You may ever hear about training for your health. But do you know anything about training for your English thinking?
When you are learning English and living with English speakers, English may become part of your “inner speech(内部语言)”. In other words, you start thinking in English. Your mind gives up trying to translate(翻译) things from your mother language into English. If you can think in English and speak what you think, you will improve your English a lot.
However, most of English learners don't live in an English-speaking environment(环境), so they have few chances to practise. You may have the same problem. To help with this problem, we will share some steps with you.
The first step is to think in words. Try to name the things around you in your mind. If you continue doing that, it will become a habit. The words are going to show in your mind at once when seeing the things.
The next step is thinking in easy sentences. For example, if you are sitting in a park, you can tell yourself something like “It's such a beautiful day.” As it becomes easy, you can turn to more difficult sentences. Try to say a sentence in your mind or try to put the words together without thinking too much.
Then, let's move to conversations. When you do this, you are imagining yourself speaking to someone else. You can ask some questions and think of the replies by yourself. This is an important way to practise what you might say in a real conversation.
The most important thing is that you need to do all of these exercises every day, over and over again. If you make it a habit, everything will come into your mind without thinking. That is, you're thinking in English.
