教学内容
教学重点: 如何清晰地陈述自己或他人的困难和麻烦( how to talk about problems ) 如何针对别人的困境提出解决的办法或建议( how to give advice )
教学难点: 在语境中感悟和体会词汇含义以及说话者的情绪将是一个难点;
2. 用所学的句型表达困难和麻烦或提出解决问题的办法或建议都指向学生沟通与表达能力素养的发展,也是本节课的难点。
教学过程
1.Free talk The teacher had a fight with his best friend. She/He encourages Ss to help solve the problem by using the structures“ Why not… Why don’t you… You could … and You should…”. 2.Skimming Ask Ss to skim the letters and find out who writes the letter and whom is the letter to Point out that “Sad and Thirteen”is the writer’s pen name.Introduce “school counselor” and “problem page”. Help Ss learn about the culture. 3.Predicting Ask Ss to predict what the problem is according to the picture.Present the new word “argue”and the useful expression “get on with”. Reading (the first letter) (1)Ask Ss to read the first letter and find out “What’s Sad and Thirteen’s problem ”. Point out that“family”here means his parents and elder brother. (2))Ask Ss to read again and find out why Sad and Thirteen can’t get on with his family and show the example.Draw a mind map step by step. (3)Ask Ss to read a third time and find out Sad and Thirteen’s feelings. Reading (the second letter) (1)Ask Ss to read the second letter and find out “What’s Robert Hunt’s advice ”. (2)Ask Ss to read again and find out Mr. Hunt’s specific advice on how to get on with his family and show the example.Draw a mind map step by step. (3)Ask Ss to read a third time and find out Mr. Hunt’s feelings. (4)Ask Ss to read Mr. Hunt’s feelings and hope aloud. Prompt Ss to think further about how to comfort others and how to give advice. 6.Discussion Ask Ss to read the two letters again individually.Then have Ss work in pairs to discuss “Do you agree or disagree with Mr. Hunt’s advice Why ”. And show their own opinions. 7.Further learning Before asking Ss to finish 3c, the teacher show an example first.Then ask Ss to find out which words or phrases in the letters have the same or similar meanings as the following. Find out the sentences in the letters. After that write sentences in their own words using each word or phrase. 8.Group Work Have Ss work in groups to discuss how to help Sad and Thirteen make a proper conversation with his parents and elder brother.Remind Ss to use the structures in the letters. 9.Homework Level 1 1. Read the two letters in 3a. Try to get the feelings when they write the letters. 2. Complete the mind map of 3a. Level 2 Help Sad and Thirteen make a proper conversation with his parents and his elder brother.
