Analysis of the students The students are from Grade 8. The characteristics of them are obvious. They are full of passion and curiosity. But it is a pity that they don’t want to express themselves for the lack of confidence.
Analysis On the Teaching Materials This lesson is from Module 6 Unit1 ,the second term of Grade 8 . The topic is about hobbies related to the Man and Self(人与自我) . Many students have hobbies and also they are interested in others' hobbies , so they will be interested in this topic.
Teaching Objectives After this class, the students will be able to: Knowledge objectives: 1 .Master the following words and expressions:stamp, shelf, as, coin, pound, dollar, valuable, value, just, have a look, take up, all over the world Understand and use the following expressions: ①.I collect coins and notes. ②. I’ve collected stamps from all over the world. ③. People also collect things to remember something important in their lives. ④. You’ve got… ⑤. People often give me fans… Ability objectives: Understand and talk about hobbies in English freely. What’s your hobby --- My hobby is… Master the skill of shorthand. Identify the intonations of different sentence patterns. Moral objectives: Help students cultivate some good hobbies to promote their all-round development. Have a knowledge of the hobbies of different nations and cultivate the cultural awareness.

Teaching Procedures
Activities Purposes
Step 1: Leading-in (2 mins) Watch a video clip of Boonie Bears, then make students answer what their hobby is. To catch students’ attention and make them interested in this topic.
Step 2: Pre-listening ( 5 mins) The teacher shares her collections and the reasons. Students talk about their own collections and tell the reasons of collection. To get the students know the new words about collections and prepare for the following listening.
S Step 3: While- listening (11 mins) ( Task 1:Listen and check. (3 minutes) Students listen to a dialogue about the collection of Tony’s and his family’s collection and find out who collects the things in the pictures. To train students’ listening ability for detail information.
Task 2: Listen and answer the questions (5 minutes) Listen and answer the questions. After listening, students are asked to answer the questions. To get students master the new words and train the students’ listening skill of catching details.
Task 3: Fill in the blanks (3 minutes) 1.Listen and complete the table and think about two questions. 1. To train the students’ ability of shorthand and learn to know the meaning of collections that their value isn’t always important .People collect things just to remember something important in their lives.
SStep 4: Post- listening (20 mins) Task1: (4minutes) Watch and read after the video and pay attention to the pronunciation as well as intonations.Then role play in groups. Task 2: (5 minutes) Invite some groups to role play a certain part of the video in front of the class. Task 3: (2 minutes) Analyse their behaviour ,listen and repeat some sentence pattern and conclude some tips about intonations. Task 4:(9 minutes) Make a survey on your group members’ collection and report it in front of the class. To get students master the function sentences in the text and train students’ speaking ability, especially the pronunciation and the intonations. To cultivate students’ confidence of speaking English. To get the students pay attention to the intonations of different sentence patterns. To apply the topic to students’ real life and encourage them to speak English in front of the class. Students’ team spirit can also be strengthened.
Step 5: Self-evaluation(1min) 1 Tick the items you can do. Let the students know whether they achieve the objectives.
