故填which。

故填to break。

Directions: Read the following two passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
It was near the end of summer in my 16th year. I was riding in the back seat of a large van heading down an endless road. I was at the end of a two-week road trip with several other teenagers to visit a college in Iowa. Along the way I had spent several days in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and on the road, I felt tired, isolated, and homesick. It was the longest that I had ever been away from my family.
I glanced out of my window and suddenly my heart leapt. There, in the distance, I could see them: the beautiful mountains of my home. After days and days on the dry, brown plains I finally saw the green hills in which I had grown up again. As we got closer and closer to those green mountains I felt myself becoming happier and happier. My face lit up and my smile returned. Warmth filled my spirit. It felt so good to be going home. It was such a joy to be heading back to the place where I was raised. It was such a blessing to finally know that I was almost back where I belonged.
Looking back on that memory makes me wonder what it will be like when I finally return to my true home. Even for the longest life, this world is just a temporary residence. It is a place that we learn, love and grow in, but it isn’t really home. Our true home lies beyond this world and its love, joy and beauty cannot be described in words. It is where our family awaits us.
Until I reach that blessed place, though, I will do my best to enjoy each day of life’s journey here. I will do my best to use every moment to get a little closer to home. I will do my best to travel through life with a loving heart, a pleasant smile and a giving spirit.

Ever stopped to consider the upside of volcanic eruptions It’s not all death, destruction and hot lava — scientists have a plan to cool the planet by simulating one. It would probably work, but it could have disastrous consequences, and there is nothing to stop any country or company from using the technology.
Solar geoengineering involves simulating a spewing volcano by spraying aerosols into the atmosphere. When they combine with oxygen, droplets of sulfuric acid form. These droplets reflect sunlight away from Earth, cooling the planet. All good in theory, but the consequences are largely unknown and a few could be disastrous. In a study recently published in Nature Communications, researchers led by Anthony Jones, a climate scientist from the University of Exeter, found that using this technology in the Northern Hemisphere could reduce the number of tropical cyclones hitting the U.S. and Caribbean but there would be more cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere and a drought across the Sahel region of Africa. That’s because the entire climate system is linked — disrupting one region will inevitably affect another. How would a nation react if another was causing its weather to get much worse Would that be an act of war
There is, however, a case for using solar geoengineering on a global scale. Jones says it could be used to reduce the temperature increases scientists are predicting. It could be used while the world searches for more effective strategies.
The study also highlights a far bigger problem with solar geoengineering: its complete lack of regulation. “There’s nothing that could stop one country just doing it,” Jones says. “You only need about 100 aircraft with three flights per day. It would cost $1 billion to $10 billion per year.” He adds, “It’s deeply disconcerting that we have this technology that could have such a massive influence on the climate, yet there’s just no regulation to stop countries or even organizations from doing it.”
Jones cautions that there is much about the climate system we do not understand, as well as far more work that will need to be done before solar geoengineering is considered safe — or too dangerous to even discuss.
58. The first paragraph is intended to _________.
A. compare downsides and upsides of volcanic eruptions
B. propose a hypothesis and prove it in the rest of the passage
C. give a blueprint of the passage and arouse readers’ interest
D. raise a question and tempt readers to find the solution in the passage
59. According to the research by Anthony Jones and his team, using solar geoengineering ________.
A. will benefit the countries applying them with almost no cost
B. can reduce the temperature of the planet simply by spraying aerosol into the air
C. will destroy the balance of the whole climate system and raise conflicts
D. can calm various natural disasters such as tropical cyclones and droughts
60. The underlined word “disconcerting” is closest in meaning to _________.
A. confusing B. disturbing C. acceptable D. disappointing
61. The writer is likely to agree that _________.
A. solar geoengineering is good both in theory and in reality
B. solar geoengineering is the last choice scientists should turn to
C. relevant laws should be drafted up to avoid the abuse of solar geoengineering
D. whether solar geoengineering benefits humans or not depends on where and how people use it
B 59. C 60. B 61. C

根据第一段“Ever stopped to consider the upside of volcanic eruptions It’s not all death, destruction and hot lava — scientists have a plan to cool the planet by simulating one. It would probably work, but it could have disastrous consequences, and there is nothing to stop any country or company from using the technology. (曾经停下来思考过火山爆发的好处吗?地球上不全是死亡、毁灭和熔岩——科学家们计划通过模拟火山来给地球降温。它可能会起作用,但可能会带来灾难性的后果,没有任何东西可以阻止任何国家或公司使用这项技术)”可推知,第一段目的是提出一个假设,并在文章的其余部分证明它。故选B。
【59题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“In a study recently published in Nature Communications, researchers led by Anthony Jones, a climate scientist from the University of Exeter, found that using this technology in the Northern Hemisphere could reduce the number of tropical cyclones hitting the U.S. and Caribbean but there would be more cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere and a drought across the Sahel region of Africa. That’s because the entire climate system is linked — disrupting one region will inevitably affect another. How would a nation react if another was causing its weather to get much worse Would that be an act of war
根据画线词后文“we have this technology that could have such a massive influence on the climate, yet there’s just no regulation to stop countries or even organizations from doing it.”
根据倒数第二段中“The study also highlights a far bigger problem with solar geoengineering: its complete lack of regulation.(这项研究还强调了太阳能地球工程的一个更大的问题:它完全缺乏监管)”可知,作者很可能同意“应起草相关法律以避免太阳能地球工程的滥用”的说法。故选C。

