A
Keeping plants at home is a healthy and comfortable way of life. The following houseplants can create a most beautiful piece of green for your home.
Bird’s Nest Fern (蕨)
The bird’s nest fern is a good choice for anyone with a house that wouldn’t support sun-loving species. It’s a hardy fern variety adapting to living on forest floors, where the air tends to be cool and damp. It likes to be misted as well, but this doesn’t always mean you need a misting bottle—spraying (喷洒) it in the sink or hanging it near a shower often works as well.
Chinese Money Plant
This is a flowering species that might be most appropriate for experienced plant gardeners looking for a new challenge. It prefers a moderate amount of indirect light, and tends to dry out slightly between watering sessions. It produces new plants easily without any input, directly from its root system. These can coexist in the same pot for a time.
Resurrection Plant
This native of the Mexican desert has adapted to surviving in extreme drought by curling (蜷缩) into a ball and remaining in seemingly lifeless state for years, if necessary. In this form, it can be transported by the wind across the dry landscape to areas with water. It will revive within hours in a shallow bowl of water, unfolding and transforming into a fresh and green moss (苔藓).
Snake Plant
This is a striking houseplant that can be an especially good option for new plant owners who you might not trust to keep a plant alive. It grows happily in almost any condition. While it prefers bright light, it doesn’t mind shade or even artificial light. Plus, thanks to its thick, fleshy leaves, it stores water with remarkable efficiency, which makes it survive without water in the earth.
21. What is special about the bird’s nest fern
A. It prefers shade. B. It is sun-loving.
C. It tends to grow in the sink. D. It can return to life after death.
22. Which plant will test its owner’s gardening skill most
A. Bird’s nest fern. B. Chinese money plant.
C. Resurrection plant. D. Snake plant.
23. What do resurrection plant and snake plant have in common
A. They demand attentive owners. B. They are very drought-tolerant.
C. They will curl for self-protection. D. They can store water for drought.
A 22. B 23. B
根据Bird’s Nest Fern部分介绍中的第一句“The bird’s nest fern is a good choice for anyone with a house that wouldn’t support sun-loving species.”(对于那些家里不支持喜欢阳光的物种的人来说,Bird’s nest fern是一个很好的选择)可知,Bird’s nest fern 对那些房屋不适合种植喜阳植物的人来说是个不错的选择。 故选A项。
根据Chinese Money Plant部分介绍中的第一句“This is a flowering species that might be most appropriate for experienced plant gardeners looking for a new challenge.”(这是一个开花的物种,可能是最适合有经验的植物园丁寻找一个新的挑战)可知,Chinese money plant可能最适合正在寻找新的挑战的有经验的园艺师。
根据Resurrection Plant部分介绍中的第一句“This native of the Mexican desert has adapted to surviving in extreme drought by curling (蜷缩) into a ball and remaining in seemingly lifeless state for years, if necessary.”(这种原产于墨西哥沙漠的植物已经适应了在极端干旱中生存,它们蜷缩成一个球,如果必要的话,会在看似没有生命的状态下保持数年。)和Snake Plant部分介绍中的最后一句“Plus, thanks to its thick, fleshy leaves, it stores water with remarkable efficiency, which makes it survive without water in the earth.”(此外,由于它厚厚的肉质叶子,它储存水分的效率非常高,这使得它在没有水的情况下也能生存。)

For the first time in the competition’s history, two athletes are sharing a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.
The USA’s Katie Moon and Australia’s Nina Kennedy found themselves in a difficult situation during the women’s pole vault (撑竿跳) final. They both cleared 4.90 meters, but neither managed to clear 4. 95 meters on any of their three attempts.
Kennedy says she looked at Moon and said, “Hey, girl, maybe you want to share this ”
“And the relief on her face — and you could see it on my face — and it was mutual (相互的). And yeah, absolutely incredible to share a medal with Katie Moon. You know, we’ve been friends for so long, so it’s super special,” Kennedy told reporters after the final.
Thousands of fans were on their feet at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, for Date 5of the competition, which hosts almost 2,000 athletes from 192 countries. The dramatic event lasted two hours and ten minutes. Katie Moon told FloTrack that as the final progressed, it became clear that very little separated the two athletes.
As the competition was going. I kept thinking. “I don’t want this to go to a jump-off (加赛),” Moon told sports journalist Anderson Emerole. “This competition was the toughest battle I’d say that I’ve had. It was very emotionally draining (消耗), and I think that’s why both of us were feeling like. ‘We’re not really feeling the jump- off right now.’”
It was Moon’s second consecutive gold medal at the World Championships. She also w on an Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021. With a personal record of 4. 95meters. Moon appeared to be the favorite.
Kennedy, however, did not back down. Not only did she set a new personal record, but she also broke the Australian record by eight centimeters when she sailed over the 4.90-meter high bar. She held back tears after the career-defining leap.
“It was a miracle to get the gold. I think a miracle happened tonight.” Kennedy told reporters.

