Now, studying online has become a common way of learning. The biggest difference between studying online and studying in school is that our teachers can’t ▲ us all the time, so we should be able to control ourselves. I didn’t know this at first. During our online classes, I often got distracted by my mobile phone.
For this reason, I didn’t do well in the midterm exam. At that time, I realized that I had to do something to improve my online study habits, so I made up my mind to concentrate (集中注 意力) on the online classes. Finally, I made much progress in the final exam.
Now I want to offer you some ways I used to improve my learning during the online classes. Firstly, make a list of what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. Try your best to follow it. Don’t set your aims too high at first, because proper aims can help you to make the list work. Secondly, keep your mobile phones out of your reach when you study. Give them to your parents if necessary. Thirdly, make efforts to review and overcome your shortcomings in the process of review. You can ask your teachers for help or work with your classmates.
In general, we should stick to keeping good learning habits all the time. I hope that all students can study better both online and offline.

For 16﹣year﹣old Ma Yifei, the violin performance of the Beijing 2022 Olympic theme song, Snowflake, was her best present for Paralympians (残奥运动员) all over the world. Even though snowflakes are related to winter, she let others feel warmth, hope and light through her performance.
Ma went blind at the age of two because of an illness. She became interested in music when she was young. She started to learn to play the piano at five and the violin at nine, experiencing the “colorful” music through sound and emotion.
Ma’s mother Ha Chunyan, a former music teacher in a primary school, helped her memorize the music score (乐谱) before she played the piano. Ma could not see the keys and always played the wrong notes. It took her thousands of tries to play a piece correctly.
Learning the violin was more challenging. Ma needed to feel the teacher hands, arms and back to learn the movements, and listen to the strings (弦) over and over again to feel the muscles (肌肉) herself.
“After three years of learning, she still could not make any sound except terrible noises,” said Ha, who advised her daughter to give up the violin. But Ma said, “As I’ve been practising so long, it’s hard to give up I believe I will play better if I persist in practising.”
In 2018, Ma got a chance to follow Sheng Yuan and Cao Yuhan, famous musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music, to study music in Beijing. She left her home in Ningxia to follow her musical dream, though she knew there would be more challenges ahead.

Wild boars (野猪) in country areas around Beijing are destroying the good harvest. Main character in this chapter: “I”—Juli Baker(a teenage girl)
The next morning, I raced to the bus stop extra early and climbed the tree. I caught the sun rising through the clouds, sending stripes of fire from one end of the world to the other.
Then I heard a noise below. I looked down, and parked right below me were two trucks. There were four men standing around talking, and I almost called down to them, “I’m sorry, but you can’t park there…That’s a bus stop!” Just at that time, one of the men reached into the back of a truck and started taking out tools. Gloves. Ropes. A chain. And then chain saws(电锯). Three chain saws. Then one of the kids who rides the bus showed up and started talking to them, and pretty soon he was pointing up at me.
One of the men called, “Hey! You’d better come down from there. We’re going to take this thing down.”
I held on to the tree tightly(牢固地), because suddenly it felt as though I might fall. I managed to cry out, “The tree ”
“Yeah, now come on down.”
“But who told you to cut it down ”
“The owner!” he called back.
“But why ”
“Because he’s going to build himself a house, and this tree is in the way. Now come on, girl, we’ve got work to do!”
By that time most of the kids had gathered for the bus. They weren’t saying anything to me, just looking up at me and turning from time to time to talk to each other. My heart was crazy with fear. I couldn’t leave and let them cut down the tree! I cried, “You can’t cut it down! You just can’t!”
One of the men shook his head and said, “I am this close to calling the police. Now are you going to come down or are we going to cut you down ”
The bus was three blocks away. I’d never missed school for any reason other than illness, but I knew in my heart that this time was different. “You’re going to have to cut me down!” I cried. Then I had an idea. They’d never cut it down if all of us were in the tree. “Hey, guys!” I called to my classmates. “Get up here with me! They can’t cut it down if we’re all up here!”
One by one, the kids just shook their heads and got on the bus.