Immersive Art Draws People In
With bold, swirling brushstrokes (绘画技巧) and vivid colors, Vincent van Gogh’s stirring Starry Night brings to life a turbulent (汹涌的) sky. It’s one of the most recognizable paintings in the world. And gazing at the scenic canvas can make museum visitors feel starstruck.
But seeing this masterpiece on a gallery wall isn’t the only way art fans can experience its impact ____62____. They find themselves surrounded by shimmering colors that dance before their eyes and ripple (涟漪) at their feet. These exhibitions digitally project moving images onto walls, floors, and sometimes onto viewers themselves. They are examples of immersive art.
____63____. While it can be hard to characterize, it’s generally a multisensory, an interactive event that engages viewers and lets them feel like part of the artwork. One thing is certain — these exhibitions have been wildly popular — selling out tickets in cities worldwide.
Van Gogh gained fame only after his death. In fact, the 19th-century painter sold just one painting during his lifetime. But now he is immersive art’s biggest superstar. His work has been showcased in various exhibitions featuring immense images. ____64____. One show, Van Gogh Alive, has appeared in 65 countries since 2011. It even features a signature scent for visitors to sniff. Shows of other artists — including Monet, Renoir, and Chagall — have lit up venues, too.
The popularity of immersive art has been powered party by social media. As visitors post selfies featuring van Gogh’s art or videos of friends stepping into a fantastical fridge, these experiences draw bigger and bigger crowds. ____65____. That’s because many curators and creators share a common goal — to help more people get into art!
A. Immersive art doesn’t simply mean sitting in a glass case or fitting in a frame.
B. The art work is animated and accompanied by music, voices, and background sound.
C. In fact, some exhibits give people a chance to be enveloped by van Gogh’s celebrated painting.
D. Meanwhile, traditional museums are following the trend and applying immersive technologies
E. Critics once described his work as a multidimensional mystery house leading to secret passages.
F. More important is the ability to bridge the gap between traditional art spaces and modern audiences.
C 63. A 64. B 65. D

Sales Strategies
How can a company improve its sales One of the keys to more effective selling is for a company to first decide on its “sales strategy”. In other words, what is the role of the salesperson Is the salesperson’s job narrative, suggestive, or consultive
The “narrative” sales strategy depends on the salesperson moving quickly into a standard sales presentation. His or her pitch highlights the benefit for the customer of a particular product or service. This approach is most effective for customers whose buying motives are basically the same and is also well suited to companies who have a large number of prospects on which to call.
The “suggestive” approach is tailored more for the individual customer. The salesperson must be in a position to offer alternative recommendations that meet a particular customer’s needs. One key aspect of the suggestive approach is the need for the salesperson to engage the buyer in some sort of discussion. The salesperson can then use the information from the customer to suggest an appropriate product or service.
The final strategy demands that a company’s sales staff act as “consultants” for the buyer. In this role, the salesperson must acquire a great deal of information about the customer. They do this through market research, surveys, and face-to-face discussions. Using this information, the salesperson makes a detailed presentation tailored specifically to a consumer’s needs.
More and more sales teams are switching from a narrative or a suggestive approach to a more consultative strategy. As a result, corporations are looking more at intangibles (无形资产) such as creativity and analytical skills and less at educational background and technical skills.

There are three types of sales strategies to improve sales. The narrative strategy means salespeople promoting products with standard presentations. The suggestive approach requires salespeople to recommend a suitable product to a customer through discussion. The consultive strategy demands that salespeople get information about customers and act as their “consultants”. Nowadays more sales teams prefer the consultive approach. (59words)

(adapt)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
The film adapted from this novel was highly popular among young people in the 1990s.

此处引导让步状语从句,表示“虽然”应用while,从句表示“反复试验的结果”用the result of trial and error,作主语;表示“与我们的期待大相径庭”翻译为be totally different from/contrary to what we expected,为一般现在时和一般过去时;主句主语为we;表示“相信”应用believe that...;表示“越……越……”应用the+比较级,the+比较级,表示“探索”应用explore,表示“可能成功”应用be likely to succeed,为一般现在时或一般将来时。故翻译为While the result of trial and error is totally different from/contrary to what we expected, we believe that the more we explore, the more likely we are to/will succeed.

B. propose a hypothesis and prove it in the rest of the passage
C. give a blueprint of the passage and arouse readers’ interest

A. will benefit the countries applying them with almost no cost
B. can reduce the temperature of the planet simply by spraying aerosol into the air
C. will destroy the balance of the whole climate system and raise conflicts
D. can calm various natural disasters such as tropical cyclones and droughts
60. The underlined word “disconcerting” is closest in meaning to _________.
A. confusing B. disturbing C. acceptable D. disappointing
61. The writer is likely to agree that _________.
A. solar geoengineering is good both in theory and in reality

Immersive Art Draws People In

These exhibitions digitally project moving images onto walls, floors, and sometimes onto viewers themselves. They are examples of immersive art.
____63____. While it can be hard to characterize, it’s generally a multisensory, an interactive event that engages viewers and lets them feel like part of the artwork. One thing is certain — these exhibitions have been wildly popular — selling out tickets in cities worldwide.
