During the Spring Festival, Chinese people should have a wonderful time celebrating the big day. But on February 12, a news event in Monument to the people’s Liberation (解放碑) of Chongqing surprised the whole country. A man from Kunming, Yunnan, drove a cool SUV called Tank 300 on the busy Zhonghua Road in reverse (逆行). After he hit several cars, he not only did not work with policemen, but also tried to run away and fight back to the police officers as well as local people, which not only seriously broke public order, but also had a very bad influence on the image (形象) of Yunnan people.
After receiving the alarm, the police quickly rushed to the scene, and in the face of this sudden situation, the police began to deal with it at once. In the video, we could see police officers holding electric batons (警棍) hitting the car windscreen and continuing to tell warnings to the man. However, this method didn’t work. Instead, the man drove his SUV running through the crowd, seeming to be completely crazy about his behavior.
Faced with this dangerous situation, nearby local Chongqing people also joined in stopping the man’s actions bravely. Some of them pushed trash cans trying to stop the big car, while others threw parking signs in order to warn him.
During the fighting, we may wonder why he had such a mad behavior One reason is that he got much money from the government and became rich overnight. Another one is that he didn’t get a good education.
Finally, after 30 minutes’ fight, the man was successfully caught by the police and the public. He has been criminally put into the police station and the case is under further discussion. However, the result of this event is far from over. As we can all guess, he is sure to be seriously punished because of breaking laws.

4.What happened in Jiefangbei on February 12 was really shocking. What do you think after you learn about the event Please share your thoughts in about 30 words.

John and Bobby joined the same company together just after graduation from college the same year. Both worked very hard. Several years later, however, the boss promoted (提拔) Bobby to manager but John was still a worker. John could not take it, and gave his resignation (辞职信) to the boss. He complained it was unfair because the boss did not think much of those who were hard-working, but promoted only those who flattered (奉承) him.
The boss knew that John had worked very hard for the years. He thought for a moment and said, “Thank you for what you said, but I hope you will do one more thing for our company before you leave.”
John agreed. The boss asked him to go and find anyone selling watermelons in the market. John went and returned soon. He said he had found a man selling watermelons. The boss asked how much they cost every kilogram. John shook his head and went back to the seller to ask and returned to tell the boss $1.2 per kg.
The boss told John to wait a second, and he called Bobby to come to his office. He asked Bobby to go and find anyone selling watermelons in the market. Bobby went and returned, saying, “Boss, only one person is selling watermelons $1.2 per kg, and $10 for 10 kg. The seller has 340 watermelons. On the table there are 58, and each weighs about 2 kilograms. They were brought from the South two days ago. They are fresh and of good quality.” Hearing what Bobby said, John said nothing and lost in thought...

(2024·重庆·一模)“Lying down” (also known as tang ping), has become a hot word among young Chinese people these days. The idea of low material needs and being willing to accept whatever life gives them is described as a “lying down” lifestyle.
Some young people complain that to raise a child needs too much money and they often get into a fight with
their family. At the same time, the rising living costs including food and housing have pushed them so hard that they could hardly breathe. Some want to lie down because their tiring jobs, competition with peers, as well as personal relationships force them to run away.
On the other hand, with the great improvement of living conditions, it is true that some Chinese youth today have lost the spirit of fighting hard for a better life. “I stay at home, sleep and watch TV series, and I’m pleased with what I have now. Actually, there are many people around me who value happiness and freedom most,” said Daisy, who left her job two weeks ago. No wonder that some young people would choose to live a simple way instead of always following the good quality of fighting hard.
Interestingly, most young people, who are “big fans” of the “lying down” lifestyle, point out that they only accept a temporary (暂时的) lying down as a short rest. In fact, lying down is not totally comfortable for them. Most young people who lie down always regard it as a lack of ambition (抱负、夙愿) and feel ashamed (羞耻的) about it.
“Young people have both ambition and confusion (困惑) about their future, but most of us have refused to waste chances and challenges,” a college student said.
9.Do most young people really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle according to the passage
10.What is a “lying-down” lifestyle
11.What do most young people regard the “lying down” lifestyle as
12.Do you think the “lying down” lifestyle is the best way to deal with difficulties in your life Why or why not

