【词汇用法】
1.square (名词) “广场”“平方”
square meter 平方米
The square is 1,000 square meters. 这个广场1000平方米。
2.high与tall区别:
High(形容词) “高的；高度的”，可以用来形容超出常规高度的物体或事物
Tall(形容词) “高的”，通常用来描述长度较长的物体，如人、树或建筑物等，也可以用来描述人的身高。
The mountain is too high. 这个山太高了。
She is very tall. 她非常高。
3.in size 尺寸
其它搭配：what size 什么尺码
The regions differ in size, but not in kind. 这些地区大小各异，但类型相同。

4.数词 + 单位名词 + 形容词 (long/ wide/ high/ deep等)

6.any other + 可数名词单数 “任何其他...”
可与the other + 可数名词复数进行互换
any other student = the other students 其他学生
7.salt (名词) “盐”
-- salty (形容词) “闲的”
The soup is too salty, you must put too much salt in it.
这个汤太咸了，你一定放了太多的盐在里面。
8.population(集合名词) “（某一地区的）人口，全体居民”。
注意以下几点：
（1）形容人口多或少时用large/big 或small, 不能用many, few, much或little.
The population of China is very large. 中国的人口非常大。
（2）表示“某地有多少人口”的句型是：
“The population of + 某地 + is/was + 数” 或 “某地 + has a population of + 数”
The population of Australia is more than twenty million.
= Australia has a population of more than twenty million.
澳大利亚有2000多万人口。
（3）询问“某地有多少人口”的句型是：
“What’s the population of … ” 或“How large is the population of … ”
而不能用how many 或 how much.
Eg: What’s the population of Nanjing
= How large is the population of Nanjing
南京的人口时多少？
（4）population 与分数或百分数连用作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。
More than 50 percent of the population of the city are workers.
这个城市超过百分之五十的人口是工人。
9.One of the + 形容词的最高级 + 可数名词复数 “最...之一”
作主语时，谓语动词用单数

11.protect (动词) “保护”
常见搭配：protect ... from (doing) sth. 使...免于...
We should protect the environment from pollution. 我们婴孩保护环境免受污染。

as + 形容词/副词原级 as “像...一样”

度量单位使用规律
Qomolangma is 8,844.43 meters high.
The Nile is 6,671 kilometers long.
The Caspian Sea is 1,025 meters deep.
The Great Wall is about 6 meters wide.

（1）表示长宽高深时：
数词+meters/kilometers+high/deep/long/wide
数词 + 量词 + 表示长宽高深的形容词
（2）表示面积时：
数词 + square kilometers/meters + in size

（3）提问方式：
How+high/deep/long/wide… +be+主语？

【重点句型】
1. 1. China has the biggest population in the world.
population n. 人口；人口数量
population 是集体名词，在句中作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。
The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling.
表示有多少人口时，用“have/has a population of + 数词”，或“the population of … is + 数词”。
China has a population of about 1.4 billion. = The population of China is about 1.4 billion.
询问人口多少时，用“What is the population of … ”或“How large is the population of … ”。
What/How large is the population of Henan Province
表示人口多少时，用 big/large 或 small 修饰，而不能用 many，much 或 few 等。
India has a large population.
类似的，表示 price（价格）高低，用 high 或 low，不能用 expensive 或
cheap；表示 temperature（温度）高低，用 high 或 low，不能用 hot 或 cold。

比较级 + than any other + 可数名词单数
该结构意为“比其他任何一个……都……”，指同一范围内比较，表示最高级含义。
She is thinner than any other student in her class. = She is the thinnest in her class.
other必不可少，用以将主语从比较对象中排除，避免逻辑矛盾。
特别提醒：如果比较对象不在同一范围内或不属于同一类别，应用“形容词/副词比较级 + than any（任何的） + 可数名词单数”。

Techeng Island(特呈岛)lies in the southeast of Zhanjiang. The villagers there used to make a living by fishing. But now, most of them make much money by doing business. They believe that their island is a gift from nature and they give thanks to it every day. In 2003, President Hu Jintao came to visit the island and pointed out that the government of Zhanjiang should take the island into “a civilized new eco tourism island”(文明生态旅游新海岛). Since then, the island has opened a new page in history.
Today, the island has become a popular place for tourists. It takes you about 15 minutes to get there by boat from Maxie Pier(码头). But it is a just 8 minute boat ride from Zhanjiang Port Pier. In the resort(度假村), you can not only enjoy the fantastic sights but also have a lot of interesting things to do, like walking on the beach, visiting the museum and enjoying the delicious seafood.
