A game of catch is simply two people throwing a ball back and forth(来回地). It seems a little 131 and many people may not be interested in it. The two people are close enough to talk, but too far to touch. They might have baseball gloves, or they might use their hands.
In fact, playing catch is part of 132 practice—to make you get used to using a ball and glove. But any American kid will teach you it’s much more than that. Playing catch is a time for kids to 133 with your father. It’s a time when there’s 134 to worry about except catching a ball. It’s a time when words move asseamlessly(准确不误地) as the ball

When adults are asked to talk about the good 138 of their dads, many of them will say something about playing catch. Why Probably because dads are usually very 139 . A catch game is a time that is only for one thing. This is a time when a kid has her dad's 140 . There is no work, no phone and no other people around to take your dad away from you. For the time that it takes to play a game of catch, your dad is all yours.

It was dark and silent around me. I could not see anything at all, and I did not know 54 anyone else was near me. I felt nervous and my heart was 55 fast. A moment of fear 56 my mind. But I told myself to 57 down since I was still alive.
I 58 for help loudly, but no one came. I started to walk through the dark. Luckily, there was just enough space for me to move. Hours later, as I was trying to find my way out, I 59 heard some noise above me. I screamed, “help! Please help! I’m here!” Then people quickly moved away the bricks. At last, I saw the bright daylight. I felt so lucky that I was 60 . From this experience, I learn that no matter what difficulties we meet, try not to be nervous and find a solution.

Laughter is natural for people. We start to laugh at about four months of age. We start to laugh even 111 we start to speak.
Laughter connects us with others. We laugh more when we are with other people. It’s difficult to pretend to laugh. Laughter is 112 . When people pretend to laugh, most people know it’s not real.
When do people laugh
Only 10 to 20 percent of laughter is about something 113 . Most laughter is about being friendly with other people. Most laughter says, “I don’t want to 114 with you. I want to be friendly with you.” This kind of laughter brings people together.
We often laugh when we feel nervous. In movies, there is often a joke at an exciting moment when everyone feels nervous. It is usually a(n) 115 joke, but we laugh a lot. Our laughter helps us 116 .

It is true that hard workers are always fighting against the attraction of sleep. The allusion(典故)xuan liang ci gu, which means tying one’s hair to the house beam(房梁)and stabbing one’s thigh(大腿)with a sharp tool, tells 121 stories about the hard experience of keeping awake.

It’s a time when words move asseamlessly(准确不误地) as the ball itself, back and forth, easy and relaxing. It’s an excuse to 135 timetogether.
Because baseball is an American sport, and a big part of being American, playing catch is kind of an all-American dad activity. In the suburbs(郊区), most people have backyards — not 136 enough to play baseball in, but just big enough for a game of catch. Those who have no 137 can play in the street or in the park.

One of my earliest memories is play “shops” with my grandpa when I was 5. After leaving school at 18, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no 171 of how to run my own shop back then.
Several years later, my husband Eric and I heard about a shop for sale in a nearby village. We had a look and decided to have it as our own. We were a bit 172 at shop-keeping, so we often didn’t know what the 173 were asking for. But we soon learned how to run it well.
Nowadays, more people shop online, but they still come here for things 174 from their order. I’ve kept up with technology, but the shop itself hasn’t changed much.
Now, as I’m getting older, the shop is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, 175 closing at 8:30 p.m. like before.
Eric died 16 years ago, but I am 176 giving up the shop. I love it all—talking to the customers and getting 177 they want. Some customers come in two or three
times a day. They often tell me their 178 and I offer advice if I can.
It was the shop’s 50th anniversary (周年) on May 13 this year. I wanted to do something 179 , so I held a party with my customers. I also wrote a book about my memories in the shop.
This shop has been my life. I never 180 I’d still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people here. It’s what keeps me going.

Thirty years ago, a dog called Cookie came to my home. Though it was hard for me to support another family 191 , I never gave it a second thought.
I was a travel writer. I often traveled over the country to 192 material for writing. When I came back home and wrote my stories, Cookie always sat next to my desk and we could have conversations about where I’d been and what I’d seen. We 193 each other as only animals and those who love them can. I often read what I’d written to her. If she turned away to start cleaning a paw, I knew that she didn’t like it and I had to 194 my story. Of course, she didn’t understand what I was really writing. But this kind of communication with her was my 195 of pushing a story to a higher level.
She encouraged me 196 in making up stories and became my companion in my travels. Some readers may think it 197 to have such a relationship, but dog owners like me would know it’s true and understand us.
My heart was broken when my friend Cookie 198 me forever. She died at her age of 16. Like many old friends, she and I shared a lot over the years. I miss her so much and I am also 199 to her for being at my side for all those years, listening and simply loving.
It doesn’t matter if she never understood a word I said or that she never left me. She was my travel 200 and always will be.
