Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying “Friends are God's way of taking care of us.” But how do you find real friendship and keep it
The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed and take care of it to make it grow.
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a Good friend It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you can not be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives. But things cannot always be happy. Even the best have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you could write a letter. There are three steps to being friends again:
Tell him or her how you are feeling say what your friend has done wrong, and explain why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.

Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. “I was a clothes addict.” he jokes. “I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled.” Today David wears casual clothes—khaki pants and a sports shirt—to the office. He hardly ever wears a necktie. “I am working harder than ever.” David says, “and I need to feel comfortable.”
More and more companies are allowing their office workers to wear casual clothes to work. In the United States, the change from formal to casual office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday(but only on Friday). This became known as “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday”. “What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing.” said business consultant Maisly Jones.
Why have so many companies started allowing their employees to wear casual clothes One reason is that it’s easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code.” “A lot of young people don’t want to dress up for work,” says the owner of a software company, “so it’s hard to hire people if you have a conservative(保守的)dress code.” Another reason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study conducted by Levi Strauss and Company, 85 percent of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employee morale(心境,士气). Only 4 percent of employers said that casual dress has a negative influence on productivity. Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money. “Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day,” one person said. “For the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes.”
31. David Smith refers to himself as having been “a clothes addict,” because __________ .

D. he didn’t want to spend much money on clothes
32. David Smith wears casual clothes now, because__________ .
A. they make him feel at ease when working
B. he cannot afford to buy expensive clothes
C. he looks handsome in casual clothes
D. he no longer works for any company
33. In this passage, the following advantages of casual office wear are mentioned EXCEPT__________ .
A. saving employees’ money
B. making employees more attractive
C. improving employees’ motivation
D. making employees happier
34. According to this passage, which of the following statements is false
A. Many employees don’t like a conservative dress code.

C. A casual clothes code is welcomed by young employees.
D. All the employers in the US are for casual office wear.

Giving directions in different places
If you ask people of different countries "Could you tell me the way to the post office?",you will get different answers.
In Japan, people use landmarks instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers,"Go straight down to the corner. 36 The post office is across from the bus stop."
In Kansas,America, there are no towns or buildings within*miles. So instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distance. For example, people will say,"Go north two miles 37 "
People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions. They will often say,"Follow me." 38 Sometimes if a person doesn't know the answer to your question,he or she, like a New Yorker, might say,"Sorry,I have no idea." But in Yucatan,Mexico,no one answers " I don't know". 39 They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one. A visitor can often get lost in Yucatan!
40 You might not understand a person's words, but maybe you can understand his or her body language. He or she will usually point to the correct direction. Go on in that direction and you may find the post office!
A.Turn east, and then go another mile. B.But one thing will help you everywhere. C.People there think "I don't know." is not polite. D.Turn left at a big hotel and go past a fruit market.