Jorg Muller, an ecologist at the University of Würzburg, with his colleagues, proposes a way to measure the biodiversity—listen to the jungle by AI, in a paper published in Nature Communications.
The rainforests are very important and always alive with the sounds of animals, which is useful to ecologists. When it comes to measuring the biodiversity of a piece of land, listening out for animal caller is more effective than uncovering the bushes looking for tracks and paw prints. The latter analysis method is time-consuming, and it requires an expert pair of ears. Muller’s idea was to apply the principle of smartphone apps which can identify the sounds of birds, bats and mammals to conservation work.
The researchers took recordings from across 43 sites in the rainforests. Some sites were relatively primitive, old-growth forests. Others were areas that had just been cleared for pasture(牧场) recently. And some other original forests had been cleared but then abandoned, allowing themselves to regrow. The various calls were identified by an expert, and then used to construct a list of the species present. As expected, the longer the land had been free from agricultural activity, the greater biodiversity it hosted. Then it was the computer’s turn. “We found that the AI tools could identify the sounds as well as the experts,” says Dr. Muller.
Of course, not everything in a rainforest makes a noise. Dr. Muller and his colleagues used light traps to catch night-flying insects, and DNA analysis to identify them. They found that the diversity of noisy animals was a reliable representative for the diversity of the quieter ones, too.
Besides measuring the biodiversity, the results are also expected to be applied to outside ecology departments. Under pressure from their customers, firms like L’Oreal, a make-up company, and Shell, an oil firm, have been spending money on forest restoration projects around the world. Dr. Muller hopes that an automated approach to checking on the results could help monitor such efforts, and give a standard way to measure whether they are working as well as their sponsors say.
28. Why does Muller propose to measure biodiversity with AI
A. To make a new conservation principle.
B. To seek away fit for hot environments.
C. To work more efficiently than manpower
D. To study the rainforests more specifically.
29. How was the identification work of AI tools on the 43 sites
A. It agreed with the work from experts..
B. It identified different types of raintarests.
C. It recorded more sounds in the abandoned forests.
D. It was used to restore the biodiversity for pasture.
30. What does the author indicate in paragraph 4
A. DNA analysis is skeptical in the research.
B. Quiet animals are as diverse as noisy ones.
C. A rainforest is always full of various noises.
D. AI technology is used to catch the insects.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. The research focuses on biodiversity only.
B. L’Oreal and Shell develop monitoring apps.
C. The research will assist in forest restoration.
D. AI’s help will attract some sponsors’investment.
C 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据第二段中“When it comes to measuring the biodiversity of a piece of land, listening out for animal caller is more effective than uncovering the bushes looking for tracks and paw prints. The latter analysis method is time-consuming, and it requires an expert pair of ears.”(在测量一块土地的生物多样性时,倾听动物的叫声比揭开灌木丛寻找足迹和爪印更有效。
根据第三段中““We found that the AI tools could identify the sounds as well as the experts,” says Dr. Muller.”(“我们发现人工智能工具可以像专家一样识别声音,”穆勒博士说。) 故选A项。
根据第四段中“They found that the diversity of noisy animals was a reliable representative for the diversity of the quieter ones, too.”(他们发现,嘈杂动物的多样性也是安静动物多样性的可靠代表。)

