2024年中考英语二轮复习专题-阅读理解(说明文)(湖南专用)
(2024·湖南常德·一模)What does this “thing” look like to you Is it a snail (蜗牛) Or is it a car Actually, it is my design for the car of the future—a snail car.
The snail car doesn’t look like any of the cars that we see every day. If anything, this car is the opposite of today’s cars. For example, today’s cars are noisy and dirty, while this one is silent and clean; today’s cars have wheels, but this one does not; traditional cars use petrol (汽油) while this car will use clean energy.
One more important point about the snail car is that it is easy to drive. In fact, you don’t have to worry about driving because it can take you wherever you want to go when you say it. Let’s say you need to take a shopping trip to a supermarket. All you have to do is to give an instruction to the car, like “Take me to the supermarket”, and the snail car will follow your instruction and take care of your trip. And the chances are that it will take you there even faster than you think.
A lot of the technology required for my snail car already exists (存在), although some may be experimental (试验性的). Today, scientists are developing new materials for the surface of roads. Fifty years from now, perhaps sooner, some new roads will store solar energy (太阳能) under the road, and the snail car will be able to use it.
However, you probably won’t see a car like this on the roads anytime soon, even if you’re under 20 today. This, perhaps, is the car of the year 2100, and the car that your grandchildren or their children will probably drive.
1.How does the writer show that the snail car is the opposite of today’s cars
A.By telling stories. B.By listing numbers. C.By giving examples.
2.We can learn from Paragraph 3 that the snail car is ________.
A.clean B.smart C.quiet
3.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.Solar energy. B.Clean energy. C.The surface of roads.
4.What will the writer probably talk about in the following paragraph
A.What the snail car will look like in 2024.
B.Why the snail car will be popular among children.
C.What the world will be like when the snail car is widely used.

(2024·湖南衡阳·一模)One day, two teenagers met on the way to college. One had some records under his arm. They began talking about music. Later, at a club, a guitarist asked them to join his band. They found a place to practise, and started playing and attracting fans. Then they made an album (专辑). In five years, they became very famous.
This is the story of the British rock band—the Rolling Stones, but it’s also the story of many other bands. Music-making has always been a popular activity in the UK. Musical cities
Groups are proud of where they come from. Cities often have a special sound or style. Liverpool in the 1960s had the Cavern Club, where many groups played. The famous band Beatles finished their first show in this club. Manchester created its own place in the 1980s at the Hacienda Club.
Innovation (创新)
Several musical styles started in the UK. Punk (朋克摇滚乐) gave people the idea that anyone could start a band—musical ability wasn’t important.
Places to play, places to listen
There are many places for live music shows in the UK. Brixton Academy is an old-style concert hall. King Tut’s in Glasgow only has room for 300 people. But there are also many big places with modern seating and sound effects.
Music festivals
In summer, the best places for live music are festivals. Glastonbury Festival is one of the oldest music festivals and it started in 1970. It attracts big stars for five days every June. There are plenty of free events too, like the Strawberry Fair in Cambridge, which welcomes families.

Snow forests make up about 30% of the world’s total forest areas. These wonderful woodlands are not as
famous as the Amazon or other rain forests, but they are important. To mark the International Day of Forests, we report on why they are so important for Earth’s health and why they are in danger.
Also known as northern or taiga (针叶林) forests, snow forests are found in the far north of the world, in areas that are quite cold and usually have a lot of snowfall. They lie across parts of Canada, China, Finland, Japan, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the US. Snow forests spread for thousands of miles and cover about 17% of the Earth’s total land area.
Snow forests have very cold winters that can last up to six months, but even so, they are home to all kinds of animals. In the US and Canada, as many as 5 billion (十亿) birds from more than 300 species (物种) live in the forests in the breeding (繁殖) season.
Snow forests are facing several challenges (挑战). Trees are being cut down faster and faster for their wood, which can be used for building. Some forests are being cleared to make space for new roads and houses. All these endanger the homes of wildlife.
In more southern snow forest areas, 1% of the land is being cleared of trees each year. Environmental and wildlife groups around the world are working hard to make snow forests protected areas. This means that cutting down trees is stopped or controlled in some areas. When wood is needed, replanting plans and careful forest management help to reduce (减少) the bad influence. Hopefully this means that the forest is managed in a way that it can live.
57.Where do snow forests lie
A.In the wildlife areas.
B.In the far southern areas.
C.In the quite cold areas.
58.What makes the wildlife in snow forest face challenges
A.Cleaner roads and houses.
B.Fewer trees and less wood.
C.More homes for other animals.
59.What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph
A.The snow forests are likely to be managed to live longer.
B.It is impossible for wildlife groups to protect the snow forest areas.
C.More land will be cleared of trees in all the southern snow forest areas.

