There really are apps for everything-and some could end up saving your life.
Skin Vision
You will have to pay for this digital skin check app, either on an ad hoc (随时) or a subscription basis, but with an estimated fifth of skin cancers going undiagnosed during lockdown, it could be well worth it. You simply take a photo of any suspicious spot with your phone and you'll then receive a risk indication from Skin Vision within 30 seconds.
St John Ambulance First Aid
An app like this is more useful for saving someone else's life than your own, but arguably it's a necessity on your smartphone. It gives advice in dealing with emergencies, including choking, allergic reactions and performing CPR. You don't have to have an internet connection in order to use it.
What 3words
This free download is one of a growing number of smartphone apps that could mean the difference between life and death. What 3Words divides the world into 3×3 metre squares, giving each one a unique combination of three words. This allows emergency services-or anyone else you give the location to-to reach you. Used by the vast majority of emergency services in the UK, not to mention other control centres around the world, it has been credited with saving thousands of lives.
WhatsApp
Lots of us use WhatsApp for messaging and calling, but do you know it also has a Live Location feature that can let a loved one know your whereabouts in case you' re in danger You simply press the +key in a chat, select "Location", and then press "Share Live Location", which enables any participants in the chat to see your location in real time for the duration you choose.

Maya Lin, designer and sculptor, has created some of the most iconic works and spaces with the belief that art can address important issues. Her latest projects are no different, from museums to sculptures for Presidential centers.
Lin, 62, grew up in Ohio, the daughter of college professors who were Chinese immigrants. As a 21-year-old student at Yale University, she gained national fame when her entry won a design competition for the new Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Her winning design — two black granite (花岗岩) walls carved with the names of US service members who died in the Vietnam War (1954-1975) or remain missing — is considered one of the most influential in modern architecture.
Lin went on to design the 1989 Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama, and dozens of other projects globally, all with social and environmental justice in mind. She told The Wall Street Journal she uses facts in her art. She said, “I am going to present you with what the story is, but I am not going to draw the conclusion for you.” Currently underway is Lin’s plan for the new Museum of Chinese in America in New York City. Lin said she wants it to be a celebration of Chinese American stories and contributions to the country.
Lin is also designing a sculpture to honor former President Barack Obama’s mother, who died in 1995, at the Obama Presidential Center in Illinois. When Obama awarded Lin the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, he called her work “physical acts of poetry, each reminding us that the most important element in art or architecture is human emotion.”
24. What is Maya Lin’ principle to make her creation
A. Art is to lead to reputation. B. Art is a physical act of poetry.
C. Art can be a way to address affairs. D. Art is to create something distinguished.
25. What is expressed in her work for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
A. The influence of the Vietnam War on America.
B. US soldiers’ sacrifice in the Vietnam War.
C.The bloody and cruel scenes of the Vietnam War.
D. Vietnamese soldiers’ fearless fight in the Vietnam War.
26. Where will the sculpture of Barack Obama’s mother be housed
A. Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.
B. Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama.
C. Obama Presidential Center in Illinois.
D. Museum of Chinese in America in New York City.
27. Which of the following best suits the topic of the passage
A. Stirring up emotions in art B. Designing with talents
C. Becoming a great Chinese immigrant D. Creating the most influential architecture

Following the crowd may not always be in a person’s best interest. But new research suggests that teens who go along with their friends may end up healthier as adults.
Scientists have known that close friendships do good to health. That’s true for both teens and adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health.
So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens’ closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each person’s overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data they found a strong connection between a teen’s behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to a close friends also influenced later health. Those who held back were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health. Weight, family income and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did.
Going along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to do better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead to some kids’ risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge, Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldn’t lose heart for not finding this easy.” And, he adds, “Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.”
28. Which column does the passage probably come from
A. Sports.B. HealthC. Fashion. D. Entertainment.
29. Which of the following is the closest to the underlined word “drawbacks”
A. challenges.B. mistakes.C. influences. D. disadvantages.
30. According to what Allen said, we can know that ________.
A. in order to do better at school, teens should not follow the crowd
B. teens take up smoking, drinking or using drugs facing peer pressure
C. despite the challenges in peer pressure, teens should not give up
D. parents should understand their teens and stop them going with friends
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. It is not easy to get along with peers.
B. Teen friendships may make healthier adults.
C. It is important to deal with teens’ pressure.
D. Adults should pay attention to teens’ health.

