(2024·山西晋中·二模)Books are one of the greatest inventions. From the furthest space to the smallest corners of a town, books allow readers to go anywhere that writers can imagine.
At Manchester’s Corn Exchange, a building with a rich history at the heart of the city, an interesting machine has been set up to help people read more books. It is a book vending machine (自动售货机) that offers free books to anyone.
To use this vending machine, book lovers are asked to bring their own books and give them away in return for tokens (代币). Then they can use a token to choose a book from the vending machine to read. The books you give away are finally placed in the machine for others to take their pick. It is a pretty simple process of reading, swapping, and repeating these steps over and over again.
Producing new books comes with some inevitable (不可避免的) environmental costs, such as the use of
large amounts of water and fuel (燃料). Many second-hand books still have great stories to tell. With clever ideas like the book vending machine, books can avoid going to waste and be enjoyed by more people.
6.Where is the book vending machine
A.In a small town. B.In the countryside. C.In a historic building.
7.How can book lovers use the book vending machine
A.By buying some tokens.
B.By giving away their own books.
C.By choosing some books to read.
8.What does the underlined word “swapping” probably mean
A.Exchanging. B.Protecting. C.Covering.

A.Because it’s free to read books.
B.Because it helps in protecting the environment.
C.Because it offers people second-hand books for free.

A.It is much easier to buy books than to borrow books.
B.People can share their books with others by using a machine.
C.The government should share useful ways of avoiding waste.

Haili Smith, 16, says she and her sister, Brooke, “have very different tastes in books.” Haili likes horror stories. Brooke, 13, prefers fantasy. What they share is the belief that kids are more likely to read if they are connected with a book’s characters. That’s why, in 2020, they started Books Like Me. The nonprofit group donates (捐赠) culturally different children’s books to schools.
“We didn’t really like reading a few years ago”, Haili told TIME for Kids. “[Then] we started to look for books that had characters we saw ourselves in. It made us want to read more. We thought we could share that with students, because we knew that this wasn’t something that changed us only.”
Haili and Brooke started with an Amazon Wish List of books they liked. They shared the list on social media, asking for donations of these titles. Soon, they began receiving boxes of new books to give away to schools. As word about their organization has spread, requests have come in from schools nationwide. So far, Haili and Brooke have given away more than 16, 000 books.
Anitra Carter teaches fourth grade at a primary school in Florida. She says donations from Books Like Me have gotten her students more interested in reading. “It excites them when seeing a character that may represent (代
表;象征) them or look similar to them,” Carter says.
Over the years, Haili and Brooke have been invited to speak with educators about the importance of culturally diverse books. They’ve also taken books directly to students. At a book fair in Florida, “I was at a table showing kids the books and they were picking them out,” Haili recalls. “They all looked so happy when they found a book that really resonated (共鸣) with them.”

四、任务型阅读
(2024·黑龙江鸡西·二模)Today I will tell you something important during your reading. You shouldn’t mark a book which isn’t yours. People who lend you books expect you to keep them clean. If you think it useful to mark books, you will have to buy them.
There are two ways in which one can own a book. The first is to get the book by paying for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But full ownership comes only when you have made it a part of yourself. The best way to make it a part of yourself is by writing in it.
There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the best sellers—unread and untouched. The second
has many books. But most of them are as clean as the day they were bought. The third has a few dog-eared (翻折的) books, which are marked from front to back.
Why is marking a book necessary First, it keeps you awake. In the second place, reading is thinking. And thinking can express itself in words, spoken or written. The marked book is usually the thought-through book. Finally, writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the writer expressed.
If reading is to learn anything more than passing time, it must be active. The book you read for pleasure can be read in a state of relaxation, and nothing is lost. But for a great book, rich in ideas, reading must be active. You can’t let your eyes move across the lines. You should come up with an understanding of what you have read.Answer the questions according to the passage.
42.What shouldn’t you do with a book which isn’t yours
43.How many ways in which one can own a book
44.What is the best way to make a book a part of yourself
45.How many kinds of book owners does the writer talk about
46.What should you do about what you have read
(2024·北京·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
I’m no literary Luddite (反对新技术的人). I bought an iPad with my first paycheck from my first full-time job after graduating from college. But after two years of reading occasionally on the device, I gave it away to my brother. It just wasn’t the right reading experience for me.
Technology lovers choose e-readers over books because e-readers are more convenient. They’re right. It is objectively easier to carry a 7oz (盎司) tablet with thousands and thousands of books at your fingertips than it is to carry five books in your bag, which is exactly what I did on vacation.
But I don’t read for convenience. I read to learn more about the world and myself. I have made friends by seeing a book cover in a cafe and noticing that it was the same title that I was reading. I can trace my life by the
books that have been my companions. When I open an old book and come across my previously scribbled notes — shaky ones when I’ve been reading on the subway, covered in sand if I read it at the beach, next to a train ticket if I was traveling — I am able to add an extra level of personal depth and experience to the story I am about to reread. It’s just not enough to simply consuming the story, which is what e-readers are great for.
When I read paper books, I hold onto them for long periods of time. I just purchased a new bookshelf specially for my “to be read” pile. Once in a while, I go through the process of deciding which books to donate (捐赠), but usually the idea of parting with a book feels like giving away a part of my soul (灵魂).
Physical books may not be the most efficient medium, but they are the most meaningful. So keep your Kindle, by all means. But I’ll be happy hoarding (贮存,聚藏) with my library.
47.Why did the writer give his iPad to his brother
48.What does the writer want to learn by reading
49.How does the writer feel when parting with a book
50.Which do you prefer, e-books or paper books And why (Please give two reasons)

How Audiobooks Help Readers and Inspire a Love of Books
Not long ago, one of my third graders Jack was struggling (挣扎) to find books he liked. His teacher reported that he kept choosing books that were too simple or too difficult for him to manage on his own.
I visited with Jack one morning to find out what he was looking for. He started telling me that he just didn’t like to read, but after a bit of conversation, he shared that he actually loved books about dragons.
I thought of the Dragon Masters series. I took the first book off the shelf. When I opened the book, there were pictures to help him understand the story more easily. He was excited. We sat down to read a bit together, but it quickly became clear that it was hard for him to read. He was upset, but I told him I had an idea.
We downloaded Sora which is a reading app with audiobooks and searched for an audiobook of the first Dragon Masters book. We printed it and picked up a bookmark to hold under each line as the narrator (讲述者) read so he could follow along. Two days later, he was back in the library happily. The last time I checked, he was nearing the end of the series.
I have advised teachers to use audiobooks with struggling readers. However some people hold that audiobooks are not a substitute (替代品) for silent reading. I disagree. When a student struggles to decode (解码), the interest in reading disappears very quickly. Audiobooks can help students by allowing their joy of reading to increase as they continue to improve their reading skills in class.
“If we give kids an audiobook, won’t that make them depend on them forever ” The answer is, I deeply doubt it. When we used training wheels, they didn’t prevent us from learning how to ride a bike. They provided support as we got confidence, and we learned to let them go and ride off into the sunset at the end of the street. If a student is enjoying audiobooks as part of their learning, the student will be a real reader when working with teachers to increase confidence in written text.
51.What kind of books did Jack like to read
52.Why was Jack excited when the writer opened the book
53.How could Jack follow along with the narrator
54.Would you like to try audiobooks Why or why not (Please give two reasons.)
