived, Ben got to read to Max again.
“What if someone adopts Max ” Ben asked Dad later. “I guess you’d read to a different cat,” Dad said. “But I don’t want a different cat. I wish we could adopt Max,” Ben said to Dad. He knew they couldn’t because Mom had allergies (过敏). Ben loved the cat so much that he even told his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Patel, about Max. “Max sounds like a special cat,” said Mrs. Patel.

Week by week, Ben realized that reading seemed easier with Max’s company. The presence of the gray cat made him feel more relaxed and comfortable. He noticed that Max’s purring had a calming effect on him, allowing him to focus better on the words in front of him. Ben was amazed by how much he enjoyed reading aloud to Max. Still, he was surprised when Ms. Delgado gave him the Most Improved Reader award. Ben felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as he held the certificate in his hands. He couldn’t wait to show it to Max.
But on Saturday, Ben couldn’t find Max at the shelter. He looked around the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of his feline friend. However, Max was nowhere to be found. Ben’s heart sank as he realized that someone might have adopted Max. Just then, Mrs. Patel walked into the visitors’ room, carrying Max. “I’m adopting him,” Mrs. Patel said. “You can come over every day to read to him.” Hearing what Mrs. Patel said, Ben jumped with excitement and threw his arms around Mrs. Patel. Of course, he didn’t forget to hug Max tightly who gave a contented purr.

Discovered in 1820 on the Greek island of Milo the Venus de Milo was gifted to King Louis XⅧ, who donated it to the Louvre collection.

B. To suggest an effective way to challenge limits.

“This Saturday, we’ll be visiting cats at the animal shelter. If you’d like to join us, here’s an application form”, said Ms. Delgado, the school librarian who had held the reading engagement event for students.
Ben loved cats and he had always wanted one so he hurried to take an application form.
Patel.
