It was the last game of the season. I had been playing soccer all summer. I really enjoyed running around with the other players in my bright blue uniform, chasing the black and white ball across the grassy field. As much as I tried, though, I still had not scored one single goal.
“Don’t give up,” said my coach. Before each game, we had a practice session. He showed me and my team how to pass the ball to each other and take shots at the goal. I was pretty good at passing the ball, but even during practices, I couldn’t kick the ball past the goalkeeper. I wondered if I should quit soccer for good.
“Don’t give up,” said my teammates. Some had been playing soccer for a couple of years, and some were new to the game just like me. “You just need to keep trying and you will get better.” So I stayed on the team and did my best.
The break was over and the judge blew his whistle to start the game again. The two teams walked back onto the field, both determined to win. I bent, tied up my shoelace and heard my coach whisper in my ear. “Look for an opportunity to get the ball. You can do it.”
I stood up and took a deep breath. Even if I didn’t get one goal all summer, I knew that I had tried my best. That was something to be proud of. So I smiled at my coach and headed to my position. The whistle blew, and the game continued.
The score was tied (平局) with one goal each. The yellow team was pretty good, but my blue team was fast. Our ponytails (马尾辫) jumped up and down as we ran, with many feet kicking wildly at the ball when it came near us. I was off to the side when the ball headed my way. I ran over to it and kicked it.
I watched it land right in front of a girl on the yellow team who expertly stopped it and sent it back in the other direction. I sighed.

【答案】One possible version:
I watched the ball go back and forth between the players. My heart wasn’t in the game anymore. I was so disappointed about missing the goal again so I decided I’d wait until the game was over and then I was going to hang up my soccer shoes for good. One girl of my team patted me and gave me an encouraging smile, which made me inspired. Suddenly, I looked around and saw the soccer ball close by, ignored by the nearest yellow player. I came back from my day dream and smiled. I looked at my coach, who nodded at me. “Now!” My coach yelled.
Hearing the coach, I didn’t hesitate. I dashed over to the ball. I dribbled it between my feet, moving forward toward the net of the yellow team. By the time the other girls had noticed, I was positioned right in front of the net. The goalkeeper turned back quickly to guard the net as I kicked the ball hard, reaching out her gloved hand. The ball touched the tips of her fingers as it swooshed past, right into the top corner of the net. The referee blew his whistle. “Goal!”

September was the peak season for tourism. Edward had a restaurant in a tourist attraction. He was hoping to welcome more and more tourists every day. Joyfully, he ran into his truck and drove at ease to his restaurant. Before turning into the main road, he had to drive through an fifteen-kilometer tunnel (隧道) which was the only access to his restaurant.
Three years earlier, a truck was burning in the tunnel, causing severe damage to the inner part. Then, the traffic flow came to a stop and it was a huge blow (打击) to Edward’s business. With the road to his restaurant blocked, the tourists stopped unwillingly. Difficult as it was, he managed to keep his staff on.
“How wonderful this year will be!” Edward said from the bottom of his heart. Eventually, the tunnel returned to normal and the traffic flow went smooth. But when he was near the end, Edward saw an unusual light 30 meters ahead, and then he saw something catching fire.
Edward stopped his truck and found a tour bus burning. At the same time, many tourists were running off the bus and towards him.
“No, they are running the wrong way,” Edward thought, knowing the tunnel exit was 400 meters ahead. Then he realized there was no possibility for them to get around the tour bus burning so violently.
Having been a volunteer firefighter previously, Edward had to raise the alarm (警报) first. “A bus on fire! Stop driving!” he texted the fire station. While driven by the strong wind, heavy smoke was blowing in his direction, Instantly, it would black out (遮挡) the tunnel, choking anyone inside it to death. Chances were that the poor tourists wouldn’t survive. Every second counted.