The earthquake, which happened in Türkiye near its border (边界) with Syria, was the strongest earthquake to hit Türkiye in over 80 years. It was strong enough to be felt in other countries. The earthquake had a magnitude (震级) of 7.8. Since then, the area has been hit by over 130 aftershocks (余震).

Imagine taking a flying taxi to the airport, or jumping over crowded city streets at rush hour, getting where you want to go far faster than you could in a car. Believe it or not, you might be able to do these things in an air taxi sooner than you think.
An air taxi is something like a helicopter (直升机) that can carry people from place to place. And it can go straight up and down without a long runway.
An American company called Joby Aviation has started testing their new air taxi. This is the first time they’ve tested a taxi that’s been built in a factory. Before that, all their taxis were made by hand. By 2025, Joby hopes to start carrying passengers for money. They’ve teamed up with Delta Air Lines to create a program to fly people from their homes to the airport. Besides the pilot, Joby’s air taxis can carry four other passengers. They can go around 100 miles before the electric batteries (电池) need to be recharged.
Compared with helicopters, Joby says their air taxis are both quieter and cheaper. Users need to pay about $3 a mile at first. But over time, the price was brought down to less than $1 a mile.
Although the idea of flying taxis is exciting, some people are still concerned about them. The air taxis may be quieter than helicopters, but they’ll still be adding noise and traffic to our skies. Some people worry that only rich people will be able to afford to use them.
It seems likely that air taxis will be part of the future travel. But there’s still a lot to do before air taxis become common.

This is not the first time that animals have been harmed because of animal entertainment-related (与娱乐相关的) sports. For example, about 180,000 bulls (公牛) are killed in bullfights around the world, with many more injured in bullfight events every year, according to Human Society International, a company researching the human-animal relationship. “Hunters shoot more than 800 lions in South Africa,” reported World Animal Protection.

Some things seem perfect together: Milk and bread. Summer and watermelon. And... dogs and petting (抚摸), right Maybe it’s not all right. We learnt something new when we recently chatted with Dr. Emily Levine, a scientist who studies animals and the owner of Animal Behavior hospital of New Jersey.
“Many dogs really don’t find being petted, hugged or kissed very nice — they just don’t enjoy it very much,” she told us. “There are some dogs that love jumping and running when they haven’t seen you in a while, because they’re so excited to see you. Some dogs may hide how they really feel about it. But when you really watch a dog’s body language when they’re hanging out and doing their own thing, most of them are just standing being petted, some of them get so angry that they start to shout and say ‘Hey, please, back off! I’m really not enjoying this.’”
Of course lots of furry animals do seem to enjoy being hugged, but if we hug a dog who doesn’t seem very like it, what should we do “That clearly makes them worried or they’re showing their angry,” Dr. Levine said. “We should pay attention to the early signs.”
Dr. Levine noted that hugging can make dogs feel difficult to breathe, so she suggested, “You can pet the cheek (脸颊) and the chin (下巴), try not to go along down the back, but you can keep it for a short while,” she said. “It’s a relationship we have with our dogs.” Dr. Levine advised that our best choice to find out its need is to look at their body language.

