W: OK. It was founded in the early 19th century, but it was damaged in 1941. Then a few decades later, City Council collected money to fund a new museum. This money was awarded to the museum in 2004, but it wasn’t until four years later that the restored museum opened to the public.
M: What a history!
W: As you can see, there are several galleries. The gallery on your left is called “World View”. It changes periodically. It’s now about African culture. It’ll look at Asia next year.

It’s called “Moving Arena". It’s actually a giant map of the city that you can walk on. This is the main reason why the museum is so popular.

W: Well, the Wi-Fi has improved a lot. It makes it easier for me to work even if the room isn’t big enough.
M: That’s the first time today anyone’s mentioned that. It’s good to get some positive feedback on that.
W: Mmm.
M: And, is there anything you weren’t satisfied with
W: Well, normally, the trains run on time and are pretty reliable but today it was 15 minutes late.
M: OK. I’ll put that down. Now I’d also like to ask about the facilities at this station. You’ve probably noticed that. Can you say something
W: I think the best thing is that they’ve improved the amount of information about train times that’s given to passengers — before there was only one board. But now there is an electronic display panel. Every time I walk to the platform, I can clearly and quickly know when my train will come.
M: That’s good. Anything else
W: Let’s see... One thing is that there aren’t enough places to sit down, especially on the platforms.
M: OK — so I’ll put ‘seating’ down. Thanks for your time.

18.Which program is the speaker working on
A.Bargain Hunt. B.Home Cooking. C.Country File.

A.Adapting a story for the film. B.Dealing with the music. C.Working at night.
20.What do we know about the speaker
A.She is positive. B.She is changeable. C.She is pessimistic.
【答案】17.A 18.C 19.B 20.A
As a little girl, I dreamt of getting into filming. I worked in a shop just after graduation. Then a friend got me a temporary job for a company doing films. One day, I saw a post for a person to be a runner working for a TV program. I thought that was the perfect opportunity. I was delighted when I got it. Now I’ve been a director for about twelve years. I’ve done a number of different programs, like Bargain Hunt and Home Cooking, but at the moment I’m working on a nature program called Country File. The hardest part of the job is getting the music together. When you find a piece of music that goes with the film then you create the right atmosphere and it totally brings the film alive. There’s so much variety in my job and I’m always learning about new things. Last year, I did a writing course. It really made sense to me. Not long ago, I did a film about some rare birds and we had to use new technology to film at night. I prefer to learn from experience by trying something out. I try new things to discover my potential, and try to adjust myself to the social environment and improve myself step by step.

