On a class field trip, Alexis met the forester, Justin, who had been living in a wooden house in the forest over ten years. When learning Justin’s life, Alexis laughed at him with his friends.
During the field trip, Alexis and his classmates passed by an entrance to a cave. “This looks so cool!” Alexis exclaimed. He wanted to go inside the cave, but his teacher stopped him.
The next day, Alexis reached the cave with his four friends, only to find they couldn’t take their schoolbags through the entrance. One by one, the teenagers entered the cave and were amazed to see how wide it was from the inside. Albert picked a large stone up and hit one of the walls with it. “This place is so cool!” he laughed quietly before the rocks from the wall came falling.
“Watch out, Albert!” Alexis said and pulled Albert towards himself. The teenagers screamed in fear when they saw the rocks fall. They couldn’t see anything because of the dust floating in the air.
The friends were scared when they realized they were trapped in the cave. “HELP! WE ARE STUCK!” the teenagers started screaming for help, hoping someone would hear them.
Fate sent Justin to the cave. The forester picked berries every other day from the trees near the cave. While he was walking back to his house, five bright-colored schoolbags caught his attention. Then he approached the cave and shouted, “Hey! Who’s in there ”
“I’m Alexis ! I came here yesterday with my teacher! Help us, please! We are stuck!”
“Okay, calm down, children! I’ll help you out!” Justin said.

Justin quickly grabbed a shovel and a flashlight and rushed back to the cave’s entrance. Meanwhile, Alexis and his friends tried to stay calm. If you want to travel to a unique place to see some fall leaves, you might want to visit Mt. Koya in Japan. Koyasan is home to 117 temples(寺庙). In the fall, the Japanese maple (枫树) leaves turn deep red and orange colours. Among them are the 1,200-year-old temples and halls that were designed by Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism.
Visitors to Koyasan can spend the night at a temple. For dinner there is traditional Buddhist food called shojin-ryori. In the evening you can enjoy the gardens or relax in the baths before bed. The rooms have the paper doors typical of traditional Japanese buildings, often with a garden view. If you wake up early, there is a morning prayer(祈祷) at 6 a.m. and anyone can join before heading to breakfast.
In the centre of the temples is a cemetery(墓地). As you walk on the path you’ll see a deep well. The legend says that if you can see your face clearly in the water, you will live a long life. Further on there is a special stone which they say is as heavy as your crimes. You can try to lift it with one hand to see how heavy it is!
As you pass through the cemetery you will see some small stone men wearing bibs(围裙) and hats to keep them warm in the cold air. These are called Jizo, and they stay between Earth and the afterworld. They protect travellers, pregnant women, and also young children and babies before birth, during life, and after death. The reason they wear red bibs is because of their connection with the pronunciation of baby in Japanese.
Some of the monks at the temples speak English, and there are English-speaking guides who do tours of the cemetery, so you can practise your English on your trip.

While broccoli(花椰菜) is typically considered a safe vegetable for dog, there are still risks that you should know about.
Is broccoli healthy for dogs Generally, yes, broccoli is safe and even beneficial for your dog to eat, but it’s still a vegetable that you should only feed to your dog in moderation. When it comes to how healthy broccoli is for your dog, it has some benefits that you definitely want to take advantage of during snack time. Broccoli is filled with vitamins and minerals, low in calories and packed with fiber(纤维) to help the digestive(消化的) system. There’s a reason that it’s just as good for us as it is for dogs!
When giving your dog broccoli, it’s important that you always feed it to your dog plain—meaning you aren’t giving your dog broccoli that’s been seasoned or cooked in butter or oil. This is because spices(香料) and fats aren’t good for your dog and can cause an upset stomach.
Can dogs eat raw broccoli Broccoli given in its raw form is fine, but cooked broccoli is more widely recommended since it’s easier for a dog to digest. While raw broccoli still contains beneficial vitamins and minerals, it can also be more difficult to digest. Raw broccoli can also be tough to chew on. Cutting the broccoli into smaller pieces, whether cooked or raw, will be much easier on your dog and ensure it passes through their digestive tract more smoothly.
Of course, it’s always best to talk with your veterinarian before(兽医) adding new foods to your pup’s(幼狗仔) diet. Your vet can give you a good idea on how much and how often your dog can enjoy broccoli.
32. What can we know about broccoli according to paragraph 2
A. It isn’t good food for dogs. B. It’s safe food to feed dogs.
C. It’s only fit as snacks for dogs. D. It’s very rich in calories.
33. Why should we avoid feeding dogs with broccoli cooked in oil
A. It’s bad for stomach. B. It tastes very terrible.
C. It isn’t seasoned well. D. It looks very ugly.
34. Why is it better for dogs to eat cooked broccoli
A. Dogs will fall ill if eating raw broccoli.
B. Cooked broccoli contains more minerals.
C. Raw broccoli is hard for dogs to digest.
D. Dogs don’t like to chew on raw broccoli.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Can Dogs Eat Broccoli Safely B. Is Broccoli a Good Food

