When I read books, my heart is always filled with pleasure. Now I often buy my favorite books online for its discounts.

Dear Sir/Madam,
①It is now common to go online in the home, yet a recent survey showed that ninety-five percent of parents do not know what websites their children visit. I strongly believe that a training project should be started to help parents to improve their Internet and computer skills so that they can better monitor and guide their children.
②One advantage of providing training is that it would get parents to pay more attention to their children's online activities. If they had a better understanding of the Internet, they would see the need to make sure that their children use it properly and responsibly.
③Another argument for providing training to parents is that it would allow parents to help their children with their schoolwork. These days, a lot of homework needs to be done on computers. If parents have poor computer skills, they will be of little or no help with homework, which can make them upset. Some people argue that it is good that students can work independently on computers. However, it is clear that students, especially young students, often need this kind of home support.
④Improving parents' Internet and computer skills might also be a good way or parents to improve their relationships with their children. These days, children spend a lot of their free time on computers. If parents want to be part of that free time, they need to see that playing on computers can be a fun family activity. Joining their children can help parents bridge the generation gap(代沟) between them and their children.
⑤I strongly believe that children need to be helped and guided to use the Internet in a proper and responsible way, and so training is extremely important.
Yours faithfully.
Pat Chan

When you think of the Arctic (北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. “And now.” CNN says, “it’s the Arctic’s turn.”
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1,800 pieces of microplastics per liter of (每升) snow.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic
According to scientists, it’s clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air. They fall off the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.
Are they bad for us Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in “large” pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What’s more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our waste water, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we’re eating the plastic as well.
7. We can learn from Paragraph 1 that ________.

Our children and grandchildren may not have a chance to visit many of the most famous places around the world. War, weather, age, traffic and p 1 damage (破坏) these famous places. If we do nothing, they may even no longer remain. But looking after these places often c 2 more than one country can afford.
In the early 1970s, world governments decided that if they j 3 together, they would be able to do something for humans’history. If every country paid some money, they said, it would be p 4 to look after important historic places. For this reason, countries around the world united to form the World Heritage Organization (世界遗产组织) in 1972. Today, the organization helps to p 5 and rebuild the most important places from our history.
However, one of the b 6 problems for historic places is vandalism (肆意破坏). That is to say, people sometimes e 7 these places and damage the buildings. A 8 some places, such as Stonehenge in England, governments have built high fences to prevent vandals.
There are many different ideas about how to solve the problem of vandalism. Some professors say that if guards keep w 9 around these places, vandals won’t be able to get in. O 10 say that the best way is education. If people lean to respect history, they won’t damage it. They will also want to spend money looking after old places. Because of this, the World Heritage Organization helps to spread information about the value of historic places.
