1. Looking back at these past four years回顾过去的这4年
I remember many things我记得很多事情
look back at意为“回顾”。
※ Every time I look back at my childhood, I cannot help missing my dear grandma.
每当回忆童年生活,我总是忍不住想念我亲爱的祖母。
2. Trying to be on time for morning readings努力按时参加早读
in time和on time都可在句中作状语,但二者意思不同。
on time意为“准时”;in time 意为“及时”。

excite意为“使激动;使兴奋”,为及物动词,其名词形式为excitement,形容词形式有两个,用法如下:
※ Don’t excite yourself! Relax! 不要激动!放松点!
※ Surfing is an exciting sport. 冲浪是一项令人兴奋的运动。
※ I’m so excited. 我非常兴奋。
exciting 一般形容事物或事情,强调被修饰的物或事使人很激动
excited 一般形容人,强调被修饰的人很激动
4. The many long hours of training 长时间的训练
Pride of overcoming fear克服恐惧的骄傲
pride为名词,意为“自豪,骄傲”;常用搭配为take pride in或be the pride of。
proud为形容词,意为“自豪,骄傲”;常用搭配为be proud of。
※ He showed us his new house with great pride.
他非常骄傲地给我们看他的新家。
※ We take pride in it. 我们为这件事感到自豪。
overcome为动词,意为“克服,战胜” (overcame, overcome)
※ We can and must overcome our shortcomings.
我们能够,而且必须克服我们的缺点。

5. I remember starting day one 我记得第一天开始
The shyest in my whole class 我是全班最腼腆的人
remember doing sth.意为“记得做过某事”,表示动作已经发生
remember to do sth. 意为“记着去做某事”,表示动作尚未发生
※ Please remember to write to us when you get there.
到那儿时请记得给我们写信。
※ I remember telling you about it once.

6. Preparing for art festivals为艺术节做准备
And making a great big mess 搞得一团糟
prepare for 意为“为……做准备”.
prepare此处用作不及物动词,意为“使(自己)有准备”,其名词形式为preparation,意为“准备;预备“;
※ Life is full of challenges. We should hope for the best and prepare
for the worst. 生活充满挑战,我们应该怀最好的希望,做最坏的准备。
make a mess意为“搞得一团糟”
※ Don’t make a mess of things in your room.
不要把你房间的东西弄得一团糟。
prepare还可用作及物动词,意为“准备”,常见用法有:
prepare sth.意为“准备某物”,其后常接名词或代词作宾语,表示准备的内容。
※ Our teacher is preparing the lessons. 我们的老师正在备课。
prepare to do sth.意为“准备做某事”。
※ Taking out a piece of paper, he prepared to write to his parents.
他拿出一张纸,准备给他的父母写信。

I’m trying to keep my cool 我努力让自己冷静
keep one’s cool 意为“沉住气;保持冷静”。
※ “I must keep my cool,” she thought. “Losing my temper isn’t going to help.” 她想:“我要保持冷静,发脾气是不会起作用的。”
keep cool意思相似的于keep one’s cool。
keep cool中的cool用作形容词,而keep one’s cool中的cool为名词。

Grammer points
1. 一般现在时
用法: 表示过去某一具体时间里发生的动作或存在的状态, 也表示过去某段时间内习惯性、经常性的动作。
时间状语: yesterday、last week、just now、one day等。
※ The famous film star helped many poor children last year.
去年这位著名的电影明星帮助了很多贫困儿童。
2. 一般过去时
用法: 表示将来某个时间将要发生的动作或存在的状态; 表示打算、计划、准备做某事或事情的必然性。
时间状语: tomorrow、soon、next week、in a few minutes等。
※ The volunteers will do their best to help those poor people.
志愿者们会尽他们的最大努力帮助那些穷人。
3. 一般将来时
注意:以下两种情况常用一般现在时表示将来:
(1)表示按时间表拟定的或安排好就要发生的事情或动作;
(2)在时间状语从句和条件状语从句中。
用法: 表示现在(说话瞬间)正在发生的动作, 还表示当前一段时间内的活动或现阶段一直进行的动作。
时间状语: now、right now、at the moment、look、listen等。
构成: am/is/are+动词的现在分词。
※ Listen! Some birds are singing in the tree.
听!一些鸟正在树上唱歌。
4. 现在进行时
用法: 表示过去某时间段内或某一时刻正在发生、进行的动作或存在的状态。
构成: was/were+动词的现在分词。
时间状语: at that moment、this time yesterday、yesterday等。
※ At that time David was working in Sydney.
那时戴维正在悉尼工作。
5. 过去进行时
用法: 表示说话之前已经完成了的动作, 而且这个动作对现在仍有影响, 还可表示过去已经开始, 持续到现在的工作或状态。
构成: have/has+动词的过去分词
时间状语: already、yet、in the past years、by now、so far、since/for等。
※ He has learnt English for four years.
他已经学了四年的英语。
