Writing 1
An A for Mrs.B
I was sitting next to Missy in my ninth-grade world history class when Mrs.Bartlett announced a new project. In groups, we were to create a newspaper on the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our groups. After collecting all the requests, Mrs.B informed us that she would take into consideration the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. Only a few people behaved normally in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other.
The next day, I anxiously waited for the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs.B called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached the third group, Missy's name was called. So, I was in the third group, I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake!
Then I heard it. The last group: "Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina." I could feel the tears well in my eyes. How could I face being in that group—the boy who rarely spoke English, one girl who was always covered by the skirt that went down to her ankles, and the other girl who wore weird clothes Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs.B. She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was determined to convince her I should be in the "good" group. "Why... " I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder. "I know what you want, Karina," she said. "But your group needs you. I need you to help them get a passing grade on this assignment. Only you can help them."
I was stunned(说不出话来). I was confused. I was amazed. She had seen something in me I hadn't seen.
"Will you help them " she asked.
I stood straighter. "Yes," I replied. I couldn't believe it came out of my mouth, but it did. I had committed.

I bravely walked to where the others in my group sat.
In the end, Mrs.B gave us an A on that assignment.
Writing 2
Alex pedaled his bike along the country lane that led to his house. As he rounded a bend, the tips of the cattails that grew around Johnson's Pond came into view. His dad took him to go canoeing there sometimes, and Alex loved it. The pond was always so alive with activity. Frogs croaked along the shore, dragonflies hunted among the cattails, and sometimes Alex discovered turtles basking in the sun(晒太阳) on the rocks.
Alex was curious about the turtles he saw. One week, when it was too rainy to go canoeing, he and his dad went to the library to check out books on turtles. Alex learned that turtles don't have warm blood like people do. That's why they have to sit in the sun to warm themselves. Now it looked like tomorrow might be another sunny day. He decided he would ask Dad if they could go canoeing and look for turtles again.
Just then Alex saw something in the road up ahead. It looked like a big gray rock. But it was a funny place for a rock to be.And then, as Alex watched, the rock started to move.
When he rode his bike up to get a closer look, he saw that it wasn't a rock at all. It was a large turtle that crawled across the road. It had a bony, beak-shaped mouth and a long, jagged tail. Alex knew right away it was a snapping turtle.
He also knew not to get too close. He had read that a snapping turtle has a powerful bite even though it doesn't have teeth. It could even bite off someone's finger. He stood at a distance and watched the turtle move slowly over the road.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a car approaching. The turtle was still only halfway across the road. Alex knew he couldn't pick it up to move it safely to the grass. What could he do
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Thinking fast, he started jumping up and down and waving both hands wildly.
To make the warning sign, Alex hurried back home and started his work with some leftover wood and paint.

A school talent show would be held three weeks later. I told my best friend, Tina, the news. My elder brother had been teaching me to juggle(玩杂耍), and I knew he'd help me with my act for the show. Tina ran over to the noticeboard and read the poster. But when Tina asked me what our act was going to be, I didn't know how to speak up for myself. I held on to my books tightly. Tina laughed and pointed to the poster. It said acts can be individuals, partners, or small groups. My grip(紧握) on my books now became uncomfortable. I asked Tina if she wanted to do an act with me. She nodded. I hesitated for a second before continuing, "I've got an idea and..." Tina interrupted me immediately, "Yeah, me too; let's talk about it over lunch."
During math, I tried to think of how I would tell Tina that I wanted to do my own act. After all, we were best friends; we should be able to see eye to eye about this. The problem was Tina always took charge. I never spoke up, and then I ended up feeling angry. I desperately wanted to win, but it was more than that. I wanted to win on my own—with an act that was all mine.
At lunch, Tina started talking as soon as we sat down. She had it all planned out. She said we could sing along to a song and do a dance routine, and her mother could make us costumes. However, I got up the courage and told her about my juggling act. Tina said she didn't think she could learn to juggle in three weeks and that she would probably drop the balls. She didn't want to be embarrassed. I didn't say anything, but after school, I
ran around the track a couple of times just to let off steam.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
My grandmother drove over to pick me up.
When we got home, I took 12 deep breaths before I called Tina.

