Dear friends,
Nowadays, many students pay little attention to physical exercise, which does harm to their health. Doing sports on a regular basis in fact plays an important role in maintaining students’ physical fitness. It can also improve mental well-being by reducing stress and building up confidence.
Given the benefits mentioned above, I strongly recommend everyone to make use of the sports facilities at our school to take an active part in various sports ranging from playing basketball to kicking shuttlecock, which provides opportunities for physical exercise, mental relaxation and personal growth. Also, it will be better if we incorporate physical activity into our daily routines such as going to and from school by bike or on foot.
Even small efforts can make a great difference in improving our overall fitness. Let’s sweat our way to good health and a more vibrant campus community.

The Museum of London is starting to unearth what might turn out to be as many as 3,000 human skeletons (遗骸) under a train station in the United Kingdom’s capital. The bones were exposed when workers began building a new entrance to a train station in London, England.
As the first city burial (埋葬) ground in London, Bedlam was probably used between 1569 and 1738. Its name comes from the nearby Hospital of Saint Mary of Bethlehem, which people also called Bedlam. Often, the people buried in Bedlam could not afford to be buried anywhere else. The burial ground also served as an overflow cemetery (墓地). That means that if other cemeteries became full, a person would be buried in Bedlam instead. It is believed that there could be a total of 20,000 skeletons in the overall burial ground.
Experts think studying the skeletons may help them learn about London’s past, including questions about the Black Death, a deadly disease that had a terrible influence on much of the world. It started in the mid-1300s and swept through Asia, Africa, and Europe. Historians believe almost 50 million people died of the disease, including many of those buried at Bedlam. “Sixteen sixty-five saw the very last recorded period of the disease,” says Jay Carver, the leading expert on the project. Carver and his team believe the Bedlam bodies may explain why the outbreak suddenly stopped.
The dig site also sits above an even older Roman road (between the 2nd and 3rd century A. D. ). Archaeologists (考古学家) have already found a large number of objects from Roman times, including horseshoes and urns. Nick Elsden, the project manager for the site, says, “This is the UK’s largest archeology project, in what is one of the oldest areas of the city, so we stand to learn a great deal.”

