教学目标
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to 1. master the new words “express, mystery, receive, leader, medical, purpose, energy, position, honor, victory, enemy, period” by matching the meanings and using them contextually; 2. make inferences by using modal verbs; 3. get specific information of Stonehenge by skimming and scanning the passage, and deeply understand the mysteries by using linking words or phrases; 4. develop thinking quality by brainstorming, predicting, answering questions, thinking and summarizing; 5. have an awareness of protecting the cultural heritages; 6. find using online resources is another good way to improve English.
教学内容
教学重点: 1. To help Ss learn the new words contextually; 2. To help Ss get specific information of Stonehenge and making inferences; 教学难点: 1.To develop Ss’ thinking quality by brainstorming, predicting, answering questions, thinking and summarizing; 2. To help Ss have an awareness of protecting the cultural heritages.
教学过程
Step 1 Pre-reading Talk about the picture and lead into the topic—Stonehenge. Get Ss to predict the genre of the passage according to the title. Step 2 While-reading 1. Skim the passage and check the genre and find the structure of the passage. (tip 1: The main ideas can help you.) 2. Scan the first paragraph and find the basic information of Stonehenge. Circle the description words about Stonehenge. Lead the linking word “as” and phrase “not only...but also” in. 3. Find the new words in Part 2(Para 2, 3 &4) and match them with their meanings. (tip 2: Notice the part of speech and read the context.) Read the new words after the audio. 4. Read Part 2 and find the mysteries. Write the answers in the first column in 2c. (tip 3: Use your own words to summarize the mysteries.) 5. Read 2a. Match each linking word or phrase with its purpose 6. Scan Para 2 and 3 and find out what Stonehenge might have been used plete the second column in 2c. (tip 4: Use the linking words or phrases to help you understand the passage.) 7. Read Para 4 and find out what kind of person the builders were. 8. Read what Paul Stoker says, think: How might Paul Stoker feel when he says the words Try: If you are Paul Stoker, how will you say these sentences Focus on the linking words, lead “and” in. Step 3 Post-reading 1. Read 2d and complete the sentences with the correct linking words. 2. Think: What do you think of Stonehenge What can we do with the cultural heritages or natural mysteries, such as Stonehenge or the Great Wall Homework: 1. Write down your opinions on protecting the cultural heritages or natural mysteries; 2. Make 5 inferences about Stonehenge’s mysteries with the linking words. E.g. Stonehenge can’t be a temple because it was built so many centuries ago. *3. Can you think of any other mysteries, either in China or another part of the world, that are similar to Stonehenge Find the information online and talk about them with your partner.