1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

【答案】参考范文:
Having been a volunteer fire fighter previously, Edward knew what needed to be done. Dashing out of the truck, he pulled the cargo box open as fast as possible. Then he shouted at the top of his voice and waved his arms desperately in the air, signalling the trapped tourists to run towards his truck. With the smoke growing thicker and spreading faster, the frightened tourists started to board the truck in order under the guidance of Edward. It being a matter of life and death, Edward sped towards the exit by passing the burning bus.
After Edward had driven his truck for 3 minutes, they finally arrived at the tunnel exit! What a narrow escape! All of them took a relieved breath, cheered with hands dancing in the air and surrounded Edward with deep gratitude. But for Edward’s timely help, they wouldn’t have survived. However, Edward felt anxious that the tunnel would stay closed for a long time again. Thanks to his message, the firefighters arrived just in time to put out the fire. Luckily, the tunnel stayed open as usual. More importantly, it was his sense of responsibility and spirit of devotion that attracted thousands of tourists to visit his restaurant on a regular basis, which was just beyond his expectation.

Deep Love
As the economy was in decline, many families in our city were struggling to make ends meet. Our church had a way of assisting those who had financial difficulties without making the receivers feel ashamed or guilty. Money was dropped into an offering box with only the name of the receiver on the envelope. The envelopes were then sent to those members without them knowing the name of the giver.
There came a time when my husband and I were among those in need. We did not talk about our financial difficulty with anyone. The only reason why our children knew it was that we had to cut down on many things. Still, we hoped they were not aware of the extent of our need, nor of how much their father and I were suffering because of it. We did not want to burden them with a problem they couldn’t solve.
Our situation became worse and worse. My husband and I knew that we would have to look for outside help. Just as we reached the point of despair, our church gave us a gift envelope that had been left in the offering box. We were overjoyed to receive a large amount of money, enough to bring us through that hard time. We were extremely relieved and very grateful. We were wondering who had given us such a generous gift.
Ten months later, our seventeen-year-old son was applying for a student loan so that he could attend university. It was then that we discovered that his savings account was almost empty. His father and I were very worried about this. We had trusted him to put part of his wages from his part-time job into the bank towards his education. From the time he was nine years old, he had been a newsboy for The Star, and he had worked very hard for his small earnings.

Paragraph 2:

【答案】“Where has the money gone ” I asked him anxiously. At first, he would not tell me. Hesitant and wordless, he didn’t dare to look directly into my eyes. He lowed his head, which made me even angrier. Countless doubts roared in my mind. I asked the question repeatedly. He still stood there without saying a word. “Tell me the truth!” I shouted, determined to find out where the money had gone. After a while, he moved his lips as if to say something.
Finally, with great reluctance, my son told us what he had done ten months ago. “I sent it to the offering box with your names,” he murmured. His words suddenly hit me like lightning. I was glued to the spot speechless, tears filling my eyes. It had taken my son many years to save that money. He had given it to us willingly—without telling us what he had done. I drew my son into my arms, sobbing and apologizing. Never in my life had I been aware of my son’s love, silent but pure and deep. It was at that moment that I felt I was the happiest mother in the world.

A dog in Tennessee was found with a heartbreaking note attached to her neck. The note read: “My name is Lilo. Please love me. My mom can’t keep me and is homeless with two kids. She tried her best but can’t get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me and I’m a great dog and love to be loved. Please don’t treat me badly.”
A good Samaritan found Lilo wandering around alone with her chain still attached to her neck.
On Tuesday, the dog was taken to McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga. The animal shelter posted photos of Lilo and a message to the owner on social media, letting her know the dog was in good hands.
“We are so sorry that you had to make the decision to leave her behind. We know many people are struggling to care for their pets right now. We know how hard it must be to give up an animal you so clearly loved because you can’t provide the care she needs. We understand.
We want you to know she is safe, and we will take the very best care of her. She will be loved by our staff and volunteers, we will keep her name, and we promise you we will do our best to find her a wonderful new home.
But if you are reading this, we hope you will come forward to take her home again. We will help you with whatever you need to care for her, to the best of our ability. Lilo absolutely misses you, and we would like nothing more than to see her go back to the family she loves. Either way, please know that we understand, we will not judge, and we are here to help in any way we can. “

