Teaching Procedure
Step1 Review
show students pictures about problems. Then ask students “What’s wrong ” Student give the answer: I got into a fight with my best friend. What should I do Teacher answers : Why don’t you …
Students make up the conversations according to the pictures.
Step2 Present other ways to give advice
The teacher comes to the front of a student and asks: You look unhappy. What’s wrong with you The Student answer: I lost my keys. What should I do Teacher: you should/ could go to the school lost and found.
Write down the patterns on the blackboard and teach students to read the sentence patterns.
Ask the students to read the sentences together/ halves/groups., then read one by one.
Step3 Practice
Ask students to practice the conversation in group to talk about problems and give advice like this:
A: What’s wrong/the matter
B: I had a fight with my mother. What should I do
A:You should/ could write him a letter.
C: Why don’t you say sorry to her
Step4 Listen
Ask students to read the instruction in 2a so that they can know how to do it.
Look through the sentences in 2a before listening.
Play the tape . Students listen and finish 2a then check the answers.
Ask students to read the instruction in 2b so that they can know how to do it.
Play the tape again, students listen again and finish 2b.
Play the tape again, students read after the tape without books.
Step5 Practice
Ask students to make conversations between Peter and his friend, using the information in 2a and 2b.
Step6 Pole- play
students listen to the conversation in 2d and answer:
What’s wrong with Kim
What advice does Dave give to Kim
Students read the conversation in pairs. Then try to role play it.
Act it out in class.
Homework