Being Planted
"106!"The cry of disappointment breaks the silence of the peaceful night.
In darkness, he stands still there, with tears dropping continuously from his eyes.
He is a 5th-year Ph.D. student majoring in biology. This is his 106th attempt to cultivate strawberries which could bear extreme climates. In his 105th experiment, he did all the precautions that he knew could lead him closer to his goal. Every generation of the strawberry seemed to bring him closer to success, but every time the result was alike—failure, failure, failure. He has literally got used to it. But this time, he can hardly help feeling frustrated and angry.
"Who stole my experimental strawberry!"
Last night, when he got to the field, he was thrilled. Although most of the plants were obviously dying, one plant stood vigorously in the middle of the experimental field. The plant was labeled "Plant No. 106". What a coincidence! In his 106th attempt, the 106th plant was finally mutating(变异) in its ideal way—the spark of hope, to him.
Last night, Plant No.106's fruit started to turn red. He was never so close to success. What he needed to do was wait for several days to harvest that pink, shiny and attractive fruit. But this night, the fruit disappears. So does his hope.
"3 years' effort! 1,096 days' struggling! 13,152 hours' DNA editing and experiment. ALL GONE!"he murmurs to himself. He regrets that he didn't get a small sample of the stolen strawberry last night.
Now he is using his fingers to dig the ground. He doesn't know why he is doing so. He is well aware that the results of the past 106 attempts are all wasted because of the incident and his not taking the sample in time. He has no seeds left. At the present, he seems to have only 2 choices: to start from the very beginning, or to give up.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope.
He is so excited that he bursts into tears.
Writing 5
My father, Michael, led me through the little wooden house he'd filled with his paintings."When I have an exhibition..."he began, pointing to the artworks he'd created, before stopping. "Poor Pa,"I thought. In 1994 he got Parkinson's disease(帕金森病),which had shocked the whole family as he was only in his forties.
A husband and father to three kids, Pa had had a successful career running an advertising agency and had always been extremely creative. Outside of work, he'd spent 15 years fronting the cover band, Musical Chairs, which performed at the pub in Sydney's Double Bay each week and, when I became a mother, he developed a very close bond with my daughter.
Even when his Parkinson's advanced, my father decided he wanted to paint. "Why don't you try classes " my mum Louisa suggested. He agreed. In art lessons, the class practised painting still life objects, like pears, but my father had other ideas for his inspiration. He began producing abstract pieces, inspired by his favourite artist, Jackson Pollock, a leading abstract expressionist. "Why abstract "I asked him. "Because,"he replied, "it helps us to see the world around us in a different way. You can look at these paintings and ask‘what if ’"
Soon, I realized he was right. When I observed my father's work, I could interpret each of them in many ways. Once he got started, he showed no signs of slowing down. The little house was quickly filled with more and more works.
But in 2019, Pa developed cancer and was given just three months to live. The thought of losing him was too much for any of my family to accept, but we soon received great news that a new form of treatment can help him greatly. Since he continued speaking about wanting to share his paintings with the world, I knew what had to be done.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
I told him I would help organize an exhibition.
A month later, the big day finally came.

I bravely walked to where the others in my group sat. Encouraged by their big smiles(过去分词短语作状语), I sat down and assigned each of us different tasks according to our personal interests and advantages. After that, we plunged right into work. Halfway through it, I felt myself enjoying their company. I learned that
Mauro had few friends because he was struggling with the English language(that引导宾语从句,从句中有一个because引导的原因状语从句); Juliette wore a long skirt every day because of the custom; Rachel had a burning desire to be a fashion designer. Finally, teaming up with one another, we completed our assignment successfully.
In the end, Mrs.B gave us an A on that assignment. She explained to the whole class that our newspaper was well-laid-out with rich cultural knowledge. It was thrilling to see our painstaking efforts finally paid off. We hugged tightly, our joy and happiness beyond description. At the moment, I suddenly realized that it was Mrs.B's insight that brought out the potential in four of her students(第一个that引导宾语从句,第二个that构成强调句), a deep sense of gratitude rising inside me. And thanks to her, I've learned to discover others' strengths. She is the one who truly deserves the grade A.