Most people didn’t agree to find a new home for the dog, preferring that the dog should return to her original home. People knew that the dog’s original owner had a hard life, and they offered various kinds of help to the dog’s owner. Some sent cash to the shelter, while others sent clothes, food and supplies. In particular, one company was willing to provide dog food for all her life.
Finally, the owner of the dog arrived to fetch her dog. She was so moved by the kindness of these strangers that she contacted the shelter, admitting she had abandoned the dog and regretted it so much that she decided to take her back. I looked forward to a visit to my grandma, who lived in a hospital 2000 miles away from my home. Grandma suffered from Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默症) since she was 80. I realized how important it was to see her again soon.
When I arrived at the hospital, I found grandma lived in a simple room and spent most of her day doing simple things, which was considered as dementia (痴呆). Seeing my grandma come in, I smiled, hugged and kissed her, and said, “Nice to see you, grandma.” She didn’t recognize who I was! I was shocked.
Stressed out, I spent several hours trying to connect with my grandma — talking with her, walking around the grounds, looking at family pictures in her room, chatting with the doctors —doing whatever I could think of to help grandma recognize her grandson. But nothing worked. Suddenly I had an idea. I thought of the strawberry milkshake that might stir her memory.
When I was a kid, my family was not rich enough to buy many strawberries. Even so, my grandma would buy some to make the strawberry milkshake, which became my favourite drink. Every time she made it, my family would sit around the table, drinking and chatting. And grandma was always watching me drinking the milkshake. If I drank up mine, she would pour hers into my glass. I believe that was her unforgettable memory.
The next morning, I visited grandma with two glasses of milkshakes.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The visit reminded me of the importance of our families.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】The next morning, I visited grandma with two glasses of milkshakes. With only a few sips, grandma blinked, looked up and said, “My grandson!” The tears were streaming down my face. The power of love and food could move mountains. I was so moved that no matter how much Alzheimer’s my grandma had, I was sure she would never forget me. The rest of the time we spent together was very special to me. I read stories to grandma and watched her talking and laughing with me. I'll cherish the moments forever.
The visit reminded me of the importance of our families. We should express our love to them not only when things are good, but also when they are hard. Showing care in tough times helps and indeed heals. I learned from the visit that love is the most powerful medicine in our life. A meaningful visit to my grandma enhanced my faith in the miracle of love. I will never forget what I experienced that day.

The M1 highway was closed down in both directions due to flooding, leaving thousands of vehicles stuck on the spot. Several hundred had been stuck for at least 30 hours since the road was cut at about 7.30 am on Monday.
Unluckily, I was one of the people who were waiting for help. There are almost 100 vehicles trapped on the road about 800 meters long. And one benefit was that there was a short road tunnel (隧道) that had provided shelter from the pouring rain as well as some lighting after nightfall. So how people have felt depended on how well they stored food. I was totally in trouble because of lacking food. I heard someone knocking on my window while I was worrying about my situation.
A man, who was driving a truck full of raw (生的) chicken leaving for downtown, opened his truck’s door and shared the chicken around by dinner time on Monday. This was a thriving community of shared resources and resourcefulness, where the truck driver dished out food that had been ordered for supermarkets. And others helped to cook the raw chicken by the tool which were found in their cars.
I took the chicken from the truck driver and, after expressing my thanks, I lost in thought: how do I cook this chicken Just as I was looking around in confusion, a girl not far away waved to me, “Come over here, we have cooked meat.” “No, thanks,” I replied casually. But I was so hungry that I couldn’t help but walk over to her with the chicken. She took the chicken from my hand, cleaned it and put it on the grill (烧烤架). I was impressed by her masterful way. After a while, some meat was cooked and I took the meat she handed to me.

