William Kamkwamba was born in 1987. He lives in Malawi, Africa. There most people have to grow their own food and have no electricity or running water. Only a few Malawians have enough money to buy electricity. With no electricity or running water, life is difficult.
In 2001, life in Malawi became even more difficult. William’s family didn’t have enough money to send him to school anymore. But William didn’t want to give up his study. So he went to the library near his home to study. One day, he found a science book called Using Energy. It showed ways to build a windmill (风车). It also described (描述) how it could be used to produce electricity from wind. William didn’t know much English, and he wasn’t able to understand (理解) most of the book, but it was full of pictures. Looking at the pictures, William thought he could build a windmill for his family.

Electricity is an important part in our life. But, some people don’t know that everyone should save electricity.