This fall marks a new beginning for the hundreds of students walking onto a small Midwest college campus, but it’s an especially memorable time for one family. It celebrates three generations starting the new school year together.
Samantha Malczewski, 19, said that when she learned her mom and her grandmother would be joining her and her younger sister Mia Carter, 18, at Carthage College this fall, her eyes were wide open.
“I was clearly already admitted, and Mia was also admitted. And then all of a sudden, they were like, ‘Oh, we’re going too,’” Samantha recalled. “I didn’t expect it.”
Mia said she had an inkling (略知) that their mom and grandmother were interested in going back to school.
“My great-grandma just passed away and I think my mom had the realization that your mom’s not always gonna be there ... and I think it’s just the fact of them simply going to the same classroom every day and just gaining another aspect of spending time together,” the freshman accounting and marketing student said.
Her mom Amy Malczewski had worked at Carthage College for the last 22 years. She said she “always” knew she wanted to enroll (注册) as a student herself though. “I have a little time now. I’m like, you know what, I should get that graduate degree I’ve always wanted. And Carthage has this amazing master’s degree in business and design and innovation, which is really in line with all the things that I love,” said Amy.
Meanwhile, when Christy Schwan heard of her daughter’s plan, she quickly realized they could set on the journey together. The 71-year-old had retired three years before. She said she was drawn to learning about change management.
Amy and Christy are now classmates, studying for master’s degrees in business, design and innovation. Both nontraditional students say they encourage their peers (同龄人) to go for it if they’re also considering going back to school. “My advice to anybody is just, life is so short and if there’s something that you’re interested in, and maybe you’re doubting yourself a little bit, put that doubt aside and just go for it,” Amy said. “Especially if you have somebody that can do it with you, I think it makes it even sweeter, right ”
24.How did Samantha feel when she learned the news
A.Upset. B.Surprised. C.Excited. D.Worried.
25.What did Mia think was the reason that her mom and grandmom went back to school together
A.They wanted to have a richer life.
B.They wanted to fit in with younger groups.
C.They wanted to spend more time with each other.
D.They wanted to learn more about accounting and marketing.
26.Which of the following can best describe Amy Malczewski
A.Strong and devoted. B.Persistent and brave.
C.Positive and knowledgeable. D.Responsible and professional.
27.What does Amy suggest people do in the last paragraph
A.Treasure family. B.Go to university.
C.Don’t waste time. D.Go for their dreams.
根据第二段“Samantha Malczewski, 19, said that when she learned her mom and her grandmother would be joining her and her younger sister Mia Carter, 18, at Carthage College this fall, her eyes were wide open.(19岁的Samantha Malczewski说,当她得知妈妈和祖母将于今年秋天与她和18岁的妹妹Mia Carter一起进入迦太基学院时,她睁大了眼睛。)”
根据第五段“‘My great-grandma just passed away and I think my mom had the realization that your mom’s not always gonna be there ... and I think it’s just the fact of them simply going to the same classroom every day and just gaining another aspect of spending time together,’ the freshman accounting and marketing student said.(这位会计和市场营销专业的大一学生说,‘我的曾祖母刚刚去世,我想我妈妈已经意识到你妈妈不会一直在那里……我认为这只是他们每天都去同一间教室,只是从另一个方面获得了在一起的时间。’)”可知,Mia认为她妈妈和祖母一起回学校的原因是他们想花更多的时间和对方在一起。故选C项。
26.推理判断题。根据第六段“Her mom Amy Malczewski had worked at Carthage College for the last 22 years. She said she ‘always’ knew she wanted to enroll (注册) as a student herself though. ‘I have a little time now. I’m like, you know what, I should get that graduate degree I’ve always wanted. And Carthage has this amazing master’s degree in business and design and innovation, which is really in line with all the things that I love,’ said Amy.(她的妈妈Amy Malczewski在迦太基学院工作了22年。她说她‘一直’知道自己想报名成为一名学生。Amy说:‘我现在有一点时间了。我想,你知道吗,我应该获得我一直想要的研究生学位。而迦太基在商业、设计和创新方面拥有令人惊叹的硕士学位,这真的符合我所热爱的一切。’)”可知,Amy Malczewski是执着勇敢的。故选B项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Amy and Christy are now classmates, studying for master’s degrees in business, design and innovation. Both nontraditional students say they encourage their peers (同龄人) to go for it if they’re also considering going back to school. ‘My advice to anybody is just, life is so short and if there’s something that you’re interested in, and maybe you’re doubting yourself a little bit, put that doubt aside and just go for it,’ Amy said. ‘Especially if you have somebody that can do it with you, I think it makes it even sweeter, right ’( Amy和Christy现在是同学,攻读商业、设计和创新的硕士学位。两位非传统学生都表示,如果他们的同龄人也在考虑重返校园,他们会鼓励他们这么做。‘我对所有人的建议是,生命如此短暂,如果你对某件事感兴趣,也许你会有点怀疑自己,那就把怀疑放在一边,放手去做。尤其是如果有人能和你一起做这件事,我觉得会更甜蜜,对吧 ’)”可知,Amy建议人们去追求他们的梦想。故选D项。
C
Bird expert James Zook has been collecting records on nearly 430 kinds of tropical birds on farms and natural forests in Central America for 18 years. While birds do best in natural rainforests, Zook said some species usually found in forests can establish populations in “diversified farms”.
“In these diversified farms, you see growth over the long term in bird species with specialized needs, which include safe and protected areas from the sun for birds to build their homes and different kinds of food sources. Besides, that kind of farming is very different to industrial agriculture or agriculture where only one crop like pineapple or bananas are planted,” said Nicholas Hendershot in a recent study.
University of California environmental scientist Natalia Ocampo-Penuela, who was not involved in the study, notes that the research provides rare detailed data over a long period, demonstrating that diversified farming can support forest bird populations.
The study reveals that 75 percent of the 305 bird species found in diversified farms showed stable or growing populations over the study period. This includes birds like the collared aracari and members of the manakin family known for their complex mating dances.
Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center scientist Ruth Bennett, although not involved in the research, said, “It’s a huge contribution to have documented that some birds aren’t just going there, but staying there and populations are growing.”
Still, such safe environments, called habitats, do not balance out overall population losses from the creation of large industrial farms from natural forests, the writers warned. Zook compared a large pineapple farm to a “bird desert.”
Increasingly, scientists say saving species will require paying attention to areas affected by humans, not just untouched areas. Ocampo-Penuela says that conservation efforts should extend beyond protected areas to areas where some species can live.
28.What does Nicholas Hendershot say about diversified farms
A.They only provide protected areas for nesting.
B.They support the long-term growth of bird species.
C.They are more beneficial than natural rainforests for birds.
D.They are essential for the survival of endangered bird species.
29.What does Zook focus on in the study
A.The impact of industrial agriculture on bird populations.
B.The life patterns of tropical birds in natural rainforests.
C.The population growth of bird species in diversified farms.
D.The complex mating dances of birds in natural rainforests.
30.What can we infer about large industrial farms in Paragraph 6
A.They protect bird populations from human activities.
B.They have no negative impact on bird populations.
C.They offer bird populations safe environments.
D.They lead to the decline of bird populations.
31.Where does the passage go next
A.Reasons for the loss of bird population in the forest.
B.Measures to save bird species in agricultural areas.
C.Ways to prevent human destruction to farms.
D.Facilities for all kinds of diversified farms.
根据第二段中Nicholas Hendershot说的话“In these diversified farms, you see growth over the long term in bird species with specialized needs, which include safe and protected areas from the sun for birds to build their homes and different kinds of food sources.(在这些多样化的农场里,你会看到有特殊需求的鸟类物种在较长时间内会增长,其中包括不被太阳晒到的安全庇护之地,供鸟类建造家园,以及不同种类的食物来源)”可知,他认为多样化的农场为鸟类的长期增长提供支持,故选B。
根据第一段中“While birds do best in natural rainforests, Zook said some species usually found in forests can establish populations in ‘diversified farms’.(虽然鸟类在天然雨林中生存繁殖最好,但Zook说,一些通常发现于森林中的物种可以在‘多样化农场’中建立种群)”可知,Zook在研究中主要关注多样化农场中鸟类物种的增长情况,故选C。
根据第六段中“Still, such safe environments, called habitats, do not balance out overall population losses from the creation of large industrial farms from natural forests, the writers warned.(尽管如此,作者警告说,这种被称为栖息地的安全环境并不能平衡从天然林中建立大型工业化农场所带来的总体数量损失)”可知,大型工业化农场会导致鸟类数量的减少,故选D。
根据最后一段“Increasingly, scientists say saving species will require paying attention to areas affected by humans, not just untouched areas. Ocampo-Penuela says that conservation efforts should extend beyond protected areas to areas where some species can live.(科学家们越来越多地表示,拯救物种需要关注受到人类影响的地区,而不仅仅是未受影响的地区。Ocampo-Penuela说,保护工作应该从保护区扩展到一些物种可以生活的地方)”可知,拯救鸟类物种需要关注受到人类影响的地区,保护工作应该从保护区扩展到一些物种可以生活的地方,故文章接下来应是谈论在农业区拯救鸟类物种的措施,故选B。
D
The needs of plus-size consumers have long been the elephant in the room of the fashion industry until body positivity and fat acceptance movements promoted the slogan that large-bodied people are not those who are left behind. This size-inclusive trend has become so popular that it is influencing mainstream culture. As a result, fashion brands have finally decided to extend their size ranges. In 2022, the plus-size market grew twice as fast as the standard size market in both North America and the UK.
Yet, many consumers say fashion brands broadening their ranges are not truly inclusive. “Inclusive sizing means that all bodies are included in fashion, not just the ones who fit in standard sizes,” says Marie Southard Ospina, a UK-based journalist who covers body-image issues. “However, what many designers do right now is pick a number that they think is big enough to include plus sizes and stop. This is even more disrespectful.”
Researchers also criticize that some brands are just taking advantage of the trend. “Brands that used to promote so-called perfect bodies in their advertisements are now trying to get in on the trend by adding a few sizes. It doesn’t feel like they really care about plus-size people,” says Tom Burgess, analyst in fashion industry. “If brands cared about large-bodied consumers, then it wouldn’t have taken until now to acknowledge that they exist,” he says. “It gives the impression that companies are just trying to gain a share of the market without a real commitment to the community.”
The fashion industry must go beyond merely producing clothing in a particular range of sizes if they hope to succeed with a body-diverse world. The whole industry has to connect on a personal level with consumers. That involves showing shoppers that they are seen, understood and important to brands. “Consumers care about values, and so they want to buy from brands that reflect the values they believe in. Everyone should enjoy the same range of fashion options,” says Ludovica Cesareo, professor of marketing at the College of Business in the US.
32.What do the underlined words “the elephant in the room” mean in the first paragraph
A.The hot issue that is valued. B.The obvious truth that is ignored.
C.The important principle that is recognized. D.The common phenomenon that is criticized.
33.According to Marie, consumers say some fashion brands are not truly inclusive because ________.
A.they pick sizes randomly B.they offer limited plus sizes
C.they treat designers disrespectfully D.they haven’t broadened standard sizes
34.For what do researchers mainly criticize some brands
A.Their designs. B.Their quality.
C.Their motivations. D.Their advertisements.
35.What does the last paragraph imply
A.Buyers deserve fashion that respects their values.
B.Consumers prefer brands with personalized styles.
C.Brands should catch up with the size-inclusive trend.
D.A good brand image is critical in the fashion industry.
【答案】32.B 33.B 34.C 35.A
根据文章划线短语后的内容“until body positivity and fat acceptance movements promoted the slogan (口号) that large-bodied people are not those who are left behind. (直到身体积极性和脂肪接受运动推动了这一口号,身材魁梧的人不应该被抛在后面。)”可知,新的口号的是身材魁梧的人不应该被抛诸脑后,故这些人原来一直是被忽视的。A. The hot issue that is valued有价值的热点问题;B. The obvious truth that is ignored被忽视的显而易见的事实;C. The important principle that is recognized公认的重要原则;D. The common phenomenon that is criticized被批评的常见现象。故选B。
根据文章第二段中““Inclusive sizing means that all bodies are included in fashion, not just the ones who fit in standard sizes,” says Marie Southard Ospina, a UK-based journalist who covers body-image issues. “However, what many designers do right now is pick a number that they think is big enough to include plus sizes and stop. This is even more disrespectful.”
根据文章第三段中““If brands cared about large-bodied consumers, then it wouldn’t have taken until now to acknowledge that they exist,” he says. “It gives the impression that companies are just trying to gain a share of the market without a real commitment to the community.”