Grizzly bears, which may grow to about 2.5 m long and weigh over 400 kg, occupy a conflicted corner of the American psyche — we revere (敬畏) them even as they give us frightening dreams. Ask the tourists from around the world that flood into Yellowstone National Park what they most hope to see, and their answer is often the same: a grizzly bear.
“Grizzly bears are re-occupying large areas of their former range,” says bear biologist Chris Servheen. As grizzly bears expand their range into places where they haven’t been seen in a century or more, they’re increasingly being sighted by humans.
The western half of the US was full of grizzlies when Europeans came, with a rough number of 50,000 or more living alongside Native Americans. By the early 1970s, after centuries of cruel and continuous hunting by settlers, 600 to 800 grizzlies remained on a mere 2 percent of their former range in the Northern Rockies. In 1975, grizzlies were listed under the Endangered Species Act.
Today, there are about 2,000 or more grizzly bears in the US. Their recovery has been so successful that the US Fish and Wildlife Service has twice attempted to delist grizzlies, which would loosen legal protections and allow them to be hunted. Both efforts were overturned due to lawsuits from conservation groups. For now, grizzlies remain listed.
Obviously, if precautions (预防) aren’t taken, grizzlies can become troublesome, sometimes killing farm animals or walking through yards in search of food. If people remove food and attractants from their yards and campsites, grizzlies will typically pass by without trouble. Putting electric fencing around chicken houses and other farm animal quarters is also highly effective at getting grizzlies away. “Our hope is to have a clean, attractant-free place where bears can pass through without learning bad habits,” says James Jonkel, longtime biologist who manages bears in and around Missoula.
32. How do Americans look at grizzlies
A. They cause mixed feelings in people.B. They should be kept in national parks.
C. They are of high scientific value.D. They are a symbol of American culture.
33. What has helped the increase of the grizzly population
A. The European settlers’ behavior.B. The expansion of bears’ range.
C. The protection by law since 1975.D. The support of Native Americans.
34. What has stopped the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service from delisting grizzlies
A. The opposition of conservation groups.B. The successful comeback of grizzlies.
C. The voice of the biologists.D. The local farmers’ advocates.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Food should be provided for grizzlies.B. People can live in harmony with grizzlies.
C. A special path should be built for grizzlies.
D. Technology can be introduced to protect grizzlies.

第二节写作(共1题,满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My dad, George, only had an eighth grade education. A quiet man, he didn’t understand my world of school activities. From age 14, he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.
I didn’t really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and I thought that I would surpass (超过) anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.
Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone (长号).
The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed which we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs, lamb’s-quarters, foxtails, and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn’t sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, “A job’s a big step to growing up. I’m glad you will be contributing to the household.” My dad’s words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn’t interested. I decided it was not fair that I had to contribute my money.

【答案】Dear Headmaster,
We have been asked about our opinions on opening iPad classrooms. I am in favor of this plan for the following reasons. To begin with, everyone learns differently. Students can customize their iPad with materials that fit their level and learning style, and thus tailor it to different needs. Moreover, when connected to the Internet, students can interact with teachers and classmates about how they learn more conveniently.
For the sake of environmental protection, opening iPad classrooms is a good way to save trees that we have been cutting down for paper. Most importantly, I believe students will develop their interests in the subjects by enjoying a new way of learning.
I hope you would take my ideas into consideration and we look forward to attending an iPad class.
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】When I brought my payback home — it was $119 — my dad wanted to talk to me. He told me to wait in the living room for a while. Silence reigned in the room. I sat on the sofa, eyes glued to the money I earned. I kept digging in my mind for words to argue with dad if he announced that the money wasn’t mine. Just then, the door opened and in came my dad. The moment he sat down beside me, I gripped the paycheck more firmly, ready to argue. However, he gently placed his right hand on my shoulder and said, “I know you have grown up a lot through your work …” Then there was a long pause. He withdrew his hand and slowly continued, “You deserve the money and the money is yours now.”
I was surprised that my dad allowed to use the money as I wished. In the blink of an eye, numerous fun activities I could do presented themselves to me. I sprang to my feet and kept jumping, still wild with joy and astonishment. On that day, after calculating my budget, I went to the local store and bought many things I wanted — a new football, a baseball bat and a pair of sneakers and so on. Better yet, the idea of giving back to the farmer and working more popped into my mind. At exactly that moment, I realized why my father let me have the money — it was his expectation for my future, his encouragement and quiet love. And that was something I might never surpass.

M: The summer vacation in New Delhi begins in May 1st every year. Much before it began we started planning how to spend it. I suggested that we should go to Shillong. But my sister insisted that we see Darjeeling. My father decided that we would go to both places with one month’s stay at each place.
So, it was decided that we would be going first to Shillong and then to Darjeeling. We left the New Delhi Railway Station four days after the vacation began. It was a very long and tiring journey. The train reached Guwahati in the evening.
The next day, early in the morning we drove to Shillong. We stayed there for nearly a month in the hotel. The climate was no doubt cool and pleasant, but there were very few places of interest.
We left Shillong on June 4th. On our way to Darjeeling, we traveled by train. We saw thick forests and beautiful tea gardens. We reached Darjeeling at about noon. We took a taxi and went to a hotel where reservations had been earlier arranged by my father. One day we went to the Tiger Hills by taxi at 4 a.m. to enjoy the famous sunrise. It was a wonderful sight which we had never seen before. And that was the last day of our vacation.
