教学目标
After this class, students will be able to: Tease out the words and phrases about the Chinese folk story of Yu Gong Moves the Mountains. Perceive the meaning of some conjunctions for adverbial clauses, such as “as soon as”, “so…that…”, “unless” and so on. (Learning and understanding) Retell the story of Yu Gong Moves the Mountains with proper conjunctions by using six elements of telling a story. (Learning and understanding) Evaluate and comment on Yu Gong Moves the Mountains and generate their own ideas about the story to develop their critical thinking. (Transferring and creating)
教学内容
教学重点: 1. Retell the story Yu Gong Moves the Mountains followed by some listening and speaking tasks.
2. Pay attention to the use of some conjunctions when retelling the story.
教学难点: 1. Grasp some useful skills when do listhening tasks.
2. Use the target language in natural speech.
教学过程
Pre-listening Lead-in: Show some pictures about Chinese folk stories and ask students if they are familiar with them. Guessing Game:A book opens and students will guess the name of each Chinese folk story according to some pictures and the introduction. Matching: Students will review the story titles by matching (1a). Justification Arouse students’ interest in learning English. Activate students’ previous knowledge. Teach students some key words and phrases.
While-listening(1b) Watch and check: Students are shown a video to let them guess which story they are going to learn today. Listen and answer: Listen and check (√) the facts you hear. Listen and match the pictures, and then fill the details to tell the story. After-listening: Student will discuss the story with their partners by using how, what and where questions to retell the beginning of the story. Pre-listening Read the pictures: Students will discuss the rest of the story according to the pictures in 2a. While-listening(2a-2b) Listen and number: Students will Listen and number the pictures [1-4] in order to tell the story. Listen and circle: Listen and circle the words you hear. (2b) Listen again and fulfill the blanks of the conversation to further know the development and ending of the story Yu Gong Moves the Mountains. Justification Improve students’ ability of listening for key words. Help students get the general idea of the story.
After-listening Students will be asked two questions as follows: Did Yu Gong give up moving the mountains What can you learn from the story Demonstrate the way to retell the story in six elements when, where, who, how, why and what. Justification Make students clear about the meaning of some conjunctions. Help students better understand the story in six elements.
Retelling Students will work in groups and retell the story with the help of pictures and conjunctions and sentence patterns. Justification Improve students’ speaking ability. Help students digest the target language and words.
Role-play the conversation (2d) Listen and answer: Do they have the same opinions Read and answer: Read the conversation and fill in the blanks Consolidate Fill the blanks to review the conversation. Justification Evaluate and comment on Yu Gong Moves the Mountains Be more confident in Chinese traditional culture.
Discussion Students will discuss in groups and share their ideas the story. What do you think of Yu Gong’s story What do you think of the character Yu Gong Justification Improve their speaking skills. Develop students’ critical thinking.
Homework 1. Retell the Chinese folk story Yu Gong Moves the Mountains to your friends in your own words. Search the Internet to find another traditional Chinese story and share it with us in English.
