参考范文:
Paragraph 1:
Sarah decided to help Mrs. Wilson out. Every Saturday, as Sarah saw Mrs. Wilson, she would treat Mrs. Wilson to her desserts generously and chat with Mrs. Wilson in order to comfort the elderly woman and make Mrs. Wilson feel she was cared about. Influenced by Sarah’s kindness, Mrs. Wilson gradually worked through her sorrow. While enjoying Sarah’s desserts, Mrs. Wilson shared her baking stories and valuable baking experience without reservation with Sarah and offered her tips on opening a bakery after knowing Sarah’s dream.
Paragraph 2:
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the park. Sarah’s small table was not merely a place to desserts; it turned into a symbol of caring for the elderly. Mrs. Wilson, once a lonely woman, found herself being surrounded by a group of new friends, whose company helped her get out of loneliness. Assisted by Mrs. Wilson, the small table has grown into a shop. Sarah’s bakery has been on the up and up with a constant stream of visitors, who are attracted by both the lovely smell and the moving story.

Text 10 贵州村超足球赛
W: If you like watching soccer games, I suggest you go to Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province. The Village Super League (VSL), known as Cun Chao in Chinese, is held there. The players in it come from a wide range of professions, including shop owners, drivers, construction workers, etc. The players might be salespeople during the day, but at night, they become shining stars. They also come from many ethnic groups including Miao, Dong, Shui, Han and Yao. Thanks to its festive atmosphere and players’ outstanding goal-scoring performances, the VSL has captured the attention of the media. The fun of the VSL doesn’t lie only in the sport itself but also in the display of local culture during the matches. Before a game begins, cheerleaders, dressed in traditional ethnic costumes, carry local specialty foods including fruits and snacks on their shoulders, and play musical instruments as they enter the stadium alongside soccer players. The audience can also enjoy folk songs and dance performances during the halftime break. If you can’t wait to see the matches in person, please contact me via email. I’ll be pleased to show you the best place to watch the games when you come to Guizhou.

The battery is crafted from sustainable materials, which not only strengthens its eco-friendliness but also makes it cost-effective to produce. This combination of biodegradability (可生物降解) and affordability makes it attractive for a wide range of applications. Another standout feature of this paper battery is its flexibility in terms of shape and size. Unlike traditional batteries that are available in fixed sizes, this paper battery can be tailored to meet diverse requirements.
In reality, the paper battery is enough to power an LCD alarm clock. “While it won’t be charging up your computer anytime soon, there’s lots of potential for low-powered sensors. We present a printed paper battery developed to power single-use disposable electronics and to reduce their environmental impact to the lowest level,” write the researchers in their published paper.
The battery is based on a metal-air electrochemical cell. Made from sodium chloride salt-diffused (氯化钠盐扩散的) paper, it can measure as little as one square centimeter, and is based on printed inks. All that’s needed, then, is a small amount of water, as little as two drops. This dissolves the salts within the paper, and then activates the battery as they travel. The battery starts producing power around 20 seconds after water is added, according to the experiments carried out by the team.
Although the performance decreases over time as the paper dries out, it can be topped up to some extent with more water. The researchers say they want to improve the efficiency of the battery in the future, and get it working for longer. “With a rising awareness of the e-waste problem and the emergence of single-use electronics for applications, there is a growing need for low environmental impact batteries,” write the researchers.

As people across the globe struggled with higher levels of stress, depression and anxiety this past year, many turned to their favorite comfort foods: ice cream, pizza, hamburgers. But studies in recent years suggest that the high-sugar and high-fat foods when we are stressed or depressed, as comforting as they may seem, are the least likely to benefit our mental health. Instead, whole foods such as vegetables, fruit, fish, eggs, nuts may be a better bet.
Historically, nutrition research has focused largely on how the foods we eat affect our physical health, rather than our mental health, though. Over the years, large population studies have found that people assigned to follow a Mediterranean diet for three months had greater reductions in symptoms of depression after three months compared to a control group.
Public health experts around the world have started encouraging people to adopt lifestyle behaviors like exercise, sound sleep, a heart-healthy diet and avoiding smoking that may reduce inflammation (发炎) and have benefits for the brain. Individual clinicians are already including nutrition into their work with patients. Dr. Drew Ramsey, a clinical professor at the Columbia University, begins his meetings with new patients by exploring their diet. He asks what they eat, learns their favorite foods, and finds out if foods that he considers important for the connection are missing from their diets, such as plants, seafood.
Dr. Ramsey said he does not wat people to think that the only factor involved in brain heath is food. “Lots of people get their food exactly right, live very active lives, and still have significant troubles with their mental health,” he said. But he also teaches people that food can be empowering. “We can’t control our genes,” he said. “But we can control how we eat, and that gives people actionable things that they can do to take care of their brain health on a daily basis.”
28.What do previous nutrition studies mainly focus on
A.How our diets affect our mental health. B.How our diets affect our physical health.
C.How our mental health affects our diets. D.How our physical health affects our diets.
29.Why are individual clinicians including nutrition into their work with patients
A.They try to cater to their patients’ needs.
B.They are questioning public health experts.
C.They want to prove the effectiveness of healthy diets.
D.They have accepted the findings of large population studies.
30.Which of the following might Dr. Ramsey agree with
A.Some connection exists between our diets and mental health.
B.People can control their genes as well as how they eat.
C.People living active lives will not have mental problems.
D.Eating a healthy diet is going to cure depression.
31.What is the main idea of the text
A.People with anxiety usually turn to food for comfort.
B.The daily diet is the factor connected with brain health.
C.Controlling the way we eat is likely to benefit our mental health.
D.Having a high-sugar diet can reduce symptoms of depression.

