What is the worst disease to suffer from Many people might say it is cancer(癌症). Cancer kills millions of people every year. Scientists have worked for decades on a way to beat cancer. A lot of progress has been made in this field.
语篇类型:说明文 主题:人与社会·有效的治疗法 难度: 词数:305 用时:7分钟
James P. Allison from the US and Tasuku Honjo from Japan discovered a kind of cancer treatment that earned them the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This treatment can make our immune systems(免疫系统) strong enough to effectively fight cancer cells. It is hoped that this treatment can be used to treat most cancers in the future.
This is not the only recent improvement in cancer treatment. In November 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) introduced a new cancer drug called Vitrakvi. Instead of being effective only for treating specific types of cancer, this drug can be used to treat 17 different kinds of cancer, including lung cancer and breast cancer, USA Today reported.
Finding cancer as early as possible is the best way to beat it. To check people for cancer, doctors must collect tissue(组织) from a patient's tumor(肿瘤) and test it. This process can take a long time. But in December 2018, scientists from Australia's University of Queensland developed a simple way to test cancer in a patient's blood. It takes less than 10 minutes and is about 90 percent correct, The Guardian reported.
With all of these treatments, cancer can be effectively controlled. Honjo believes most kinds of cancer will become treatable by 2050. “Even if we cannot completely make the tumor disappear, we can survive while still having part of the tumor,” Honjo said at a press meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, in December. Maybe people will not be afraid of cancer in the future with the achivement in this field.

Do you know about Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD) And do you know how to deal with it
语篇类型:说明文 主题:人与自我·应对季节性情绪失调 难度: 词数:252 用时:11分钟
Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression(抑郁) that starts in the winter months. Unlike other types of depression, it may improve as spring comes on. So you'll feel depressed every winter and begin to feel better each spring. ①
Seasonal Affective Disorder is far more common in northern areas of the Earth, because days there can be brief in winter. And nights last for a longer time.② SAD has more effects on women than men and is more likely to happen to people under age 40 than those older than that.
But how could we deal with SAD Sit in the sun more often, especially in the morning. If the weather is fine, take a walk. In your home or office, try sitting close to a window that faces south.
Studies have shown that taking more exercise can help deal with SAD. Walking, riding a bike, or swimming is a great way to get started.③ Other activities, including daily housework, Yoga and Tai Chi, can also help raise your heart rate(率) and protect you from depression.
Eat more vitamin D-rich foods such as egg yolks, soy milk, cheese and seafood. Researchers found that low vitamin D levels could cause depression. The Vitamin D Council recommends 2, 000 international units of vitamin D a day, but if you get a little sun, you should take more.

Very dangerous heat again today!
As you can see on the heat map in Guangdong, most of the areas are red in summer, which means a high risk for many people. If the colour is orange, it means the heat is not so serious. Yellow means the risk is even lower.
Why is it so dangerous
Heat in Guangdong's summer becomes especially dangerous if it lasts for more than one day. Hot days and warm nights can't let our bodies cool down.
Heat island effect in cities on hot days can cause many problems, such as heat cramps and heatstroke(中暑), and may lead to illnesses or even death.
How should we deal with heat
*Wear light and lose-fitting clothing.
*Drink water often. Don't wait until you are thirsty.
*Avoid unnecessary work or activities if you are outside.
*Do not depend on fans to cool you down. The air conditioner is the strongest protective way against heat-related illnesses.
*Do not leave kids or pets in cars.