【答案】参考范文:
As I got the hot chicken, I was filled with gratitude. Bending my head and taking a smell of the food, I felt I was eating the most delicious food in the world. Getting out of my car, I found a great number of people, eating, talking and smiling happily. Those receiving food said “thank you” again and again to those who gave. People were talking so friendly and warmly as if they had known each other for many years. Some people even exchanged phone numbers and addresses.
I carefully wrote down the phone number of Catherine, the girl who had helped me so much during the wait. She was not that experienced in cooking, but she was very warm-hearted. I felt ashamed and touched to see her moving nimbly through the crowded traffic to help others. Finally, with the help of some firemen and traffic police, all the cars left safely. Then I called her on the phone. After a short talk, I expressed the idea of inviting her to my home for dinner. She readily agreed, and I was very happy.

When I was young, I lived in a quiet small town with my mom. My mom was beautiful and kind but one day she got a contagious(传染的) disease, which was said to be very serious. I was worried about her , seeing her becoming thinner and paler day by day. Mother’s Day was coming. I decided to buy mom some flowers to make her happy. There was only one flower shop in the town-Mr. Rocco’s.
It was time for Mr. Rocco to shut up shop when I hurried into the florist’s (花店). “Now, what is it that you want ” Mr. Rocco turned to me. “I want the most beautiful flower you have.” I replied, still breathing hard. “And just how much do you have to pay for this most beautiful flower ” I held out a wet hand showing a quarter and a dime. He nodded, thought for a while and then showed me a plant on the counter. “I can give you this one for 35 cents.” he said. “Aw, no,” I protested, looking desperately at the poor plant “it looks like a weed (野草)!” About 18 inches high, the plant was in a small pot covered with faded red paper. “Now trust me, boy — I promise that tomorrow morning when you get up, you will find your most beautiful flower.” said Mr. Rocco. I knew him to be a good honest man, so I agreed to take it. I believed what Mr. Rocco said about the flower and hoped tomorrow morning there would be a nice surprise for my mom.
It was almost midnight when I arrived home. Mom was seriously sick and using the front bedroom. I looked in to see if she was asleep, and then quietly tiptoed in and set the plant on the table beside her bed. I wanted her to be surprised when she woke on Mother’s Day.

【答案】范文
The next morning, I dressed and hurried downstairs. The sun was shining through kitchen window as I looked into mom’s room. She motioned for me to come in, then glanced over at the table where the plant was. Holy mackerel! There were three big yellow trumpet-shaped blooms. It was just like Mr. Rocco said — the most beautiful flower I ever saw! When I looked at Mom, she was smiling as tears streamed down her cheeks. She held out her hand for me to come near, then pulled me close and hugged till it hurt. Then, remembering her contagious condition and that she wasn’t supposed to touch me, she quickly let me go.

Ripple, a cat in my family, liked to follow us everywhere they went. Our house was just a mile from my school. So instead of driving every day to my school, we would walk down a wooded path which was almost straight except for one fork (岔路) in the road a little way down the path. At the fork, we would turn left, which would take us the rest of the way to my school. If we turn right, the path would lead us deeper into the forest, far away from the town.
Ripple would follow us down that path every day. On weekdays, my dad and I would get ready for our walk, with Ripple following closely behind. When we got to school, my dad would drop me off inside as Ripple waited patiently at the door. After I was safely inside, my dad and Ripple would then start their journey home.
One day, it was snowing, and more snow was falling at a steady rate. Still, we headed out with Ripple following closely behind. We walked with heads down to avoid the blowing snow, and we barely spoke, as our faces were hidden into our coats. Because of this, when a small sound broke through the snow and the wind, we looked at each other in puzzlement, wondering if the other one had said something. But as we listened more, we found it couldn’ t be heard clearly, but was still there, and it made us both turn around to see what was making that noise in this white land.