To make the warning sign"可知,该段还应描写Alex想到了为保护啮龟立牌子的方法。

Thinking fast, he started jumping up and down and waving both hands wildly. "Stop! Stop!" he cried. The car slowed to a stop, and the driver stuck his head out of the window with a puzzled look. Alex darted forward and pointed at the moving turtle."I'm just trying to save it," he explained. With an understanding smile, the driver applauded his efforts. Seeing the car pulling away(现在分词短语作伴随状语), Alex was lost in deep thought. "Maybe I could put up a sign to warn people there is a turtle crossing the road," he said to himself.
To make the warning sign, Alex hurried back home and started his work with some leftover wood and paint. He hammered nails into the wood to make a flat board, after which he painted a vivid picture of a turtle in the middle and added "Slow! Turtles Crossing" at the bottom("介词after+which"引导定语从句). He had completed all his work when Dad who offered to carry the sign to the spot arrived home(时间状语从句;限制性定语从句). Together they fixed the sign into the ground by the side of the road. With their work done(with复合结构),they both breathed a sigh of relief and headed home with great satisfaction.

My grandmother drove over to pick me up. Realizing I was unusually quiet, she asked me what had happened. I talked about the talent show. Looking at my face from the mirror in the front of the car, she said gently, "Honey, your ideas deserve to be considered carefully." She also suggested I tell the truth. Hearing what she said, I thought about it over and over again. I began to realize that it wouldn't hurt to let Tina know what I really wanted if she was a true friend of mine. Finally, I made up my mind to talk to Tina.
When we got home, I took 12 deep breaths before I called Tina. With butterflies in my stomach, I waited for her to pick up the receiver. After I got through, I told her that I was going to do my juggling act alone. Much to my relief, she said OK after a short silence. Before hanging up, she also wished me success. The next day, she described her act and I talked about my practice. We encouraged each other and exchanged ideas. I found it not so hard to speak up for myself. On the day of the talent show, my wonderful performance received thunderous applause from the audience. It was the talent show that boosted my confidence and made me into a better person by speaking up bravely(It was...that强调句,强调主语the talent show).

He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope"可知,续写第一段应该会讲到他挖地时的心理活动以及挖掘的结果等。 He has no seeds left"可知,他挖出的可能是种子。
He is so excited that he bursts into tears"可知,同学们在续写第二段时可以继续描述他的激动之情,并讲述这次发现的重大意义。

He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope. No matter what the result is(让步状语从句),he wants to bring some soil back as a memory for his 3-year effort. Out of the blue, he touches something that feels different(定语从句).It is a sprouting seed! It was accidentally planted too close to the mutated plant. It looks even more vigorous than Plant No.106 in this more rigid environment. It is obvious that this slowly-growing plant will bring out an even better experimental result than Plant No.106(主语从句). He names it Plant No.106-1.
He is so excited that he bursts into tears. If someone hadn't stolen Plant No. 106, if he hadn't dug the soil after he thought he failed, he would miss this extraordinarily special seed(虚拟语气).Everything is not only hopeful again, but becoming even better. Sometimes, we may find ourselves in darkness, feeling helpless and desperate(现在分词短语作状语), just like Plant No.106-1, just like "HE". But never give in, for darkness may be temporary. Please be patient and hold your virtue of perseverance, for maybe "we" are just being planted.

I told him I would help organize an exhibition"和续写第二段的首句"A month later, the big day finally came"可知,"我"为父亲办了画展,故第一段可从"我怎样准备画展 ""我能得到哪些人的帮助和支持 ""画展在哪里举办 ""布置画展需要做什么 "这几个方面去写,可以从找父亲之前所在的广告公司帮忙做宣传、联系父亲之前所在乐队的朋友、挑选画作、安排画作的位置等相关内容入手。

I told him I would help organize an exhibition. Soon I contacted the advertising agency he once worked for, explaining my father's current situation and his long-desired dream. The people in charge agreed with pleasure, adding that my father's creativity was deeply appreciated. Everything went smoothly, and a great idea hit me. Why not invite Musical Chairs Their presence would surely bring Pa great comfort and a sense of belonging. After receiving a big "Yes" from the band, we began to select works to be exhibited and then transported them to our city museum.
A month later, the big day finally came. With our company, Pa went to the museum. Seeing the crowds flooding in(现在分词短语作状语),Pa smiled like a young boy, his wrinkled face lighting up. The viewers expressed their admiration to Pa and shared with him how they were inspired to see the world differently. Pa cast a glance at me with pride and gratitude(心理+动作描写). I felt greatly privileged to be his daughter, for I knew his creativity and passion for life would inspire me to go a long way.