The night was stormy and the rest of the family were already in their bedrooms. Catherine crossed the hall and listened to the strong wind and heavy rain outside the ancient abbey(大寺院). She was scared when the wind shut a door. She felt even more scared as she imagined all the awful situations. Catherine was happy to be at her friends’ house. “I’m perfectly safe in this house. Eleanor’s room is near mine so I mustn’t be afraid.” she thought.
She opened her bedroom door, saw a cheerful fire and was glad to be inside her room and not in the storm. Then she noticed the curtains were moving. As she walked to the windows to make sure there wasn’t a ghost behind them, she sang a little song to give her courage. She pulled back the curtains and looked behind them. Of course it was only the wind! She noticed an old box near the window. Now, Catherine, don’t start imagining what’s in that! Silly girl!
She started to get ready for bed but she noticed a tall, black cupboard in the corner of the room. That can’t be the black cupboard Henry told me in his ghost story! Catherine picked up her candle and slowly walked towards the cupboard. It’s black and old, just like the cupboard Henry told me! Catherine saw the key was in the door and couldn’t help opening it to see what was inside. She could not sleep until she knew what was in that cupboard, but she was very afraid as she tried to open it. Very afraid but not discouraged, at last, the key turned, but she still couldn’t open the door.

You might not be familiar with the name Beverly Cleary, but perhaps you have read one of her books--Ramona the Pest, Dear Mr Henshaw, too, she changed the world of children’s books.
As a child, Cleary had trouble learning to read. Even after she had learned to love reading, she still found many books boring. The girl felt like the people she was reading about had little to do with her or her life. She wanted to read funny books about children like herself.
When she grew up, Cleary became a librarian. One day, some boys leaned across the counter and asked her, “Where are the books about kids like us ” Cleary realized there weren’t many books about ordinary kids. So she set out to write some. Her first book, Henry Huggins, tells the story of a boy and the stray dog that he takes in. Huggins is just an ordinary third-grader, but the book soon became a hit.
Cleary went on to write more books about Huggins and the other children in his neighborhood. From this neighborhood, “Ramona the Pest” became Cleary’s best-known character. Ramona is curious and stubborn. She is always getting into trouble. Whenever Ramona gets into trouble, it’s often funny, but it’s also something most kids can understand. Cleary knew what it really felt like to be a kid.
Unlike many other children’s authors, Cleary liked to focus on real-life problems. In several of her books, the parents have money problems or are unhappy with their jobs. Cleary dealt with these situations with a gentle sense of humour and a deep understanding.
Cleary created over 40 books in all. More than 91 million copies of her books have been sold. The great author died at the age of 104 on March 25, 2021. Although she is no longer with us, her characters and stories will continue to be loved by many for years to come.

An author once said, “We live far happier lives when we are generous in as many ways as possible.”
Here’s an example of my own: I love persimmons. They make me happy. The sweet, bright orange fruit was the symbol of autumn in Iran, where I grew up; they also grow in California, where I now live. A few years ago, preparing to travel from San Francisco to Boston, I packed two persimmons, one of which I ate in the flight departure lounge, waiting to board the plane.
A lady came up and asked from which store in the airport the fruit was bought. She looked a bit disappointed hearing that it couldn’t be bought from any airport vendor and returned to her seat. I thought to myself I can give the second persimmon away. When I offered her the fruit, she at first refused, but when I insisted, she was glad and appreciatively accepted. I was so happy to have made someone else happy, and that, I thought, was the end of the story.
Sometime during the flight, the lady caught up with me to thank me again for the persimmon. She shared that she had grown up in Japan, where there was a persimmon tree in the yard of her childhood home. She now lived in Boston, where she hadn’t been able to find the fruit. The taste of this one persimmon was precious to her, reconnecting her with memories of her parents and grandparents the way only our senses of taste and smell are able, as if magically.
Only then did the tiny act make a difference to me. As a famous saying goes “Giving is receiving”. I am moved by it to this day, and the taste of the persimmon that I offered to the lady gives me more joy than all the ones I have eaten.
My experience is not unique. Research has shown that acts of generosity for others make us happier than treating ourselves. A 2008 study found that despite participants’ predictions to the contrary, giving money to someone else increased their own happiness more than spending it on themselves.
47.From the passage, what can we know about persimmons
A.They can grow in Boston. B.They are a kind of oranges.
C.They are usually harvested in fall. D.They sell well in California.
48.Why did the lady thank the author twice for the persimmon
A.Because she wanted to have a talk with the author.
B.Because she knew the author liked persimmons.
C.Because she recalled memories with her family.
D.Because she found the persimmon very delicious.
49.What is the purpose of the study of the last part of the text

