2024年中考英语二轮复习专题:完形填空(广东广州专用)
A
One of my earliest memories is play “shops” with my grandpa when I was 5. After leaving school at 18, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no 1 of how to run my own shop back then.
Several years later, my husband Eric and I heard about a shop for sale in a nearby village. We had a look and decided to have it as our own. We were a bit 2 at shop-keeping, so we often didn’t know what the 3 were asking for. But we soon learned how to run it well.
Nowadays, more people shop online, but they still come here for things 4 from their order. I’ve kept up with technology, but the shop itself hasn’t changed much.
Now, as I’m getting older, the shop is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, 5 closing at 8:30 p.m. like before.
Eric died 16 years ago, but I am 6 giving up the shop. I love it all—talking to the customers and getting 7 they want. Some customers come in two or three times a day. They often tell me their 8 and I offer advice if I can.
It was the shop’s 50th anniversary (周年) on May 13 this year. I wanted to do something 9 , so I held a party with my customers. I also wrote a book about my memories in the shop.
This shop has been my life. I never 10 I’d still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people here. It’s what keeps me going.

If you have a scar, big or small, be 80 of it. It’s part of who you are.

One of my earliest memories is play “shops” with my grandpa when I was 5. After leaving school at 18, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no 1 of how to run my own shop back then.

“Don’t be what you used to be.” The sentence is repeated many times in a book 61 Green Eggs and Ham.
When I was little, my mom used to read the book to me. 62 I thought of it as a book about nice food. In fact, it’s a fairy tale about a guy named Sam that wants another guy to 63 green eggs and ham. The other guy doesn’t want to try them because he doesn’t like them. The story is all about trying new things. It helps you keep an open 64 .
I think it’s very important to keep an open mind in life because it helps us to look at the world in a 65 way. It opens us up to more possibilities in life.
I ever did a 66 among my students. Many students tell me this is boring, or that is 67 . When I ask about studying English, they say it’s boring. When I ask about the Spring Festival, they say it’s boring. If you feel everything is boring, you are not trying new things. You’ re not 68 your mind. The mind is like a muscle that must be exercised to grow and develop. Trying new things is a great way to do it.
Doing special, personal, different, and interesting things is a good way to exercise the mind and develop new ways of 69 the world around us.
So please try something new very often even if it is something 70 like going to work in a new way, or trying a new kind of food. Let’s make our life exciting!

I’ve always been intrigued by scars. I find it funny when people are ashamed of the scars they have 71 their bodies. To me, scars shine a light on who a person 72 is.
I have far too many stories to 73 about my scars. Of course, I’ve got the usual kind that everyone has from when they were clumsy little kids. Like the ones on my knees and elbows. But I also have the kind of scars that tell a more valuable and complex story.
I was born in the year 2000. My parents knew before I was born that I’d be handful (难管的人) because I was diagnosed(诊断) with a variety of 74 issues while still in the womb(子宫).
Ten days after I was born, I had my first surgery, gaining my first of many scars. I 75 myself to be quite different because my experiences are rare and very 76 people have the same scar as I do. It’s original, like me.
Then, after several more months of going in and out of the hospital, I received my biggest and most meaningful scar from a six-hour open-heart surgery. This one runs all the way vertically(垂直地) down my chest. Typically, the heart is a symbol of 77 , so I see this scar as representative of my ability to love.
Today, I am completely healthy. 78 I still go to the hospital for yearly check-ups, my heart condition does not make my life worse. I’m able to 79 any physical activity that I please without worries. If it weren’t for my scars, nobody would know I am any different from the next person.
The thing is, I love my scars. I wear them as badges of bravery and survival. They’re conversation starters. I often feel angry when people complain about their scars and I wonder why they would want to hide their best stories. I wonder why they call their survival an imperfection (不完美). If you have a scar, big or small, be 80 of it. It’s part of who you are.
