Step2.New Lesson
Introduction
“Five out of seven” is a well-structured article, which often has two or three parts. This type of exercise examines the logical relations in English.
Analysis
Three methods
Just now you said you knew three methods of solving the problem, now work in groups to talk about the detail information about the methods, three minutes later one student in each group will present the results of your discussion.

(1) Logical relation method---Observe the logical relationship of the context and establish the correct logical relationship between the sentences through the logical relation words.
(2) Core word method---A word that appears more often in an article or in a title is called a core word. Use the core word to filter and pay attention to the matching degree between the core words in the paragraphs and the ones in the choices.
(3) Elimination method---This is a method of problem-solving which is always used in the process of finishing the exercise.
Two steps
Use a two-step process to solve the answer to each blank. First read the seven answers and master the general idea of the passage. Then analyse the logical relationship of the context, pay attention to the core word and the space position to finish the exercise.
Using
Let’s do some exercises to consolidate these methods. Now read the following passage with your neighbour and analyse it to choose the best answer.
“No man is an island” is a well-known line from John Donne’s Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, written more than three hundred years ago. Even now people still agree with him. Without other people, life became empty and sad. 1 .
For some of us, though making friends is not difficult, we may not want to make the first move. It is also difficult at times to keep the friends we already have.
There are many books about friendship, but Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People, written in 1936, is the most famous. 2 . It was later put into 28 languages.

Step3 Consolidation
Deal with some similar exercises to consolidate what we have learnt during this period. Cooperative work in groups to analyse the passage by using these methods.

The next time you go into a bank,a store,or a supermarket,stop and listen.What do you hear 1 It is similar to the music you listen to,but it's not exactly the same.That's because this music was especially designed to relax you,or to give you extra energy.Sometimes you don't even realize the music is playing,but you react to the music anyway.
Quiet background music used to be called "elevator music" because we often heard it in elevators,but lately we hear it in more and more places,and it has a new name Muzak.About one-third of the people in America listen to Muzak every day.The music plays for 15 minutes at a time,with short pauses in between.It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning,and between three and four in the afternoon,when people are more tired. 2 .

5 They say it is boring to hear the same songs all the times.But others enjoy hearing Muzak in public places.They say it helps them relax and feel calm.One even say their cows give more milk when they hear Muzak!
