10.Joey helped Matt to become better at sports.
11.From his experience with Matt, Joey has learnt that it is OK to be different.
【答案】7.F 8.T 9.F 10.F 11.T
【原文】Hi, guys! I’m Joey. We started a buddy system in our school last year. “Buddy” is another word for “friend”, but buddies don’t become best friends with the students they work with only. Their role isn’t to tell them what to do or how they should do something. It’s just to be there to help when they’re needed.
I first started being a buddy to Matt when I got back to school after the summer holidays. I didn’t really know Matt before that, although he’s in my class, because he was very quiet and he didn’t really fit in with me and my friends.
I didn’t know much about autism before I knew Matt, but he explained that he gets quite nervous if he’s surrounded by people the whole time. He’s OK chatting to people in small groups, but if there’s a big activity going on, like a game of football, he finds it difficult for him to join in.
I think Matt felt worried that he wouldn’t be able to make friends because people would think he was strange. I’ve helped him get over that, I think, and he’s now much more relaxed about talking to different people and making friends. He even joins us playing football sometimes. If he gets a bit better, I think he’ll get into the school team!
I’ve got a lot out of the whole experience of being a friend. Before, I was only keen on football and computer games, and I thought that anyone who didn’t do those things was just boring. Matt has shown me that we don’t all have to be the same—it’s fine to just be who you are.

Dear mum and dad,
I’m writing this letter to you from the center of Australia. At the moment we’re staying near Uluru—that’s the aboriginal(土著) name for Ayers Rock. On the first day, we took a plane tour over the rock, and I was surprised at how big it was: 3. 6 kilometers long and 384 meters high. The colors of the rock are fantastic, and at different times of the day, they change from purple to red. The Aborigines are the first people of Australia, and the ancient aboriginal stories describe the spirits that created the world. Uluru is a center of Aboriginal culture.
The Australians have many British relatives. That’s why they’re like us in many ways. Their family life is similar to ours, and they enjoy the same food and hobbies. The food and drink that most Australians like are grapes, lamb, ham and especially wine that they make in the south of the country. They love all sports, but football is the most popular. Most Australians live near the coast, so they also love going to the beach, swimming and surfing.
Although it’s December, it’s summer over here. The sunshine is very bright, and near the coast the countryside is very green. There are lots of sheep in the fields and on the hills, but the outback(澳洲内陆) is more like a desert, full of rocks and sand.
The next day after we arrived at Uluru, we went on a camel(骆驼) ride. The camel that I rode had a bad temper. When I sat on its back, it became very angry and refused me. So everyone else thought it was very funny that my camel kept lying down…
Finally, later this evening, we’re taking the plane back to Sydney and coming home, it’s been a fantastic trip!

D.Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题)(12分)
When Paul was a boy growing up in Utah, he happened to live near a copper smelter(炼铜厂). It made chemicals come out and made a beautiful forest become a wasteland. One day a young visitor looked at this wasteland and called it an awful area. Paul knocked him down angrily. From then on, something happened inside him.
Years later Paul was back in the area, and he went to the smelter office. He asked if they had any plans or if they would let him try to bring the trees back. The answer from that big industry was “No”.
Paul then went to college to study the science of plants. Unfortunately, his teachers said since there weren’t any birds or squirrels(松鼠) to spread the seeds, it would be a waste of his life to try to do it. He was told everyone knew that even if he was knowledgeable as he had expected, he wouldn't get his idea accepted.
Paul later got married and had some kids. But his dream would not die. And then one night he did what he could with what he had. To bring trees back to the wasteland, he went secretly into the wasteland and started planting under the cover of darkness. And every week, he made his secret journey into the wasteland and planted trees and grass.
Slowly rabbits appeared. Later, as there was legal pressure to clean up the environment, the company actually hired Paul to do what he was already doing. Now the place is fourteen thousand acres of trees and grass and bushes, and Paul has received almost every environmental award Utah has. It took him until his hair turned white to plant trees and grass, but he managed to keep that impossible vow(誓言)he made to himself as a child.
74.What did the copper smelter do to a beautiful forest near Paul’s hometown
75.The copper smelter officer agreed to let Paul bring trees back at first, didn't he
76.Why did Paul’s teachers think it would be a waste of time to try to plant trees in that area
77.What did Paul do in order to bring trees back to the wasteland
78.How long did it take Paul to plant trees and grass
79.What can you learn from Paul’s story
【答案】74.It made chemicals come out and made a beautiful forest become a wasteland. 75.No, he didn’t. 76.Because there weren’t any birds or squirrels to spread the seeds. 77.He went secretly into the wasteland and planted trees and grass every week. 78.It took him until his hair turned white. 79.We should try our best and never give up.
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了保罗尽自己最大努力,穷尽一生也要实现小时候的誓言的故事,最后被炼铜厂污染的森林又重现绿色的生机。
74.根据“It made chemicals come out and made a beautiful forest become a wasteland.”可知,炼铜厂出来的化学物质使漂亮的森林变成了废地。故填It made chemicals come out and made a beautiful forest become a wasteland.
75.根据“The answer from that big industry was ‘No’.”可知,炼铜厂的厂长一开始并不同意。故填No, he didn’t.
76.根据“Unfortunately, his teachers said since there weren’t any birds or squirrels(松鼠) to spread the seeds,”可知,因为并没有鸟和松鼠来传播种子,所以种树没有意义。故填Because there weren’t any birds or squirrels to spread the seeds.
77.根据“he went secretly into the wasteland and started planting under the cover of darkness. And every week, he made his secret journey into the wasteland and planted trees and grass.”可知,他每周趁着夜色进废地,坚持种树和草。故填He went secretly into the wasteland and planted trees and grass every week.
78.根据“It took him until his hair turned white to plant trees and grass”可知,直到头发苍白,他还在坚持。故填It took him until his hair turned white.
79.开放题,言之有理即可。根据“but he managed to keep that impossible vow (誓言) he made to himself as a child.”可知,保罗努力去守住了他小时候所做的誓言,因此本文告诉我们,要尽我们最大的努力,而且不要放弃。故填We should try our best and never give up.
