三、阅读理解
A
Dear Linda,
Your brother sounds like a very selfish person. But I want to know what makes him act this way. Since he seems to be doing this on purpose, maybe the only way to do with the problem is to try to find the cause.
I think your brother is probably hurt in some ways. Perhaps he feels unsafe because he is not a full part of the family. He could be displeased with your mother’s love for the rest of you over him.
It is wrong to fight anger with anger though you think it is a need to help your mother. I suggest you try to help your brother by treating him with more care and love. It must be hard for him to grow up in a family where his sisters have their real mother but he doesn’t. Try to let him know that you care about him. With time he may come to know how lucky he is and start to treat you all with the same kindness that you give him.
Yours Truly,
Sue Clarke

Our lives have become mare digital (数字的) in the modern world. We can study, find information and chat with friends through computers and phones. However, spending a lot of time working, reading, texting and gaming through digital devices (设备) is bad for our eyes.
According to the American Optometric Association, 70 to 75 percent of computer workers have eye problems.
Digital eyestrain (眼睛疲劳) is one of the most common problems. People with digital eyestrain may get headaches, dry and red eyes, eye pain and other problems.
These problems have started to increase among children. “Children get cellphones at younger ages and are using them very often during the day,” Sarah Hinkley, spokeswoman (女发言人) for the American Optometric Association, told USA Today.
The good news is that there are many things you can do to reduce digital eyestrain.
When using a computer, first sit in your chair and reach out your arm. Your hand should rest comfortably on the screen, as if you’re high-fiving the screen. Increase text size until your eyes feel comfortable.
When you are using a mobile phone, keep it at least 34 cm from your eyes and just below eye level. Try not to use it under sunlight.
Remember to take a 20-20-20 break: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet (about 6 meters) away.
34.What can we know from Sarah Hinkley
A.Children can easily get eyestrain. B.Many children are experiencing digital eyestrain.
C.Children mustn’t use cellphones. D.Using cell phones can cause many problems.
35.When we use phones, we should ________.

One day, three of my friends came to our house.
They told me they wanted to go to Africa. They asked me if I wanted to go with them. I said, “Yes, I want to go with you.”
We started to prepare all the necessary things for the journey. Soon we were ready to go. I said goodbye to my wife and we started our journey. Our plan was to be back in two months.
We left Brazil on the first of September, 1655. Our ship was very big but we were only seventeen men. The ship was full of things for business. We had cups, glass, mirrors, knives and other products.
At the beginning of our journey the weather was very good, but very hot. In one week, a hurricane (飓风) came and it was threatening (威胁) our ship for the next twelve days. After the hurricane passed, we saw we went quite far from our original (原来的) journey and were instead close to the northern part of Brazil near the Orinoco River. The ship was badly damaged (损坏), so we could no longer go to Africa.
The captain wanted us to go back and repair the ship, but I strongly disagreed with him. We went over the maps and decided the best thing to do was to go to Barbados and repair the ship there.
When we started this short trip, a second hurricane came. The next morning one of the sailors cried out, “Land!” and at that moment the ship stopped in shallow (浅的) water. We expected the ship to break apart (分离) at any moment because of the strong wind, so we all got into the small boat the ship carried. This was very dangerous because the seventeen of us were crowded (拥挤的) in the boat, and it had no sail.
The waves were very big. The wind was extremely strong. The wind pushed us to big rocks. We knew the crash was close.
Suddenly, a huge wave appeared and overturned (翻掉) the boat. I was covered with water and couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t see the others or the boat. But I saw a little beach between the rocks.
Another wave carried me to the beach. I tried to get up. I tried to go further from the sea. I was able to move ten metres up. I was safe. But my arms and legs were very weak. I fell down and I was lying on the beach.
37.Why did the writer and his friends go to Africa .
A.To earn some money. B.To leave their wives.
C.To move house to Africa. D.To travel around Africa.
38.What did they do after the first hurricane passed
A.They had to go back to the place where they started.
B.They headed for the nearest place to repair their ship.
C.They studied the map and found a new way to Africa.
D.They lost their way on the sea and gave up their ship.
39.Which is NOT the reason for the boat becoming dangerous
A.No sail. B.Shallow water. C.Big waves. D.Crowded men.
40.Which of the following shows the right order of the event
① The ship changed the direction after the hurricane.
② All the men escaped to the boat but it turned over.
③ The writer was washed up on the beach by a wave.
④ The ship left Brazil with seventeen men on board.
⑤ The strong wind almost broke the ship into pieces.
A.④⑤①②③ B.④①②⑤③ C.④①⑤②③ D.④②①⑤③

US company Motorola created the first cell phone in 1973. The brick-sized phone could only make calls for 30 minutes. Today, we have 5G smartphones that look very different and can do a lot more. What will the future phones be like
Most foldable (可折叠的) phones today can only fold the screen up and down or left and right. But in the future, phones will be much more flexible (灵活的). In October 2023, Motorola put out a new phone. People can wear it like a bracelet (手环) and bend it into different shapes. Apple is also working on a way to make foldable screens with fewer creases.
Not only will the phones become flexible, but they will also be able to fix themselves. Professor Zhenan Bao from Stanford University made an electronic skin that can fix itself with heat and magnets (磁). This skin acts like human skin, stretching (拉伸) without tearing (撕破). If it is used to make phones, the technology could lead to devices that could fix scratches (划痕) by themselves.
People will also power phones in ways that are different from now. For example, using solar energy. In 2016, Kyocera Corporation from Japan and French company Sun Partner Technologies made a phone with solar panels (电池板) in the screen. It takes only three minutes to charge. But it still needs traditional batteries (电池). In the future, faster and independent solar charging could make solar-powered phones more popular.
60.When did Motorola company put out a new phone
61.How long could the first Motorola phone make calls
62.What can an electronic skin do on a cell phone
63.What will make solar-powered phones more popular in the future
