教材分析
本课时内容人教版新目标初中英语教材八下Unit 4 ,该单元话题是“Interpersonal communication”, 功能是“Talk about problems and give advice”,本节课是Section B
部分的第二课时,该部分的学习将有利于学生的换位思考,建立正确的、积极的生活态度和价值观。2a的读前活动主要调查学生的课外活动,与2b的阅读篇章紧密相连。2c为读中活动,要求学生阅读文章,运用词义猜测法,理解每个新词所表达的意义,2b和2d要求细读,在理解文章基础上回答问题,从而用自己的话阐述不同人的观点和看法。2e是读后活动,要求学生根据生活经验和真实感受表达自己对课后活动的看法。这些阅读技巧的综合运用不仅能帮助学生快速理解和内化本单元的语言知识,也促进了学生通过对比感受到中西方文化的差异性,有利于文化意识的培养。
学情分析
初中阶段的学生有着各种各样的课后辅导班,鲜有自己的休息时间,他们渴望有着放松的时间。本节课的话题是课外活动,这个话题与学生实际生活紧密相关。本节课不仅会探讨减轻压力的方式,也会比较东西方家长对子女教育的态度和做法,所以话题内容学生会非常感兴趣,也会积极表达自己的观点,参与讨论。学生经过前面单元的学习已经掌握一定的阅读技巧,猜测词义是刚开始接触,可能比较困难。那么在今天比较熟悉的话题中,相信学生会很收获,不仅是语言知识的学习,更是文化差异的碰撞。
教学目标
(一)知识目标:
1.词汇:compete, typical, training, stress, continue, compare, development.
2.词组:learn exam skills, cut out, a mother of three, compare ... with ..., push ... hard, too much pressure.
3.句型:
① I think Wei Ming should…
② Although you may be…, you should talk to them.
③ Life shouldn’t just be about …
④ Why don’t they just let their kids be kids
⑤ Although it’s normal to want successful children, it’s even more important to have happy children.
(二)能力目标:
1.能运用所学语句或固定表达方式口语表达出自己的观点以及对别人的建议。
2.学会运用个阅读策略(guessing the meaning/scanning、skimming/careful reading/
summarizing),能理解文中新单词以及能根据文本细节信息和语篇语义,并运用文中的语言完成相关练习,提高文章理解能力。
(三)情感目标:
了解中西方家长对待孩子参加课外活动和课外学习班的态度与做法,有利于学生学会换位思考,帮助他们逐步建立正确、积极的生活态度和价值观。

七.教学过程
Step 1 Greeting and free talk
Ask Ss some questions:What do you usually do after school Do you go to any after-school classes Watch a video to lead in the new topic “after-school classes”
Let Ss think What kind of classes they have Show some pictures to lead in the new topic and get the Ss to be interested in this lesson.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Let the Ss predict what the article is about by looking at the title and the picture.
Step 3 While-reading
1.Task 1: Skim(略读)the passage to get the main idea of each paragraph by reading the first and the last sentences of each paragraph.Ss are given two minutes to finish the task.
Para1 Linda Miller’s opinion
Para2 Present situation in China
Para3 Doctors’ opinion.
Para4 Present situation in America
Check the answers together.
Reading skills: Pay much attention to the first/last sentence of each paragraph.
2.Task 2: Tell the Ss to scan the passage and find out the specific(具体的)information by the key words in the questions.
