  If your pencil box is broken, the batteries in your flashlights run out, or you have some leftover food, how will you deal with these things You will probably throw them all into one rubbish bin. But actually, we need to sort(分类) all the rubbish separately.
  A new rubbish sorting system has been put into use in Zixinhuating Community in Hangzhou. Local people not only sort their rubbish, but also put QR codes(二维码) on it.
  In Hangzhou, every family is provided with three rubbish bins-the grey lid bin for “recycling” like steel and glass, and the green lid bin for “green waste” such as grass and leaves and the red lid bin for harmful waste, like batteries. On the streets, the bins are printed with pictures of the things that are allowed inside. It makes recycling quite easy.
  “When the QR codes are seen, the bin will open by itself and I just throw the rubbish in it. Then I will get reward points to exchange for small gifts and even some money. It's really creative and encouraging,”one of the local people told reporters.
  This smart system has also been carried out in 350 communities in Beijing. Other cities in China have joined Beijing to take action to support rubbish sorting. For example, Shenzhen and Shanghai have made rules to punish people and organizations for not sorting rubbish correctly.
  China produces quite a lot of rubbish every year. Much of the rubbish is buried(埋) in soil or burned without being sorted. Landfills take up a lot of land and have a risk of polluting the soil and water nearby. And burning rubbish can produce harmful gases. Through rubbish sorting, we can reduce the use of landfills and air pollution. What's more, rubbish sorting saves resources, which can bring economic advantages.

  The “prairies” are seagrasses. Together with mangroves and coral reefs, seagrasses are widely considered as one of the three typical marine coastal ecosystems(海洋沿海生态系统) in the world. Growing in coastal bays, seagrasses used to be rich. But because of the coastal development, the pollution from dirty water and sea farming, they have become fewer and fewer.
  “Seagrasses are the only flowering plants that grow in ocean environment and provide habitats for the creatures and plants that live in the sea, ” said Professor Zhang. “Seagrasses are as meaningful to marine life as prairies are to cows and sheep, ” added Zhang.
  Zhang formed the team in Qingdao for a seagrass restoration project in 2006.The team's first step was to get basic knowledge of how seagrasses grow. The team developed technology to plant seagrasses and found ways to restore seagrass beds.
  Swan Lake in Weihai was the first place for the team's research. Now, more seagrasses have greatly improved water quality and increased the number of birds and shellfish around the lake. And nearly 10, 000 swans spend the winter there every year, creating amazing scenes for tourists and photographers. “The swans used to eat crops near the lake, but as more seagrasses grew, they mainly lived in the lake and did not feed on the crops anymore, ” said a man.
  The team's footsteps have now reached major coastal cities in Shandong Province and in Tangshan, Hebei Province, with over 130 km of coastal bays now covered with seagrasses.