D
Nowadays, the world is slowly becoming a high-tech society and we are now surrounded by technology. Facebook and Twitter are innovative tools; text messaging is still a somewhat existing phenomenon and even e-mail is only a flashing spot on the screen when compared with our long history of snail mail. Now we adopt these tools to the point of essentialness, and only rarely consider how we are more fundamentally affected by them.
Social media, texting and e-mail all make it much easier to communicate, gather and pass information, but they also present some dangers. By removing any real human engagement, they enable us to develop our abnormal self-love without the risk of disapproval or criticism. To use a theatrical metaphor (隐喻), these new forms of communication provide a stage on which we can each create our own characters, hidden behind a fourth wall of tweets, status updates and texts. This unreal state of unconcern can become addictive as we separate ourselves a safe distance from the cruelty of our fleshly lives, where we are imperfect, powerless and insignificant. In essence, we have been provided not only the means to be more free, but also to become new, to create and project a more perfect self to the world. As we become more reliant on these tools, they become more a part of our daily routine, and so we become more restricted in this fantasy.
So it is that we live in a cold era, where names and faces represent two different levels of closeness, where working relationships occur only through the magic of email and where love can start or end by text message. An environment such as this reduces interpersonal relationships to mere digital exchanges.
Would a celebrity have been so daring to do something dishonorable if he had had to do it in person Doubtful. It seems he might have been lost in a fantasy world that ultimately convinced himself into believing the digital self could obey different rules and regulations, as if he could continually push the limits of what’s acceptable without facing the consequences of “real life.”
32. What can we know about new communication tools
A. Destroying our life totally. B. Posing more dangers than good.
C. Helping us to hide our faults. D. Replacing traditional letters.
33. What is the potential threat caused by the novel communication tools
A. Sheltering us from virtual life. B. Removing face-to-face interaction.
C. Leading to false mental perception. D. Making us rely more on hi-tech media.
34. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A. Technologies have changed our relationships.
B. The digital world is a recipe for pushing limits.
C. Love can be better conveyed by text message.
D. The digital self need not take responsibility.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Addiction to the Virtual World B. Cost of Falling into Digital Life
C. Interpersonal Skills on the Net D. The Future of Social Media
C 33. C 34. A 35. B
根据第二段“To use a theatrical metaphor(隐喻), these new forms of communication provide a stage on which we can each create our own characters, hidden behind a fourth wall of tweets, status updates and texts. This unreal state of unconcern can become addictive as we separate ourselves a safe distance from the cruelty of our fleshly lives, where we are imperfect, powerless and insignificant. In essence, we have been provided not only the means to be more free, but also to become new, to create and project a more perfect self to the world.
根据第二段“By removing any real human engagement, they enable us to develop our abnormal self-love without the risk of disapproval or criticism. (通过消除任何真实的人际交往,它们使我们能够发展我们不正常的自爱,而不会有不赞成或批评的风险。)”可知,新的交流工具让人们产生了错误的心理感知。故选C。

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Giving generously and receiving gratefully make it easier to live happily with others. 36
Let me start with the idea of giving generously. 37 For example, my husband and I have family members who only contact us when they need money. We usually accept their requests, but we rarely receive a “thank you”. Most people would say that my husband and I are being used, and I suppose we are. But when we give, we shouldn’t be giving for the purpose of getting gratitude or praise. Rather, we should be giving because it is a good thing.
The good news is that when we lead our life being nice to others, our life runs more smoothly. 38 But if you practice being generous, most of your relationships will improve.
At the same time, we should remember to receive gratefully. I truly believe that you cant say “thank you” enough when you receive.
39 Parents can feel unappreciated by their children, and teachers can feel unappreciated by their students. Do you think it unnecessary to thank them when receiving just because a task is part of someone’s job description? That’s wrong!
40 It is good for us to say “thank you” because we regularly need to remind ourselves how lucky we are. And hearing those two words can make us feel great for days.
If you are looking for a way to improve your life, I can give you one: Give generously and receive gratefully.
A. So often we get lazy about expressing gratitude.
B. Thus, saying “thank you” can bring us good luck.
C. If you are generous, some people will use you.

G. Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else.
F 37. E 38. C 39. A 40. G
36. 上文“Giving generously and receiving gratefully make it easier to live happily with others.(慷慨地给予,心怀感激地接受,让我们更容易与他人幸福地生活在一起。)” 根据文章第二段“ We usually accept their requests, but we rarely receive a thank you.(我们通常接受他们的要求,但很少收到谢谢。)” F选项“Yet, why do we have such difficulty achieving these things in our relationships (然而,为什么我们在人际关系中很难做到这些呢 )符合文意”。故选F项。
37. 根据下文“For example, my husband and I have family members who only contact us when they need money. We usually accept their requests, but we rarely receive a thank you. Most people would say that my husband and I are being used, and I suppose we are.(例如,我丈夫和我的家人只有在需要钱的时候才会联系我们。我们通常接受他们的要求,但很少收到谢谢。大多数人会说我和我丈夫被利用了,我想我们是被利用了。)”,作者举了例子,说我们很少收到谢谢,我们被利用了“my husband and I are being used”。E选项“I think people are unwilling to be generous to others for fear of being used.(我认为人们不愿意对他人慷慨,因为害怕被利用。)”
38. 下文“But if you practice being generous, most of your relationships will improve.(但是如果你练习慷慨,你的大部分关系都会改善。)” C选项“If you are generous, some people will use you(如果你慷慨大方,有些人会利用你)”与下文是转折关系,符合文意。故选C项。
39. 根据下文举例“Parents can feel unappreciated by their children, and teachers can feel unappreciated by their students.(父母会觉得孩子不感激他们,老师也会觉得学生不感激他们。)” A选项“So often we get lazy about expressing gratitude.(我们常常懒得表达感激之情)”符合文意。故选A项。
40. 根据下文“It is good for us to say thank you because we regularly need to remind ourselves how lucky we are. And hearing those two words can make us feel great for days.(对我们来说,说谢谢是件好事,因为我们经常需要提醒自己我们是多么幸运。听到这两个词会让我们好几天感觉好。)”可知,听到谢谢两个词会让我们感觉好几天。G选项“Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else.(感激之词能让别人对自己感觉良好)”符合文意。
As a writer, I miss rejection slips. Not that I enjoyed receiving those pre-printed slips of paper, but at least when I got one, I was pretty sure that a flesh-and-blood 41 had put it in the envelope. And there was always the chance I might see a handwritten sentence on the bottom, 42 the piece almost made it. When an editor at McCall’s wrote, “I’m afraid I have to say no on this 43 piece, but try me again on another, would you ” It was almost as 44 to me as if she had said, “We’ll 45 it and here is an advance for you”.
Nowadays, rejection slips seem to have disappeared with the use of online submissions. Most editors don’t feel it a must to 46 they have received, read, or considered your work because they receive so many 47 each day.
For me, there are three 48 of rejection slip pain. The first is 49 brought on by finding a flat “no” on a 50 piece of paper, then followed by anger (how could they 51 a piece that is obviously so much 52 than most of the stuff they print), and, finally, rebirth: I will live to 53 a new piece another day.
Learning to 54 rejection seems like part of growing up as a writer. Despite the many letters of acceptance I have received, my folder of “Noteworthy Rejection Slips” is far 55 than that of “Noteworthy Acceptances”, which indicates to me the fact: I still have some growing up to do.

