There were two men who occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain (排除) the liquids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours every day. They spoke about their wives, families and their jobs. And every afternoon when the man by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened by all the activities and colors of the outside world.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm, and a fine view of the city could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all these in detail, the man on the other side of the room closed his eyes and imagined the beautiful scene.
One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window described it. Unexpectedly, a strange thought entered his head: Why could he look out of the window Why should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything It didn't seem fair.
As the thought developed, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy turned into hate and soon turned him sour. He began to find himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window and that thought now controlled his life.

One possible version:
Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, his roommate began to cough. The man by the window was choked by the liquids in his lungs. The other man watched it, as the man by the window tried to press the button to call for help. He never pushed his own button which would have called the nurse in. In less than five minutes, the coughing stopped, along with the sound of his own breathing. The following morning, the nurse called the hospital attendant to take the lifeless body away.
As soon as it seemed reasonable, the man asked the nurse if he could move next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the change and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. He moved slowly and painfully to take his first look. Finally, he would have the chance to see the outside world himself. He couldn't wait to look out of the window beside the bed. However, to his surprise, it faced a blank wall. He felt ashamed again and closed his eyes only to find his envy had changed him totally.

记叙文 职场新人 ★★★
As the President of Ariel Investments, I am often asked how to train green hands to be qualified for a new job within a short time. My memories take me straight back to the days when I worked for John W. Rogers.
While in college, I worked as an intern (实习生) at Ariel Investments. As the youngest girl of six kids from a single mom, I had very little knowledge of the business world. When I graduated, I decided to return to the company to improve myself.
At the age of 22, my thought was greatly influenced by lunching with the company's founder and then-president, John W. Rogers. He told me that I would often find myself in the company of rich and successful people with big titles, lots of degrees and lots of experience. And yet, my ideas could still be as good or even better, he said. This early advice became the guiding force that has helped me throughout my entire career. When I was starting out, I thought my inexperience was holding me back, but John said that it was a good thing. He told me that being inexperienced means that you have a fresh point of view.
As my tutor, John encouraged me to be brave. As my boss, he took some giant leaps of faith to support me. Because of our first lunch and the years of support that followed, I never thought twice about speaking up, raising my hand or taking a seat at the table. Staying in the background was never a choice. But John's advice came with one important warning. I needed to control my attitude. It's one thing to be firm but quite another to be rude. Similarly, there is a fine line between confidence and overconfidence. With that in mind, I have had to learn to balance the way I act around others. As someone once told me, “the goal is to be non-threatened and non-threatening at the same time.”
11.What was John's early advice for the author
A.Speaking out loudly.
B.Staying in the background.
C.Holding back overconfidence.
D.Learning from the experienced workmates.

A.She got a big title soon after graduation.
B.She once felt threatened in her workplace.
C.She used to never think twice before speaking.
D.She made her voice heard after following John's advice.
13.What important lesson does the author learn from his boss
A.Encouraging your employees to grow.
B.Keeping your attitude under control.
C.Letting your success be your honor.
D.Living a life with a high goal.
14.Who would probably benefit most from this article
A.Company bosses.
B.Experienced teammates.
C.Those new employees.
D.University professors.

说明文 “中国制造”产品 ★★★
It's holiday season and time for shopping. There are a bunch of items on your shopping lists ranging from small gifts, toys and festive decorations to Christmas and New Year cards. What's your first reaction to products labeled “Made in China” If you still tend to relate “Made in China” to poor quality, you need to update your ideas. China's ability to manufacture high-quality products has been recognized by a growing number of foreigners. It's a misunderstanding to associate low quality with “Made in China”.
Cameron Purdy, a Web user, says that China manufacturing poor-quality products does not mean it cannot manufacture high-quality products. He explains that the poor-quality products one buys in the US for example, are made in the quality that the American companies ask for. “The price that you pay for the product has no relationship with the cost of it,” suggested Purdy. “For example, for an item priced at $20 in the US, the cost of making it paid by the American company is usually less than $1.To guarantee the room for profit, the Chinese co-manufacturer spends less than $1 to produce the item.”
Amanda Wu, who lives in Shanghai, noted that many top brands have manufacturing factories located in China, and the most convincing example of China's manufacturing quality is Apple products. On the back of the iPhone, one can find the product is made in China—“Designed by Apple in California. Assembled (装备) in China”. Chinese and foreign Web users commented that some Chinese brands of products with good reputations around the world are Haier, Lenovo, GREE, Huawei and China Railway High-speed.
On the other hand, foreign misunderstandings can sometimes affect Chinese people's minds. For instance, when Chinese people travel abroad, some would still avoid buying products made in China. It's time for the world to stop relating “Made in China” to low-quality products. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
11.How does Purdy make his point more convincing
A.By using quotes.
B.By giving examples.
C.By making comparisons.
D.By doing lots of experiments.
12.How many Chinese brands of products are mentioned in paragraph 3
A.Four. B.Five.
C.Six. D.Seven.
13.When abroad, Chinese people don't buy Chinese products because of .
A.high price
B.low quality
C.less popularity
D.foreign misunderstanding
14.What is the main idea of the text
A.Chinese products are the best in the world.
B.How to improve the quality of Chinese products.
C.Chinese products don't mean poor quality.
D.How to tell apart the quality of Chinese products.