For most people traveling abroad, their first choice is probably to rush directly to tourist sights. For me, I find lots of joy in grocery shopping on holiday.
As a vegetarian, finding restaurants that meet my needs is not always easy abroad. 36 The first thing I do, after dropping my bags off, is to go to a grocery store. That enables me to cook breakfast in the morning without walking around for hours trying to find “vegan breakfast” near me.
The variety of foods attracts me every time I travel somewhere new. In Malta, I found the most delicious chocolate-filled cakes, the ones I would struggle to find even in the UK. 37 I was so delighted that I could enjoy such an unexpected treat. Another surprise was their selection of ice cream available even in the smallest grocery stores.
38 Looking for smoked tofu and corn pancakes turns into quite a mission whenever I visit Cluj-Napoca in Romania. There is usually only one variety of smoked tofu, sold in a very small tub (食品盒) and only in the cafeteria section. 39 That is because they are never available at the smaller ones.
Grocery shopping on holiday sounds unusual. But it means being involved in the day-to-day lives of a country’s citizens. I can pretend I am a local and put myself in their shoes. I can watch kids begging their parents for sweets, an international experience that needs no language, or watch couples pick up snacks and drinks for a party on a Friday night. 40
A. I ended up eating these every day for breakfast.
B. The challenge of finding food is interesting, too.
C. The smoked product is unique and specially packed.
D. So I always make sure to book a place with a kitchen.
E. It’s an act of understanding people as much as of buying food.
F. Corn pancakes always require a trip to the bigger grocery store.
G. By wandering around in a new country, I start to see what they value.

When we are little kids, birthday parties are important occasions. They are our time to shine, and we love everything about them: the balloons, the games, the cake, the gifts, and so on.
After reading cool stories about police officers solving mysteries, Allen Miller thought the police were awesome, hoping to become one of them! So, when he had to choose a theme for his seventh birthday party----he went with his favorite: the police! And all he wanted for his birthday party was a model police car. He excitedly invited some of his friends and anxiously waited for the day. Unfortunately, none of them could make it to the party due to various reasons.
Allen's mom Rachel wrestled wit the challenging decision: should she cancel the party and save Allen the embarrassment of an empty party room He had been looking forward to the party and talking about it daily, so it would break his heart to cancel it.
Officer Frank Smith, who had already planned with Rachel and agreed to show up at the party, heard from Rachel that it might be canceled due to low attendance. That's when he decided to save the day----he is a police officer after all! His duty is to serve and protect, and he decided to protect Allen from having a bad day, and serve him the most amazing seventh birthday party! Officer Smith got the whole local police to join in. “We like to be involved in our community. It's not just about enforcing (执行) the law. We like to be there in the good times as well,” he explained to Rachel.
On the day of Allen's party, Officer Smith picked up Rachel and Allen in his police car. The boy didn't know where they were going, but was excited. They stopped at Town Hall, and Officer Smith led them into the meeting room where a group of policemen were waiting to wish Allen a happy birthday.