Throughout our lives, we have encountered a lot of people that have influenced us in some sense. Their effect may be for one day or a lifetime. Often, you don’t realize how much influence someone has made on you until a particular moment. The man who made a big influence on me was my father.
Three months after turning fourteen, my life was great. I was getting settled into a high school; my grades were already getting better and I was making friends.
One day, when I got back from school, I went to the sitting room and saw my parents having a conversation. They came up to me and asked me to take a seat, because they wanted to say something very important. I soon found out that my dad’s liver(肝脏) was failing and he needed an immediate transplant(器官移植). I was surprised and bewildered(不知所措的) because my father looked all right. He worked, and he didn’t seem ill. My parents said I shouldn’t be afraid, because it was going to be all right. Four months had gone by, and my father had yet to get a new liver. It looked as if his body was steadily worsening, but he kept saying, “Dear, everything will be just fine.”
It was becoming difficult for me and my family. My father had to give up work, and my mother was the sole breadwinner(养家糊口的人). I had to bear the responsibilities of cleaning up the house making food, and looking after my father when my mother was at work. I had to limit my time with my friends, because my father started coming in and out of the hospital. My concentration on the subject was beginning to slip away. So were my grades. Two days before my school spring break, my mother got a phone call from the hospital, saying my father had an accident and was in hospital. What surprised me was that my father wasn’t injured at all. Then the next day, my mother got a phone call from the doctor saying that there was a liver that matched my dad’s body and that he needed to get to the hospital immediately.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;

