So for these students, do you think it is easy or difficult to get to school Show some pictures of students in poor villages getting to school and talk about whether it’s easy or difficult. T:If you don’t have a clear answer, look at these pictures. These students live in poor villages in China. How do they get to school Is easy or difficult for them to get to school Of course, it's really difficult. Then let’s watch a video to see how difficult it is. T: In this video, how does this girl get to school The girl goes on a ropeway to cross a river to school. It is so dangerous. Can she walk to school No, she can’t. Because there is no bridge. Can she take a boat No, she can’t. Because the river runs too quickly for boats. She has a brother. The little boy wants to go to school and play with kids. So he is not afraid to go on a ropeway. But at the end of the story, the girl has gone. The boy is so sad and really wants to have a bridge. Not only the boy, but also the villagers. It is their dream to have a bridge between their school and the village. Step 3 While-reading ⅠFast reading Read the passage and find out what the type is. T: This story caught the eye of reporters. A reporter interviewed a student there and wrote a passage. Now let’s read this passage. Please tell me what the type of the passage is. Is this an ad, a piece of news or a poster Yes, it is news. You can see the date. And the news is about student life. Read the passage and choose the best title. T: We know that news often has a title. Can you choose a best title for it The picture can help you to find the title quickly. It can tell you something about the passage. Now look at the picture. What can you see here Yes, you can see two boys over a big river. They are on a ropeway and on their back you can see the schoolbags. They are going to school! Which one do you think is the best title for this news Yes, we choose B, crossing the river to school. Read and match each paragraph with its main idea. T: After reading, we can easily find there are 3 paragraphs. What is the main idea of each one Please read the passage again. Match each paragraph with the main idea. Paragraph 1 is about the fact that students cross the river to school. Paragraph 2 tells us about the story of Liangliang. And paragraph 3 is about the dream of students and villagers. Ⅱ Careful reading Read Para. 1 and fill in the blanks. T: From this paragraph, we know it is difficult for them to get to school. Why There are three reasons. There is a very big river between their school and the village. This is one reason. What’s more There’s no bridge and the river runs too quickly for boats. So there is only one way for them to get to school. They go on a ropeway to cross the river to school. Read Para. 2 and complete the chart. T: Liangliang is an eleven-year-old boy. He lives in a small village in China. He goes on a ropeway to school. But he is not afraid. Because he loves school. And his teacher. He’s like a father to him. T: Why does Liangliang say “He’s like a father to me.” Maybe his teacher is very nice and kind to him. And think about his father. Maybe his father goes really far away to make money for the whole family. Liangliang misses his father and from his teacher, he can feel the love. Read Para. 3 and think about the questions. T: Their dream is to have a bridge. Do you think their dream can come true Different people have different ideas. But I think their dream can come true. Because many students will go to college and they will learn more knowledge. At last, they will come back to build a bridge. Also, the local government may help them do this, too. We know it’s so difficult for them to go to school. Why do they still persist in going to school Because only in this way can they make their dream come true. And what can we do to help them We can raise money or tell more people to let others know about them and help them to build a bridge. Step 4 Post-reading ⅠAn interview Finish the interview between the reporter and the student. T: Time files. Now it’s 2023. And there is a bridge across the river. The children do not have to go on the ropeway to get to school anymore. Imagine you are a reporter and want to interview a student in the school. What will you say Please complete the conversation.
