Dear Editor,
I am writing to inquire about the status of the article I submitted to the new column “Heritage in Danger” in our school’s English newspaper one month ago.
Titled “Helping the Wooden Pagoda”, my article delves into the urgent situation facing the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County, aiming to uncover the factors contributing to its damage and advocate the public take action to protect and repair the pagoda. In addition, I signed my name and class at the bottom of my article.
Could you kindly update me on the status of my submission I am eager to know if you have received my article or if any revisions are needed. Looking forward to your earliest reply.
Sincerely,
Li Hua

Sara was lost in thought and decided to make some changes. In the following weeks, she wouldn’t throw her bag or her belongings on the floor randomly. Instead, keeping her room tidy became an essential part of her daily routine. Sara swept her room and managed to keep her things in order. She even removed dead leaves and flowers and watered the plants in her garden. Sara’s parents were happy to see all of that. They took Sara to the animal shelter and adopted a dog.
With the dog’s company, Sara began her busy but joyful life. She prepared a little warm doghouse. Every morning, Sara got up early and walked the dog. She made plentiful food and washed the dog carefully. Sara also cleaned the doghouse every day. Though life was busy, smile always appeared on Sara’s face. Aware of what the dog had brought to Sara, her parents were extremely relieved, watching Sara playing happily with the dog. The family became a different one filled with laughter, warmth and happiness.

M: Hello. My sister and I are here for a vacation. We'd like to rent a car here.
W: All right. Is that for a week
M: No. It'll be for ten days.
W: Okay. There is a nice large car available at the moment.
M: Well, there are just the two of us, so we don't need a big car.
W: I see. By the way, will both of you drive
M: No, just me. My sister doesn't have a driver's license.
W: Okay. I have a nice, medium size car. How's that

M: I know you're a staff working here. Would you please tell me how much I should pay to learn playing golf
W: Actually, we are starting a new work exchange program. If you work as a caddie, you get free classes.
M: Sounds good, but what's a caddie I mean, I'm okay with hard work and free classes, but I always thought a caddie was a type of car.
W: You're thinking of Cadillac cars that are sometimes called caddies. In fact, a caddie in the golf world is a person who carries a player's equipment while the players play and offers help according to the rules.
M: I see. My summer vacation will begin next week and I need something to do. My mom says that she doesn't want me to be home watching television for three months. And there are many golf words that I don't know. It would be hard to understand these golf words unless I play the game.
W: That's right. I used to watch the players at the golf course near my house. Every weekend, they saw me there until one day they finally offered me free lessons. And here I am today, teaching others!
Text 9
M: Mary, you look much different from what you were in middle school.
W: Well, I got tired of that blonde hair, so I decided to have a red head! Besides, I lost a lot of weight, and I'm really trying hard to keep it off as I don't want to look like what I used to be in high school again!
M: You are great. By the way, do you live here And what do you do
W: I'm a lawyer in Brookfield, the next town. I just come out here on weekends to do my shopping. What about you
M: I sell insurance, but I'm actually working in Springfield. We're looking to open a new office here in Covington, so that's why I'm out here.
W: Do you like your job
M: Well, I make a nice living with the salary I've got from work, but it's really boring work. I wish I could change careers. What about you
W: I actually have the opposite problem. I work for an environmental law firm. The work is exciting, but the pay is quite low, so I'm basically living hand to mouth every month.
M: That sounds like a fair trade, boring work with nice salary and exciting work with low pay.
Text 10
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Charles White and I'm running for governor of this wonderful state. I hope the following minutes will help you get to know me. My ideas are simple, but my dreams for our state and for our country are great. For example, I feel that every city in our state should have a good public school system. The future of our children is extremely important. To get money for new educational programs and better schools, I intend to ask the President to decrease the money our country spends on personnel and equipment for the army. I do not think a country must have an army ranked number one. Also, I intend to increase the number of state police officers. And there will be more money for police cars on the streets of every town. And I will pass a law so that guns can no longer be sold in stores. Then our state will become safe. And for taxes, some people suggest increasing the taxes on wine and gas. However, I do not believe in increasing taxes. If it is indeed necessary, I think we should increase taxes on cigarettes. These are only part of my plans and I think I will be an excellent governor. I hope you will pay attention to me. Thank you.According to scientists, the builders were skilled Egyptian workers who lived in a nearby
temporary city.Boatmen used the Nile and a network of artificial waterways to bring materials to
the Giza Plateau, including copper cutting tools from the Sinai Peninsula and timber()from
Lebanon. To sustain the workers, they also delivered cattle from farms near the Nile Delta.
Communities across Egypt probably contributed workers,as well as food and other essentials.
It's generally believed that the Egyptians moved massive stone blocks to the heights along large
ramps(),using a system of ropes, rollers, and levers. Some suggest exterior ramps around each
pyramid were applied, while a more controversial theory suggests internal ramps were used.Perhaps
future imaging technology will reveal how Egyptian builders created these timeless monuments.
As the pyramids helped to build ancient Egypt, they also preserved it."Many people think of
the site as just a tomb in the modern sense, but it's a lot more than that,"says Harvard University
Egyptologist Peter Der Manuelian."Almost any subject you want to study about the Pharaonic
civilization is available on the tomb walls at Giza-so it's not just about how the ancient Egyptians
died but how they lived."