Once upon a time, there was a huge crab (螃蟹) living in the mountains.
One day, the crab decided to return to the ocean. While he was moving to the sea, the whole earth shook.
An old man felt the land shake. He shouted loudly to his villagers, “We must build a raft! Quickly! Quickly!”
“Why should we do that ” asked one of them.
“Because he is so massive that when he dives into the ocean, it will cause a flood!” The old man replied, “We must build a raft big enough to hold all of us and many animals!”
The villagers accepted his warning and began working together. Some of them cut down trees, while others were busy building the raft. After seeing what villagers did, the animals of the forest sensed that danger was coming, so they joined in the work as well. The monkeys and the water buffalo wove (编) ropes, while the horses and the tiny mouse deer helped to pull trees from the forest. Finally, the old man tied one end of the rope to the raft and the other end to a big tree.

But the raft suddenly came to a stop because of the rope which was tied to the tree. People and animals hugged together for warmth. They sang to keep their spirits when they floated on the raft.
The crab finally settled on the sea-bottom. Soon after, the sea level returned to its original position, and the passengers found themselves back on land. Both humans and animals were happy to be alive! They turned to the old man, “Thanks for saving us by getting us to build a raft!”

Isatou grew up in a small village of N’jau, the Gambia—the smallest country in Africa. She lived with her sisters, brothers and her parents, and from a young age was interested in recycling. She would even use left-over cloth to make toys! Sadly, her father passed away when she was just 10 years old, and Isatou left school to support her family.
When Isatou was little, she would carry a basket to the market. When it broke, she found a plastic bag to use—it worked a treat!
But the plastic bags soon caused problems. People couldn’t deal with them properly and they were simply thrown out and started to cover the streets. They spread diseases, and were eaten by livestock (家禽) who often died as a result.

The purses were sold at a city market—and people loved them! Within a year, 50 more women joined them, with the money the women made, some of their children were able to continue with education.
The recycling group was known as the ‘one plastic bag’ action, and Isatou was known as ‘The Queen of Recycling’! Years later, a book about her life came out. Because of her achievements, Isatou received the Difference Maker Award(奖) and the Inspiration Award in 2020.

But after forty days without a fish, the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now exactly and finally salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.
It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and be always went down to help him carry fishing tools.
The old man was thin with deep wrinkles (皱纹) in the back of his neck. His hands had the deep scars (疤) from dealing with heavy fish. But none of these scars were fresh.
Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same colour as the sea and were cheerful and full of confidence.

The old man had taught the boy to fish and the boy loved him. “No.” the old man said. “You’re with a lucky boat. Stay with them.”
“But remember how you went eighty-seven days without fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks.”

Seventy-year-old Dong Decai is one of the victims (受害人) of the animals that ate up nearly one-third of his corn crops in the Sisi Village last week. The same thing happened in the village near the Badaling section of the Great Wall. One villager named Song said on Friday that many of his corn crops were ruined (毁灭) and there were lots of strange footprints left behind, reported the Beijing Times.
Wild boars left a lot of footprints. On Friday, the sound of firecrackers (鞭炮) in the village could be heard far away. “The firecrackers can drive boars away,” said Song. As the environment of Beijing improves, wildlife populations, including boars and pheasants (野鸡), in some mountainous villages are growing.
Forestry people said farmers’ crops were destroyed by wild animals, and they would receive compensation from the government, the Beijing News reported. Last year, 17,200 yuan ($2,080) was paid to farmers in the Pianpoyu and Shuikouzi villages in Yanqing. Boars used to appear sometimes, but they are now appearing in large numbers. With no natural enemies in the area such as wolves, their numbers are growing.

A.To give an example. B.To make readers believe the author’s view.
C.To make a comparison. D.To share the experience.
50.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A.I Love Persimmons B.An Unforgettable Flight
C.A Lovely Lady D.The Impact of a Tiny Act of Generosity

Finally, the raft was ready. Not long after, this big crab completed his journey and jumped into the sea! Suddenly, the huge waves flooded the land. The villagers and animals climbed onto the life raft, which was swept away by the rushing water. People and animals were all in fear!

As an adult, Isatou joined the US Peace Corps as a volunteer—here, she learned more about recycling. She was also inspired to make a change...Could those throwaway plastic bags become something that helped her village
Joined by five friends, Isatou had an idea to weave (编织) plastic bags into purses. The bags were cleaned and dried, and took eight hours to weave into a purse!
