一、任务型阅读-简答:本大题共5小题,共100分。
6.阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题,每个题目的答案不超过5个单词。
As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. One day, when he was 12, he returned home from school. At the front door of his building, he looked for his keys. He didn t have them. It was 3:30 p.m and his parents worked until 6:00 p.m.
Alain looked at his flat on the eighth floor.
He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and imagined himself climbing the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself, “I can do it.” Fifteen minutes later, he was in his house and his fear of heights was gone.
Today, Alain still climbs buildings. In 2003, he climbed a building in London dressed as Spiderman to advertise the movie. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world). To reach the top of a building, Alain uses only his hands and special shoes. Alain climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity—for children and the homeless.
When he climbs, he wants to send a message to people. If you have a dream—something you really want to do—it can become real. But you must be brave and keep trying. If something bad happens, don t give up. Close your eyes and tell yourself, “I can do it”.

(3) Why did Alain climb a building in London dressed as Spiderman ________________________

7.As a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress(全国人民代表大会), Jin Ruirui, 33, wore a traditional Yi costume and brought Yi embroidery(彝绣) to this year's two sessions(两会). Jin is an inheritor(传承人) of the Yi embroidery of Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture(自治州), Southwest China's Yunnan province. She has brought suggestions for developing the local embroidery industry and promoting(促进) women's employment(就业).
Jin was among the first group of college students in her village, but instead of working in big cities, she chose to come back to her hometown to set up her own Yi embroidery company.
"My mother raised me with the money she made as an embroiderer. I want to carry on her skills and help more embroiderers who are just like my mother—they might not get much education, but they know well about our local culture, " said Jin.
Jin went on field trips to many local villages and found that there were many left﹣behind children with their parents working far away in big cities. "Think about how good it will be if embroidery can bring them enough money so that they can work at home and stay together with their children, " Jin said, remembering how she started her career.
With the support from the local government and the hard work of people like Jin, Yi embroidery has become a growing industry. They train embroiderers and hire designers to make the embroidery pieces more modern. They hold fashion shows promoting Yi costumes in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai and do business with other provinces and even foreign countries. Jin just got an export(出口) order of 6, 500 Yi embroidered costumes to the UK last month.
During the past 10 years, more than 60, 000 Yi women in Chuxiong have taken part in the local Yi embroidery industry. Their average(平均) monthly income(收入) grew from about 500 yuan to around 3, 000 yuan. "Now, even some men have started to work as embroiderers, taking up about 4 percent of the workforce staff," Jin added. "We have made our lives better with our traditional culture and skills."

8. Is Space Tourism a Good Idea "The most profound(深远的) experience I can imagine" is how actor William Shatner described the four minutes he spent in space. He was one of four passengers on board billionaire Jeff Bezos' rocket, called New Shepard.
It was the second time that the rocket had successfully taken tourists into space. Bezos believes that in the future, millions of people will live and work in space. This will reduce the amount of pollution being caused on Earth.
However, Prince William says people should fix problems on Earth before going to space. "We need to put the world's greatest brains together to try to repair this planet, instead of trying to find the next place to go and live. "he says. What do you think Is space tourism a good idea
YES— "It is the future and it will save the Earth."
The developing technology will allow people to live and work in space in the future. People could move polluting businesses away from Earth and into space, which will protect the planet.
The projects are complicated(复杂的) and require lots of people working on them. This creates lots of new jobs for scientists and engineers.
Let's not forget that going into space is also a lot of fun. Besides, humankind likes to explore and to find out what it is capable of achieving.
NO— "It is a fantasy and waste of money"
Billions of pounds could go towards feeding hungry people, housing those without homes and providing medical treatment for people in need. The time and money spent on space tourism could also be used to develop technologies to protect the environment and the planet from climate change.
What's more, space travel does more harm than good. This is because rockets create huge amounts of pollution as they burn tons of fuel in order to fly into the sky.
Lastly, space tourism is only for the rich. Few people can afford to buy a ticket to space.
Because of this, it will only end up being the wealthiest who get to go.
(1) How much time did William Shatner spend in space on New Shepard ___________________________________________________________
(2) What does Jeff Bezos believe in paragraph 2 ___________________________________________________________

9. No artist required One day, Ammaar Reshi was playing around with a chatbot called ChatGPT, a computer program using artificial intelligence (AI) to copy the way human beings think and write. Reshi then came up with an idea to use the AI program to make a children's book. The story of the book came from a conversation Reshi had with the chatbot, about a girl called Alice. And then he used another AI program, Midjourney, to make illustrations (插图) for the book. Midjourney is a new AI powered tool that can turn words into amazing artwork, like pictures.
The book, Alice and Sparkle, was done in just a couple of days. "Anyone can use these AI tools," Res his aid. "And they're not hard to use."
Reshi posted about the book online after it was finished. Heated argument about it started at once. Some people liked the lovely story as well as the beautiful illustrations and praised Reshi for his smartness. But not everyone welcomed the birth of the special book. Among them, artists were especially critical of it. They think the way the illustrations were made was a big problem. Midjourney searches through millions of pictures created by artists on the Internet. And then it manages to find patterns (式样) in those pictures and create new ones based on the patterns. Artists often upload their work online for people to enjoy. But Midjourney could be using their work without permission (允许).
"The main problem to me about AI is that it was taken from artists' work," illustrator Adriane Tsai says. "It's our creations, our personal styles, that we did not permit them to use."
Many artists and writers are nervous about the future. Will people pay for their work if it can be done cheaper by using AI programs
Some companies are already choosing AI over human talent. The San Francisco Ballet used pictures made with Midjourney to improve its production of the classic The Nutcracker. At a funny performance club, an AI-powered robot told jokes that made people laugh out loud. Journalist Abraham Riesman said, "It's deeply troubling to see people looking for cheap alternatives (替代品) to actual human writing."
Reshi says technology companies should protect artists and writers whose work might be used by AI tools. He suggests that they should involve artists and writers in the process of creation.
(1) What is Midjourney?
(2) How did Reshi make a children's book?
(3) What did people think of Reshi's book?
(4) Why are many artists and writers nervous about the future?
(5) Do you think it is a good idea to use AI programs in the process of creation Why or why not (请自拟一句话作答)