For many of us, these wishes feel familiar (熟悉的). Around this January, we made the same resolutions. We started with strong willpower (意志力). But a few weeks later, we became lazy again. When the alarm went off in the morning, we pressed the snooze button once, twice, then three times. Our beds were so warm and comfortable that we just didn’t want to get out. Running It was out of the question.
Will we give up on our New Year’s resolutions again How can we prevent that
Jay Van Bavel and Dominic Packer are two psychology professors (心理学教授). They advise us to form “resolution groups.” Van Bavel and Packer make New Year’s resolutions every year. Like many of us, they usually fail to keep them, but they have one exception. A few years ago, they decided to write a book together. After they made the decision, they started to have weekly meetings. Every weekend, they met in coffee shops to write together and discuss their writings. They wrote their plans in a shared document (文档) and read them out loud at each meeting. “When we know our friends are expecting us to keep our resolutions, we try our best to keep them, even if it’s hard,” Packer says.
After making New Year’s resolutions, why don’t you join a group You could start a running group with friends, or a reading club with your classmates. Being part of a group will help you make real progress.

Are you looking forward to the next Olympic Games Paris 2024 promises to be a “green” event. Its organizers have found a new way of going green: In some of the venues (场馆) in Seine-Saint-Denis (塞纳-圣但尼省), about 11,000 seats are made from recycled plastic.
The seats were produced by recycling company Lemon Tri and a few partners. They collected plastic waste and turned it into small pieces. These pieces were then mixed together and heated. After that they were pressed in machines. The result was black or white plastic pieces with flecks (斑点) of color. These pieces were then polished, cut and made into seats.

chairs and enjoy the excitement of the game!
The seats were made from about 100 tons of plastic waste. About 80 percent of the plastic came from local recycling bins. Local schools also collected about five million colored soda bottle caps and they were used in the making of the seats.
The seats not only help the environment, but also educate people about recycling. Augustin Jaclin is the co-founder of Lemon Tri. “Our kids put their bottles in the bins,” he said. “They’ll sit on the seats made from these bottles. This will teach them to recycle more in their daily lives!”

4.What will the writer probably talk about in the following paragraph
A.What the snail car will look like in 2024.
B.Why the snail car will be popular among children.
C.What the world will be like when the snail car is widely used.

(2024·湖南邵阳·一模)Fraser Island is in Queensland, Australia. It is about 120 kilometers long and 24 kilometers wide. It is the largest sand island in the world. There is no airport on the island, but there is a long beach along the east coast (海岸). Planes arrive and leave from there.
The sand makes unusual shapes. There are hills made of sand called sand dunes (沙丘). Nothing grows on them. They move one or two meters a year from the northwest towards the southeast of the island. There are some beautiful places on the island, such as Rainbow Gorge and Red Canyon.
Fraser Island is the home of several plants and animals. There are beautiful flowers and different kinds of trees. There are also many birds like cockatoos. About 500, 000 people visit the island every year to see the island’s beauty. People enjoy camping and hiking there. Unluckily, the visitors damage (损坏) plants and frighten animals. They make water dirty, which makes them unable to grow well. So it is necessary to manage the visitors. For example, people can’t use motor boats or go fishing in the lakes unless they have official (官方的) papers.

Snow forests make up about 30% of the world’s total forest areas. These wonderful woodlands are not as famous as the Amazon or other rain forests, but they are important.
60.Where is the passage probably taken from
A.A guide book. B.An art magazine. C.A news report.

