背景信息
Water scarcity in AfricaWater scarcity remains a serious issue in partsof Africa for years, especially in North Africa. In Africa, millions of people can't get access toclean drinking water, and they are living in areas
with poor sanitation services. Moreover, water availability, access and optimaluse in Africa are not promising. Only 5% ofAfrica's cultivated land is irrigated and less than10% of hydropower potential is utilised forelectricity generation. The reasons for water scarcity in Africa arecomplicated.Frequent droughts due to global warming anddeforestation have shrunk lakes and changedrainfall patterns.
Traditional irrigation technology andagriculture have caused a good sum of waterwaste.
Growing population and urbanisation haveincreased the domestic and industrial waterconsumption, which can't be fully supportedby poor intrastructure.
