Javon was the shortest kid in the class. It had been that way since the third grade. He'd had to ask to get his gym locker changed so that he didn't have to struggle so much to reach it.For most kids, being short would be a problem, but Javon didn't let being short bother him at all.
That was Javon's attitude about most things except school work. And Javon had worked hard.By the middle of seventh grade, Javon was one of the top kids in the class. So,he hadn't been too concerned when Mr.T announced they were starting a new unit in math. For Javon, math used to be easy.He figured that since he had ten fingers,he could do most of it.But when Mr.T threw letters into math problems,he couldn't wrap his mind around using these letters.Mr.T had given them all sorts of rules for what to do when there were letters in math problems. But Javon couldn't remember what they all were and he didn't think he even understood the rules he did remember. Soon he was hopelessly lost in math class.Even worse,it was time for the class to take the chapter test.
The test was quite demanding. Javon was confused by the very first question. He was nervous and kept losing track of what he was doing. When the class period ended,he hadn't finished all of the problems.
The day came when the class finally got their papers back. Seeing"D"written in red ink on the corner of the paper,he felt desperate. In the seat next to him,Tyler sighed slightly, catching Javon's attention. He couldn't help but see the big,red "C"on Tyler's paper. He felt so upset.
When they started packing up to leave after class,Tyler accidentally told Javon he got extra time on the test.Upon hearing this, Javon burst out,“It was unfair!”He dropped his books, face hot.
Para1: At this very moment, Mr.T came up to see what happened to them.

Right then, Mr. T walked over to check on them. Javon, feeling upset, told him it wasn't fair that Tyler got more time on the test. Before Javon could go on, Mr. T quietly asked him to calm down and then listened to Tyler to get the whole picture. After understanding everything, Mr. T saw that Javon had gotten it wrong. He gently told Javon that Tyler had trouble reading, which meant he could have extra time, and that any student who needed it could get this help.
Eventually, Javon understood what a reading disorder was and how to ask for help. Seeing his mistake, he said sorry to the teacher and his friend for getting angry earlier. Mr. T, knowing that Javon, who was usually one of the best, had been having a hard time, didn't scold him but instead spoke kindly and patted him on the head. Feeling moved and a little embarrassed, Javon, with tears in his eyes, vowed to do better and get higher marks later on. As Javon showed his strong will, Mr. T smiled in a way that made the boy feel better and believe in him again.

Right then, Mr. T walked over to check on them. Seeing Javon's worry, he gave a kind smile, put a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder, and said in a soft voice, "It's okay, Javon. Don't be too upset with yourself. Remember, I'm here to help when you need it." After spending a little time with Mr. T, Javon's confusion went away. He was able to figure out the problems with his teacher's help. Thankful, Javon looked up with tears in his eyes, filled with a strong feeling of gratitude for Mr. T's help. With a warm hug, Mr. T cheered him on, "You're smart, Javon. The problem you're having is just a small mistake when you look at letters."
As time went on, Javon understood what a reading disorder was and how to ask for help. As he kept learning, he got past his reading troubles and learned to get help from his teachers without being shy. Touched by Mr. T's kindness, Javon's grades got much better. He didn't just get an "A" but also became caring and willing to help, just like his teacher. When he thought about his time at school, Javon always saw Mr. T as the person who changed his life a lot. It was Mr. T's kindness and patience that really changed Javon's direction.

At this very moment, Mr. T came up to see what happened to them. Seeing Mr. T, Javon let out his anger, asking why Tyler had more time for the test. "It's just not fair!" he shouted, his hands tight and his breathing fast. The sadness from his math score and what he thought was unfair treatment was too much for him. Mr. T listened well, then put a calming hand on Javon's shoulder. "Take a deep breath, my boy," he said. "Tyler's case is different. He has trouble with reading, which means he needs more time to understand written words. That's why he got more time. If you're having issues with math, I'm here to help you."
Eventually, Javon understood what a reading disorder was and how to ask for help. His face felt hot with shame for his earlier anger. "I'm sorry," he said softly. "I was just so worried about my math. I used to be good at it." Mr. T nodded, with sympathy. "It's normal for students to have problems when they start seeing letters in math. With practice, you'll learn it." From then on, Javon began to study the new math with Mr. T's help. He worked hard, and after a while, the letters in the problems started to make sense. Tyler also got better at reading. They both learned a key lesson: with patience and practice, any challenge can be beaten.