A. studied B. found

While a healthy diet has always been considered necessary for overall wellness, historically, many hospitals do not notice its powerful potential for recovery. In some areas, that’s beginning to change. In Pennsylvania four years ago, St. Luke’s Hospital worked with Rodale Institute to start an organic produce (有机农产品) farm at the hospital’s campus in Easton. Since its first season, the St.Luke’s farm has expanded to grow 100 fruits and vegetables on 11-12 acres.
Today, St. Luke’s sends all new mothers home with a basket of organic produce. New moms aren’t the only ones benefiting from the farm’s harvest, which is also served to patients, cooked up in the canteens of the hospital and sold at nearby farmers’ markets.
Hospital farms are part of a broader movement to make organic, locally produced food accessible to the general population. Some hospitals are buying food from nearby farms, organic produce easily accessible to the patients and visitors alike, these hospitals hope to inspire lifelong changes for better health. Even though most hospital farms aren’t growing enough to completely support their own hospitals, providing even a small amount of fresh vegetable makes people realize how healthy a plant-rich diet can be.
While the farm-to-hospital movement continues to develop, it’s meeting with some challenges along the way. For one, health workers don’t necessarily know how to grow food. This means that most hospitals need to hire a full-time farmer and other farm labor to manage the field, which can be expensive. Most hospital farms start making just enough money to cover their costs within 3 to 5 years, let alone make profits for now. But participating hospitals still believe that the benefits are worthwhile. As the movement continues to expand, local people might soon experience a farm-fresh meal at a hospital near them.
33. Why was the organic produce farm established
A. To teach patients how to grow organic food.
B. To provide the financial support for hospitals.
C. To help hospitals notice the power of wellness.
D. To promote the recovery potential of healthy diets.
34. Why is the example of “new mothers” mentioned in paragraph 2
A. It proves that St. Luke’s Hospital cares for new mothers.
B. It shows the benefits of the farm-to-hospital movement.
C. It stresses the importance of healthy diets for new mothers.
D. It tells us that St. Luke’s produce is sold at farmers’ markets.
35. How do hospitals make organic produce accessible to the public
A. By buying vegetable from local markets.
B. By supporting the recovery of patients.
C. By growing food in hospital gardens.
D. By moving hospitals to nearby farm.
36. What can we learn about the movement from the last paragraph
A. It is profitable and meaningful.
B. It is little known but worthwhile.
C. It is challenging but rewarding.
D. It is selfless and caring.
D
No business would welcome being compared to gambling (赌博). Yet that is what is happening to makers of video games. For years parents have complained that their children are “addicted” to their video games and smartphones. Today, however, even more doctors are using the term. On January 1 this year, “gaming disorder” — in which games are played uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Are games really addictive Psychologists have different opinions. Those who don’t think so say that this is just another moral panic. Similar warnings have been given about television, rock’n’roll, jazz, comic books, novels and even crossword puzzles, but it turns out that they are not as harmful as expected.
However, supporters argue that game developers have the motivation and the means to design their products to make them extremely attractive. For one thing, the business- model has changed: In the old days, games were bought once and for all. But these days, games are free and money is earned from buying of in-game goods, which ties playtime directly to profit they make. For another, game-makers combine psychological theory and data, which helps them maximize the playtime. Smart phones and modern video game machines use their permanent Internet connections to send gameplay data back to developers. In this way products are constantly adjusted to encourage players’ spending. The biggest spenders are known as “whales”, a term that originated in casinos (赌场).
The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. Now that gaming addiction comes with an official WHO recognition, diagnoses will become more common. Anyway, being put together with gambling in the public mind, fairly or not, will not do the industry any good.
37. What do we know from Paragraph 1
A. It is not suitable to compare video games to gambling.
B. Parents complain about their children’s addiction to gambling.
C. Gaming addiction was officially recognized as a disease.
D. More doctors are against the use of the term “addicted”.
38. What does the underlined words “moral panic” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Unexpected addiction caused by science and technology.
B. Wrong judgment on how harmful something is.
C. Trouble caused by someone’s immoral behavior.
D. A shocking statement of the unexpected panic.
39. What do games developers do to make games attractive
A. They don’t charge players for in-game goods.
B. They keep players’ video game machines updated.
C. They reward big spenders with a unique title.
D. They adjust products based on received data.
40. In the last paragraph, the author aims to _______.
A. offer a suggestion B. make a prediction
C. give a warning D. put forward a solution

Ask most people which day of the week they fear the most and the answer is likely to be Monday. The first day of the working week can make us experience a sense of tiredness or fatigue. 41 6
42 It’s the time of year when we’re supposedly feeling at our lowest and most “blue”. We’re thought to be more likely to feel down because the weather’s cold and we’re back at work. We’ve got to make up all the money we spent at Christmas and we’re feeling guilty for already breaking our New Year’s resolutions.
Some consider the term, pseudo-science, saying that there is no such thing as a 24-hour depression. 43 The decreasing motivation to work, the lack of interest in everything and the regret for what is not finished can be clearly felt on the first day of the week. 44 9Someone who misses the deadline and cannot meet the standard at work affects the overall efficiency and teamwork within a project.
Fortunately, we don’t have to suffer that on Monday, not if we remember: we all have our good days and our bad days, and those aren’t for the calendar (日历) to decide. 45 Rather than automatically thinking we feel blue on Blue Monday, reflect on the well being of our mind, practice self-care and seek support when needed. In this way, we can weather the Monday blues and any other challenges that come our way.
The most depressing day of the year is the third Monday in January.
Actually it’s common to feel a bit depressed for several times in a year.
But most people know that the Monday blues can be very real.
D. That’s why the feeling is described as the Monday blues.
E. The term is not even scientifically true, with basically no evidence.
F. These can have a negative impact on our performance, productivity and the people around.
G. In fact, it’s actually a good opportunity to check in on our mental health.