On an early Monday morning in February, 2023, a strong earthquake hit southern Türkiye and northern Syria. The earthquake destroyed (摧毁) thousands of buildings. Over 3,700 people lost their lives.
Thousands of rescue (救援) workers tried their best to find and save people in the earthquake. Türkiye said it sent out more than 9,600 rescue workers. Many countries have also sent teams of rescue workers to the area to help out. China’s rescue teams arrived in Türkiye on Wednesday. The leaders of over 40 different countries had offered help.
But rescue workers faced many difficulties. The earthquake and its aftershocks destroyed many roads. The government had to ask people to keep the roads clear for rescue workers.
The weather also caused some problems. Before the earthquake, the area was experiencing a heavy snowstorm. Snow and rain made rescue work more difficult.
In northwest Syria, things were even worse. At least four hospitals in the area were destroyed by the earthquake.
Many of the people there lived in tents (帐篷) or in special camps for people who lost their homes in the war. More than half of the 4.6 million (百万) people who lived in the area had trouble getting enough food.

They can go
around 100 miles before the electric batteries (电池) need to be recharged.
65.How does the writer begin the passage
A.By raising questions. B.By imagining scenes. C.By explaining reasons.

As a kind of popular dance of the Dai people in Yunnan Province, the elephant foot drum dance is based on the Dai martial arts (武术) and mainly performed by males (男性). A traditional musical instrument called the elephant foot drum is played in the dance. This dance was first used to welcome the new year. Now it is a way for the Dai people to show their joy as well as their village culture. It also shows that the Dai people are friendly.
Xie Wenping, an experienced drum maker, said that making an elephant-foot drum is not easy and it takes about 30 steps and one month. After picking the wood, Xie needs to carve (雕刻) the wood into an elephant-leg-like shape and make the inside empty. The drum surface is made of cow leather (牛皮), which needs several steps such
as leather selection (选择), cleaning, air-drying and so on. Then comes the painting. The finishing steps include tuning (调音) and polishing the leather.

(2024·湖南长沙·一模)On March 14, math and science lovers around the world celebrated a special day: Pi Day. Pi is equal to about 3.14, but the number goes on endlessly. It is sometimes written as π. With the help of computers, mathematicians have been able to calculate (计算) Pi out to over a trillion decimal (小数) places, but
there is still no end to the number. This makes Pi puzzling, even for the most famous scientists and mathematicians. Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14, since how we write this date, 3/14, looks just like the number Pi.
For some people, the attraction of Pi Day goes far beyond math and science. Pi shows up throughout popular culture. You can see it in movies, comics, music and more. In modern movies, any time the filmmaker wants to create a sense of mystery, often the symbol Pi is used.

Falling off a horse at high speed has a big risk of injury. You can say it’s the rider’s choice to take part in the sport. But what about the horses
However, some people come to realize how badly animals can be hurt when being trained and used for entertainment purposes. To help these animals, animal lovers have started many protection activities. In June, Churchill Downs, a small town located in the west of the US, stopped all horse racing. Performances using animals have been stopped by many countries around the world in recent years.
Animals play an important part in our lives and are more than tools for sports and entertainment. The human-animal connection can be seen in all kinds of places. Service animals can help people in their jobs and animals are also used to help and care for people with illnesses or who have experienced bad accidents.“We can have our sports, drinks, lively parties and beautiful hats—but we can leave the animals out of it,” reported Vox, journalist from World Animal Protection.

It is time for New Year’s resolutions every January. Will you eat healthier, exercise more and read more books

Are these seats of good quality, you may ask Don’t worry! A number of tests have been carried out on them. There were a UV resistance (抗紫外线) test, a fire resistance test, and more. People will be able to sit safely in the chairs and enjoy the excitement of the game!

Why is music so important to children Here are some of my thoughts on the subject.
Music has a positive (积极的) effect on young children's development!
New research shows that music has a good influence on young children's cognitive (认知的) skills, such as spatial reasoning (空间推理) and memory. Research also shows that offering children an interesting environment can support children’s healthy growth and development.
Young children enjoy making music with others! Making music with others gives children a wonderful feeling of belonging to the group. Children might have difficulty joining in activities with others because they are shy, have limited language ability or special needs, but they can freely take part in a music activity.
Music makes young children happy!
Children seem to experience much pleasure and joy when listening to music, making music and dancing to music. Whether they are singing along to a cD, playing an instrument or dancing to music around the classroom, most children seem to thoroughly (彻底地) enjoy participating in a music activity. How wonderful it is to offer children the chance to do some activities about music!

