In December 2004, I had just become a professional photographer and was working on a project about the Chao-Ley tribe on a small island in southern Thailand.
One morning, I was due to 1 with a group of six Chao-Ley fishermen in a small boat. The sea was totally 2 .
About 20 minutes after our departure, one of the fishermen pointed to a small white spot far in the distance. It was getting bigger and bigger very quickly. This was a tsunami wave 3 through the ocean like a tornado. We were 4 . I began to feel really 5 .
At some point the captain took control. He told the six of us where to sit, so we would 6 the boat. My __7__ was in my backpack. I wanted to 8 the scene, but I couldn't. Any 9 would imbalance the boat.
Suddenly there was a huge noise. The giant wave hit the boat, but in the split second of 10 , the incredibly skilled captain 11 to swerve(使突然转向) us up and onto the wave. We 12 it for a few seconds. Then the boat glided from the 13 of the wave down into safe waters.
I've been going back to Southeast Asia almost every year since. The 14 I wanted to take on the boat remains "the one that got away"—I think every photographer has one. But mine 15 my life.

One day, I experienced something that caused me to lose my temper, to the point that I was in tears. So frustrated was I that I reached out to a dear and 1 friend to ask for advice on how to let go of 2 . And then, I went for a long walk.
As I walked, I 3 my anger and what may have caused it. I heard my friend's voice saying "drop into the heart space", a space that love booms and if we allow it, it will 4 our hurts. It is my 5 that hate cannot grow where love 6 . I allowed my mind to follow that love and to review what the 7 of my anger was. I realized my anger is the result of many emotions that are normal.
There is a 8 of being overwhelmed, frustrated, tired and there is sorrow 9 as well. And perhaps the sorrow is the biggest one. For example, it is not easy to 10 a parent's falling weak even when I recognize that it is part of the cycle of life. I had not acknowledged my sorrow until a friend 11 that it was part of my anger, and she was correct. I am grateful for having friends I can reach out to for 12 and comfort.
I am now able to 13 my anger, to drop into the heart space, to send out love and light, and to let go of any frustration rather than to 14 my anger. I know it will get easier if I am 15 with myself and allow the healing that is needed to happen.

It so happened that when I 1 the double doors of a small storage area in the back of my house where I 2 my garden supplies during the long, severe New England winter, I found, in one of the dirt-filled pots, a living, growing plant, topped with two of the most unlikely pink 3 you've ever seen.
How was this 4 The unheated space had been closed all winter, and it was still cold outside. Once I caught my breath, I 5 and discovered something approaching a reasonable explanation—there was a small glass window at the top of the double doors, and it was possible that a ray of sun fell directly on that pot, giving the plant just enough light and warmth to 6 it to grow in its own personal greenhouse.
I can't help feeling 7 at the lessons this wonderful plant teaches.
For one thing, I am moved by the happenstance(巧合) of the whole thing. If I had 8 my pot six inches to the left or right of that spot, the plant might not have gotten that 9 ray of light. If I had 10 the roots of the plant in late fall, there would have been nothing but dirt in that pot.
But there's something else that 11 me about this—just how little light and 12 it took for this plant to grow and flower. When it comes to the positivity, a little goes a long way. Just ask my little miracle plant.