About 41.1 percent of Chinese men were overweight or obese (肥胖的) compared with 27.7 percent of Chinese women, according to a study published in a well-known medical journal.
Chinese Body Mass Index (BMI体质指数) system describes overweight as BMI from 24 to 27.9 kg/m2 and obesity as BMI at or above 28 kg/m2. You can know your BMI with the following formula.
Researchers studied data from about 15.8 million people across about 250 cities in China. According to Chinese BMI standard, 34.8 percent of the studied population was overweight and 14.1 percent was obese. These people were aged 18 or above.
There are several reasons why men are more likely to be obese. As fathers, husbands, and brothers, men usually have to stand long-term excessive stress and negative feelings which can make the body produce more stress hormones (荷尔蒙). Such hormones play a role in increasing fat collecting.
In order to reduce stress, men often tend to drink alcohol, eat an unbalanced diet, and stay up late into the night. Some other habits, like sitting for too long without moving at work and sleeping irregularly (不规律地) are also closely related to obesity. All above can add to the risk of becoming obese.
By region (地区), the percentage of overweight and obesity in the north was generally higher than that in the south, with Inner Mongolia (37.1 percent), Shandong (37.1 percent), and Hebei (36.6 percent) being the top three.
People in higher BMI groups tend to have a greater number of complications. The early examination and intervention are important ways to prevent obesity-related complications.
13.Was the percentage of obesity in Hebei higher than that in Shandong according to the study
14.If a boy is 1.5 m tall and his BMI is 24 kg/m , how heavy is he
15.Why are men more likely to be obese according to the passage
16.If you become a little overweight, will you make up your mind to lose weight Why or why not

(23-24九年级下·重庆渝中·阶段练习)Reading is an extremely important and necessary skill, which you need throughout your life; without it, you could fail achieving many things, such as education and, in the future,
jobs.
There is plenty of evidence (证据) to suggest that children who read for enjoyment not only perform better in reading tests but also develop a wider vocabulary and have greater general knowledge and understanding of other cultures. Reading for pleasure also makes it possible for young people to develop better problem-solving skills and greater empathy (同情), giving them better relationships with others. All of these things come together to give children improved feelings of happiness and well-being (健康幸福). In fact, reading for pleasure has a greater influence on children’s achievement at school than their social or economic background.
The positive effects of reading are there for all ages. If children are too young to read themselves, then it is important to read to them, talk to them and surround (围绕) them with books. Reading should be a part of our everyday lives but the benefits (益处) are stronger when reading for pleasure rather than because we “have to”. It should be happening at home as well as in school.
World Book Day, created by UNESCO (an organization responsible for making sure that everyone in the world gets a chance to learn) in 1995 to celebrate reading, is a one-day festival. During World Book Day, children are given a chance to talk about their favorite books, learn more about their favorite writers and explore new stories. They are encouraged to take part in different fun activities, encouraging a love of reading and books in all.

(2023·重庆沙坪坝·模拟预测)These years, China is making great efforts to show itself on the world stage(舞台). A computer game and a documentary are really catching eyes.
Genshin, a computer game praised twice in CCTV news, holds an honored place in players’ heart all over the world. Li Yue, a city in the game, is originated from(源自) China. Many natural views of Li Yue are copies of real China’s. Many players are amazed by the mountainous view which comes from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and colorful lakes that come from Huanglong scenic area.
Besides, some other things in the game are spoken highly of by players. For example, a character, Yun Jin, sings an excellent Chinese opera. And some characters’ clothes and buildings are designed in ancient Chinese style. In this game, there is even a festival just like the Spring Festival. It’s called Lantern Rite. On that day, the players will watch beautiful sky lanterns.
When Genshin shines on the world stage, in 2021, a documentary called the Forbidden City also made its name on the world stage. It is divided into 12 episodes(集数). To attract more people, the documentary creates 12 songs. The lyrics of one song include a famous line written by Su Shi in Song Dynasty. If you ask people from different countries “Could you tell me the way to the post office ”, you will get different answers.
In Japan, people use landmarks (路标) instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the corner. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop.”
In Kansas, America, there are no towns or buildings within miles. So instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distance. For example, people will say, “Go north two miles. Turn east, and then go another mile.”
People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions. They will often say, “Follow me.” Then he or she will take you through the streets of the city to the post office.
Sometimes if a person, like a New Yorker, doesn’t know the answer to your question, he or she might say, “Sorry, I have no idea.”
But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers like “I don’t know”. People there think “I don’t know” is not polite. They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one. A visitor can often get lost in Yucatan!
But one thing will help you everywhere. You might not understand a person’s words, but maybe you can understand his or her body language. He or she will usually point to the correct direction. Go on in that direction and you may find the post office!