Impressions from the 3D Printing Exhibition
Last week, I attended a 3D printing exhibition held by our school technology workshop, where lots of 3D art creations were displayed, which surprised us all.
I couldn’t feel more excited to visit the different 3D printed products, such as printed art creations, animals, food and even model planets. Also, the speeches given on 3D printing technology were considered as a highlight to help us better understand the theory, function and practice of 3D technology.
However, I do believe it would be better if the maximum number of visitors could be limited for better experience.

Before seven o’clock one Saturday morning, a large crowd had already gathered at the stadium. David sat at the starting line, his gloved hands holding his wheelchair. With his heart beating, the boy wondered if he would be able to complete the race. His classmates were all there to support him. From a distance, he could see them holding up big banners (横幅) which screamed: WE ARE WITH YOU! ALL THE WAY, DAVID! Heartened, he smiled and waved back. He was not going to let them down.
Born with a severe condition that left him paralysed (瘫痪) from the waist down. At six, he underwent several surgeries to improve his condition. As a result, he was able to attend school and even took up sports to help strengthen his bones and muscles. Then, he fell in love with wheelchair racing. Unfortunately, he did not have a lot of coordination (协调) or strength but he had a will to keep going. Once, without warning, his condition took a turn for the worse and it almost destroyed his pursuit of his passion.
One day, David’s teachers encouraged him to compete alongside his non-wheelchair schoolmates. Unsure and yet grateful for the opportunity, he thought he should give it a shot. By the time the race was about to begin, the sun had risen. David was glad that he was well prepared. Adjusting the cap on his head and his gloves, David was all ready to protect himself from the heat and the strong strokes to his wheelchair. David’s eyes followed the starter who was waving a red flag. As soon as the gun was fired, David was off. The entire stadium erupted into thunderous cheers.
David pushed forward with all his strength, his hands holding the wheels the whole time for the long-distance race. His wheelchair rolled steadily out of the stadium, passing the shop houses. Despite doing everything he could to keep up with the other competitors, David fell behind.

Overhead, the sun continued to burn in the cloudless sky. Gradually, David felt tired and thirsty. His head felt as if it were on fire as the sun was burning through his cap, which was consuming his energy. He was beginning to feel weak. David pushed on, and the heated metal of his wheels burned into his hands. With each passing minute, he was breathing harder. Every single push also made his arms and shoulders ache badly. Despite this, he never thought of stopping.
He was determined to overcome every single challenge. Removing his cap and throwing it away, he gathered up all his strength and pushed hard forward. Just at that time, the crowd shouted again, “Go, David, go!” Then, he felt as if he were flying at an unstoppable speed. Ten minutes later, the tape was finally coming into view. Delighted and grateful, he went past the ribbon. The entire stadium was filled with victorious screams because David’s persistence paid off.2024年浙江高考英语考前冲刺仿真模拟卷01

D. In return, we are to help others by giving them our time or money.
E. I think people are unwilling to be generous to others for fear of being used.
F. Yet,why do we have such difficulty achieving these things in our relationships?
G. Words of appreciation make others feel good about themselves like nothing else.