【答案】One possible version:
A good distance away from where we now stood, Ripple sat in the snow and the cold. She was so far away that I could hardly see her little brown body in the fog of white. She was meowing continuously, so my dad knew something must be wrong. But what was it When we got to where she sat, my father realized something. She was standing in the fork in the road, the one where we were supposed to turn left. We had missed our turn, but Ripple had remembered. She tried to remind us of the best way she knew.
We admitted that Ripple had a better sense of direction than we had. And we set off down the correct path. This one would lead us to my preschool, not deeper into the woods. Ripple stopped her meowing as soon as she saw us going the correct way and followed us as usual all the way to my preschool. Then she went back through the storm with my dad to the warm house, where I was sure she would be praised and rewarded with a treat. If it wasn ‘ t for her, we wouldn ‘ t know where we were right now.

There were once two boys who were very good friends. Their names were Arman and Batoor. Arman and Batoor would always play together after school on the basketball court close to where they lived.
One day, two bullies came to the basketball court, and one of the bullies stole their basketball. “This is ours now,” said a bully.
“And you are never getting it back,” said the other bully.
Then the bullies started pushing the two boys and Arman fell down and suddenly became very frightened. Without thinking, the young boy jumped to his feet and ran home without once looking back to see if his friend Batoor was also able to run away.
But Batoor was not so lucky, and anyway, he did not like being bullied and refused to run away. But the boys were bigger and stronger than Batoor and they hit him and kicked him.
“That will teach you,” said the bullies. And with that, the bullies walked away, leaving poor Batoor to walk home alone.
The next day, when Arman met Batoor in the playground at school, he was very sorry when he saw what the bullies had done to his good friend.
“I cannot believe you ran away and left me all alone!” said Batoor. “What kind of a friend acts like that ” Although Arman tried to apologise, Batoor was very angry and did not want to forgive his friend.
Arman felt terrible about running away, and now he had lost his best friend because of his actions.
Batoor’s mother bought him a new basketball, and because the boy decided not to have his life ruled over by bullies, he returned to the basketball court the following day and played alone.
Just as he was practising, he heard a voice behind him.
“I see we are going to have to teach you another lesson,” said the voice. “And I see that you have another basketball for us to take,” said the other.
And when Batoor turned around, sure enough, the two bullies were walking towards him. “Now hand over that basketball and we won’t beat you so badly this time.”
Just as Batoor was about to protest, another voice rang out loud and clear across the basketball court.

The small Christmas Tree
Marcus sat by his window, gazing at the blinking lights on other buildings. He thought of Papa, who was visiting sick grandpa in Jamaica. “I’ll try to help Mama while you’re gone,” Marcus had promised his father.
His little brother, Peter, sat beside him. “When are we getting our Christmas tree, Marcus ” Peter asked, “I can’t wait to decorate it with Mama’s straw birds.”
“We’re not getting a tree this year, Peter,” Marcus said. “Too much money with Grandpa’s illness. Mama said we can’t afford one.”
Someone knocked on their door. A kid of the neighbour rushed in. He looked around, “No tree yet We bought a big tree a week ago! It’s up to the ceiling (天花板). Just two more days till Christmas! I guess you’re not getting a tree.” He laughed and ran away.
On hearing the words, Peter couldn’t control his tears. Sadly, Marcus walked slowly to his room and shook his piggy bank. Only seven dollars! Far from enough! Mama was too tired to make a living. He decided to earn more on his own. He delivered the milk on his way to school and after school, he stayed busy pushing carts to help shoppers. In the evening, he looked after the baby for neighbors. Two days later, six more dollars jingled (发出叮当声) in his pocket. “My lucky day,” he thought. Thirteen dollars should buy a small tree.
He whistled all the way to the street with the excited Peter. But even the smallest trees were $15 or more. “we’ll never get a tree, brother,” Peter cried, tears in eyes. Marcus didn’t answer. He saw a small tree planted in a can. “Is that one for sale, sir ”
“That’s my last growing tree,” the seller said. “It’s small now, but it will grow tall.”