Last year, I got to know a group of autistic(患自闭症的)children. We called them "the Snails(蜗牛)". It was hard to communicate with them at first, because they wouldn't like to. After a two-week training, I became more skilled. I got closer to them day by day. To my surprise, I found that every one of "the Snails" had his or her own talent. And their colorful pictures on the wall attracted my special attention, though it was difficult to tell what they were trying to express.
Moved by their pictures, I decided to hold a charity (慈善) sale. We walked on the busy street, selling their
creative pictures. We sold 60 pictures that day. People thought their pictures were full of imagination.
Back to the question about how to become a better person, I think I am lucky enough to get my own answer.

Hey, everybody! Welcome to our chat group! Enjoy your sharing moment.
Hi! I’ve been studying English since primary school. I used to get high marks in English, but now I’m having a lot of trouble with my listening. When I listen to native (本土的) English speakers talking in a video, I can catch only a few words so I can never quite get the main idea. Any advice
Listening to English radio programme helps me get used to how fast native speakers talk. I also repeat what I hear to help myself to experience the feeling of the language. Sometimes I even record my voice so I can listen to myself and compare my pronunciation with the radio host’s! My biggest headache is how to be polite in English. It’s so much easier to just say “Open the window!”, but in English that can sound really terrible. I have to think about who I’m talking to and then decide whether to say, “Open the window, please!” or “Could you open the window, please ”
Yeah, that’s really hard! I think it all depends on who you’re talking to. If I’m talking to a close friend, I can use short requests, like “Open the window”—our relationship is close and we’re equals (同等的人), so I only need a few words to bridge the gap between us. But if I’m talking to someone who isn’t very close to me, I must make my request longer—and I must make it a question, not a demand (要求), e.g., “Could you open the window, please ” If I’m talking to someone senior to me, then I should say, “Would you mind opening the window, please ” For me, vocabulary is my biggest problem—there are just So MANY new words! I can’t keep all the new words straight in my head. HELP!
41.According to the article, is it polite to ask a stranger the way by saying “Show me the way to the bank.”
42.How many problems are mentioned in the chat history
43.What did they do in the discussion
44.Please give Li Rui some advice on her problem. (About 30 words)

At Mother’s Camp, a woman has room to herself and no one will bother (打扰)her. No children will ask, “Mom, what’s for dinner ” No husband will say, “Oh, dear, I can’t find any clean socks.” In fact, almost 50% of women in the United States work outside the home.
Many of them work full-time and then come home to a second job: taking care of their homes and families. These working women say one of their biggest problems is housework. In the United States, working wives do about 75% of the housework.
Some women go to Mother’s Camp just to get a rest from housework. For two days they don’t cook, they
don’t clean, or they don’t look after their children and husbands. What do they do They enjoy warm, sunny weather, walking, swimming or boating in a clear blue lake and singing songs around the campfire (篝火). They relax away from home. They have a really wonderful vacation at Mother’s Camp.

(22-23九年级下·重庆·开学考试)Some people bring out the best in you in a way that you might never have fully realized on your own. My mother was one of those people.
My father died when I was one year old. While I was growing up, we lived a very hard life, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she seated me on her lap and, spoke the words that would change my life, “Kemmons, you are sure to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it.”
At fourteen, I was hit by a car and the doctors said that I would never walk again. Every night my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me whatever those doctors said, I could walk again if I wanted to. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her. A year later, I walked on my own to school!
Over the years, I experienced a lot of business success. But the real turning point in my life happened on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951. The hotel room we stayed in was in poor condition and I felt very angry when I was asked to pay two more dollars for each child. That was too expensive for an ordinary American family. I told my wife that I was going to open a motel (汽车旅馆) for families that would never charge extra money for children. Many people did not believe me at that time. Not surprisingly, mom was my strongest supporter. As in any business, I experienced a lot of difficulties. But with my mom’s words in my heart, I never doubted I would succeed. Fifteen years later, I had the largest hotel system in the world—Holiday Inn (旅馆). In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income of $1 billion a year.
My mom has been gone for many years, but those of her gentle, loving words are still ringing in my ears. She was the one who always encouraged me to be a pioneer in what I wanted to achieve. If you find a task in life worth working for, just believe in yourself and work hard. Nothing can stop you! Did Kemmons live a rich life with his mom when he was young