Months ago, at an exhibition (展览会) in the UK, we saw some things about what was science in 1923. It gave us the idea for the question: What will science be in 2123 Then we asked some experts for their ideas.
Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock, space scientist:
I think people in 2123 will work hard to develop technology for interstellar (星际的) travel. If successful, we humans could get to our next-door star system Alpha Centauri not in 76,000 years but in just 20 years. It would change humans’ understanding of the universe (宇宙). And in 100 years, people may be able to answer the question “Are we alone in the universe ”
Professor Steve Brusatte at University of Edinburgh:
I think in 100 years, people will see big improvements on medical science. Well, of course, doctors in 2123 will still use many of the medicines created in the 2020s. And I think that if there is an exhibition (展览) of today’s things in 2123, it will have some masks (防护面具) we used during the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠疫情).
Professor Andrea Sella at University College London:
I think in the future, people will look back on the small steps of quantum (量子) computers and laugh at our worry about AI (人工智能). At the same time, they may have to stand more terrible weather. They will wonder why we didn’t act to stop the world from warming by 4℃—5℃.

Its special geographic location (地理位置) makes it a beautiful place. It was one of the hardest places to reach and was the last city in China without a highway.
The construction (施工) of the first highway to Motuo started in the 1960s. However, it was no completed until over 50 years later. In 2014, the construction of its second highway the Paimo Highway started. In October 2022, the construction of the main body of the highway was completed.
They are great engineering projects. In this area, earthquakes and heavy rains happened very often. There could be falling rocks or even landslides (滑坡). People must build many walls and nets to protect the two highways. Another challenge was the snow. Plenty of snow sometimes destroyed rocks and roads. As a result, the construction of the highways to Motuo was stopped several times. To solve this problem, people built a tunnel (隧道) that goes through the mountain area.

(2024·湖南怀化·一模)Have you ever noticed plastic waste everywhere in your community Dr. Aboubacar Kampo has. He was living in C te d’ Ivoire, a country on the coast of West Africa, where plastic is a big environmental problem, compared with water and air pollution. C te d’ Ivoire’s biggest city, Abidjan, produces more than 300 tons of plastic rubbish a day, and only about 5% is recycled. “How can we turn plastic into something useful ” Kampo wondered.
So Kampo, who works for UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, googled, researched, and then noticed a company in Colombia, a country in South America. Plastic pollution is a problem there, too. Conceptos Plásticos, the Colombian company that Kampo read about online, recycles plastic waste and turns it into big, Lego-like bricks (砖) for building schools and houses.
Next, Kampo went to Colombia to learn about the company in person. He toured schools that were built with its bricks and the factory where the bricks were made. “Conceptos Plásticos gave us a solution,” Kampo said. He thought it could help with more than just the plastic problem. It could also improve children’s education.
According to UNICEF, 1.6 million children in C te d’ Ivoire don’t go to school. One reason is that there aren’t enough classrooms. For kids who do go to school, classrooms are often very crowded. Kids often sit on the floor and can’t stand up because there isn’t room to move around.
In 2018, UNICEF built its first classrooms in Abidjan, using bricks produced in Colombia by Conceptos Plásticos. Right away, the local education improved a lot. People couldn’t believe it at the beginning that the classrooms were made of plastic. But now all the parents want their children in these classrooms. By the end of 2021, UNICEF had built 528 classrooms in C te d’ Ivoire. The new Conceptos Plásticos factory in Abidjan will soon be producing bricks from rubbish collected in children’s playgrounds and on the beach.
The environmental influence is huge. Kampo says it takes about five and a half tons of plastic and just a few weeks to build a classroom. Unlike traditional buildings, no cement (水泥) is needed. “It’s just a hammer (锤子) and those bricks,” he added.