Standing at the lake’s edge, I cast my line onto the smooth-as-glass water of Police Outpost Lake. Down the shoreline was my cousin Isaiah’s father, my Uncle Rick, who liked to fish alone, away from noise and other people. I’d learned to fish from my dad who had been a fish and wildlife officer. He loved his job, especially the part where he protected nature from humans. He’d taught me everything about fishing. However, he passed away.
Isaiah shouted, “Dad, where should I stand ” Uncle Rick pointed to a shady spot by a large rock where he had cast his line, and shook his head gently.
“He wants us to be quiet or else we won’t catch any fish,” I whispered.
Isaiah frowned, pouting, but it was “message received.”
Songbirds, ducks, and Canada geese glided by on the breeze, touching down briefly on the water’s surface before flapping and quacking their way back up into the sky.
“Why do I have to be so quiet ” asked Isaiah. “All those birds are making way more noise than I ever could!”
I ignored him and focused on the water. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a few loons(潜鸟)gathering together not far from the shoreline. What were they doing there Loons usually travel alone, but here were five of them. Maybe it was a family One loon, wailing and making yodeling sounds, swam away from the group, toward me.
“Isaiah! Come here!”
“Now who’s shouting ” asked Isaiah.
“Come here. A loon is swimming toward us, closer and closer.”
Just then, the loon stopped, letting out a crazy and loud sound, as if trying to catch our attention. Stepping into the water and getting closer to the loon, we both saw thin wire wrapped around its neck. Fishing line maybe Reaching down, I touched its head, my heart racing. I could see a fishing line was wrapped tightly around its neck. Left like this, the loon couldn’t fly or fish or survive. It was asking us to help!

Paragraph 1
“Get the scissors from the toolbox.” I shouted. Isaiah ran, splashing his way to shore. He came back with a tiny pair of scissors, saying, ”You pick it up, and I will cut away the line.” I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, feeling my dad’s presence and guiding us shoulder to shoulder. Trembling with fear, I bent down, picked it up and held it tightly. After Isaiah cut away the wire from its neck, we breathed a sigh of relief.
Paragraph 2
As I set the loon down on the water, it beat its wings joyfully. Then, fixing its red eyes directly on us, it rose up and slapped its wings down hard on the surface of the lake. It seemed to be saying, “Thanks for saving me, boys.” Still shaking, I couldn’t believe we made it. Back on shore, Uncle Rick had been watching. “Boys, I’m awfully proud of you both. You worked together and kept that loon alive.” Looking at those birds making their way in front of the sun, I was lost in thought, "Yeah, we did. But I couldn’t have done it without my dad.”

Buried in the snow
Snow was falling across Canadian Rocky Mountains in March, lasting for days. From his home, Allen watched the weather with concern. He and his wife, Lucy, had planned to go out for holiday, but now he wondered whether they should go. After phoning the hotel, they decided to make the trip. By the time they neared the hotel six hours later, they were caught in a snowstorm. When they finally arrived, they were both cold and tired out. They checked into their room and went to bed early.
When they awoke the next day, they found the snow had continued overnight. The cars in the parking lot were hidden under the snow. While they were having breakfast, the hotel began to shake. An earthquake with a magnitude (震级) of 5.7 had struck the mountain. “Let’s get out of here!” Allen shouted to his wife. They made their way to the parking lot, where others were digging out their cars.
With most cars freed by noon, the guests set off down the driveway. But when they reached the main road, the path was blocked by a two-meter-high wall of snow. Allen climbed out of his car to check. There was no road in sight. “We’re trapped!” he told his wife. With no other choice, they made their way back to the hotel.
They managed to get back to the hotel before dark. That was when the snow on the mountain began to slide. They heard the avalanche (雪崩) before they saw it. The avalanche gathered speed, taking away rocks and trees and anything else in its way as it flowed down the mountain, tearing the hotel from its foundation. When the avalanche came to a stop, those trapped inside the hotel were buried in the icy ruins.

I sighed.

“How much does it cost ” asked Marcus. “It’s Christmas Eve. For you, $8.” answered the man.