I had to take on so many responsibilities at home.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My parents and I hurried to the hospital. My dad was taken to the operating room after all kinds of tests, leaving Mom and I waiting anxiously outside. Three hours’ waiting seemed like a life time during which my mother kept comforting me by saying, “Your dad said everything will be just fine!” When the door was pushed open and the doctor told us the good news, my mom burst into tears. Three weeks after that, my dad could leave the hospital, but he still needed extra attention at home, which I was responsible for, since my mom had to work outside every day.
I had to take on so many responsibilities at home. Household chores and the care for my dad took up most of my day, leaving little time for my studies. Though I was tired out every day after attending to my dad, I still tried to squeeze out some precious time to make up for some missing lessons till late night. Every day my dad told me the same thing, “Dear, everything will be just fine!” After six months, my dad made a full recovery and I graduated with the best grades in four years. Time has stolen so much of our family’s happiness, but it’s still the most important.“Dear, everything will be just fine!

A.The impact of industrial agriculture on bird populations.
B.The life patterns of tropical birds in natural rainforests.
C.The population growth of bird species in diversified farms.
D.The complex mating dances of birds in natural rainforests.
30.What can we infer about large industrial farms in Paragraph 6
A.They protect bird populations from human activities.

C.They offer bird populations safe environments.
D.They lead to the decline of bird populations.

1.续写词数应为 150左右;
My parents and I hurried to the hospital.