Researchers examined 120 babies aged 6 to 14 months as they watched a children’s opera performed at a concert hall (61 babies watched in person, the other 59 watched a recorded form). They carefully set the recording so the performers were at the same size, distance and volume as the live form. The babies’ responses were tracked through heart monitors and tablets, and afterward research assistants searched through the footage (镜头) to note when babies were looking at the stage and when they looked away.
The live performance kept their attention for 72% of the 12-minute show and also had them continually watching for longer periods of time. The findings suggest that even babies feel the impact of being at a live show, through both musicians’ interactions with an audience and the social experience of being in a crowd. “Their heart rates were speeding up and slowing down in a similar fashion to other babies watching the show. Those babies were dealing with all these distractions (使人分心的事) in the concert hall, but still had these interests in the performance,” says Laura Cirelli, an assistant professor. In comparison, the recording held the babies’ attention for just half of the 12-minute show.
“If there’s something happening that we collectively are engaging (参与) in, we’re also connecting with each other. It speaks to the shared experience,” says Cirelli. “It’s well established that socialization (社会化) is important during early childhood development — a baby’s brain is laying the groundwork for future life skills and abilities as it grows. Music can play a powerful part in making those important bonds. Babies are more likely to socialize with someone after hearing them sing a familiar song or dancing to music with them.”
The study, which was co-authored by Haley Kragness, now an assistant professor at Bucknell
University, will also feed into some of Cirelli’s other work. “If a baby is frequently brought to these kinds of events, will that provide the foundation (基础) for their engaging in music and the community later in childhood ” Cirelli says. “It speaks to why we are inborn to consume music and attend live shows in the first place.”
32. How did the researchers make the experiment convincing
A. By airing two different performances.
B. By tracking babies’ activity with caution.
C. By asking a smaller group to see the live show.
D. By making the recording similar in every detail to the live form.
33. What can we learn about babies enjoying the live show
A. They watched the show more carefully. B. They had faster heart rates.
C. They formed bonds with musicians. D. They enjoyed it without distractions.
34. What might be Cirelli’s attitude to babies’ watching live performances
A. Concerned. B. Uninterested. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
35. What will Cirelli’s further study focus on
A. The reasons for our attending live shows.
B. The benefits of socialization for babies.
C. Live performances’ other influences on babies.
D. Babies’ growth after seeing recorded shows.

Brief and pleasant small talk can promote learning, expand your horizons, and contribute to a sense of belonging. 36 We asked experts to share their favorite strategies for getting better at small talk.
Take advantage of “free information”.
Find help from your surroundings, says Debra Fine, an expert on communication skills. If you’re standing next to someone at a baby shower, for example, the fact that you’re both there is what she calls “free information” — so ask the person how they know the mum-to-be. 37
Skip sensitive questions.
Avoid controversial (有争议的) topics and potentially sensitive matters (such as religion, relationship status, kids and work). 38 You might ask a high school senior to fill you in on their college search, for example, rather than asking if they will get into a famous college.
Respond generously.
Think of conversation as a game — and aim to be an active player, which requires investing energy in it. If someone asks how you are and you simply respond “Good”, you’re being a “lazy conversationalist”. 39 That gives the person you’re talking to plenty to work with if they’d like to continue to chat.
40
Some conversations may drag on because people can’t figure out how to end them. Consider introducing the person to someone else, suggests Diane Windingland, and leaving time for them to know each other. Besides, Windingland recommends completing conversations like this: “Please excuse me, I have to talk to so-and-so.”
A. Exit the chat gracefully.
B. Focus on meaningful topics.
C. You can maximize (使最大化) these benefits by mastering some techniques.
D. Rather than a single-word response, offer a full sentence in return.
E. Your shared reality is a wonderful entry point for deeper conversation.
F. Instead, questions like “What keeps you busy outside of work ” are suggested.
G. One key to changing that is to first accept that these casual chats are impossible to avoid.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sarah, a high school student, had a great passion for baking. With her parents’ support, Sarah dreamed of opening her own bakery, a place where she could turn her interest into a business. However, she knew the importance of improving her skills and gaining real-world experience.
Therefore, every Saturday, without fail, she would set up a small but charming table at a local park. The park, filled with families and laughter, was the perfect place for Sarah to sell her creations. Her table, neatly laid out with colorful homemade cookies and cakes, attracted passers-by with the desserts’ smell.
On a particularly bright and sunny afternoon, as Sarah was carefully arranging her chocolate cookies and cakes, her attention was drawn to an elderly woman sitting alone on a bench. The woman, with her silver hair and sad eyes, seemed lost in thought. As the hours went by, Sarah noticed that the woman remained where she was, seemingly forgotten by the world. A sense of concern washed over Sarah. So she decided to act. She poured a cup of warm tea carefully and cut a generous slice of her rich chocolate cake, a crowd favorite, and approached the woman.
“I thought you might like some snacks,” Sarah said with a warm, inviting smile. The woman’s face lit up as she accepted the treat. “Thank you, dear. I haven’t had such a delicious treat since my retirement,’ she responded, her voice soft yet filled with gratitude. As she enjoyed the cake, tears rolled down her face.
A little shocked, Sarah asked what had happened. The woman introduced herself as Mrs. Wilson, who had been a baker before she retired. Since losing her husband to cancer a week ago, she had been living alone. Her visits to the park were her escape from the loneliness that filled her quiet home. Sarah listened attentively, her heart touched by the woman’s story.
