五、 阅读理解。
Have you ever heard of the sentence “You never get a second chance to make a first impression(印象).”? It may sound like an unusual piece of advice, but it is true—the first impression someone gets of you when meeting you for the first time will probably influence how that person might treat you or react to you in the future.

What is even more interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create the first impression in about three seconds. When you meet someone for the first time, by the time you state your name or shake hands, the person has already formed an opinion about what kind of person you are.

So how do you make a good first impression? All things the grown-ups tell you, such as being polite and being well-dressed, are very important. However, the most important tool for making a good first impression is your face. Smiling, being responsive and looking like you are happy will always leave a positive impression on people, especially those who do not know you. Most people, generally speaking, are ready to smile back when they are smiled at.

Furthermore, smiling and being in a positive mood will help you to know and get a better understanding of new things. This means that you can possibly be friendlier to people you do not know and be more creative and able to solve problems more quickly. So if you ever need a reason to be happy, think about the wonderful people you might meet and impress them with a cheerful smile.

Even in a rush, he didn’t fail to say “sorry”. One day, after I bought some bananas, the shopkeeper was passing me the change, but I wasn’t 2. ready for it and a coin dropped onto the ground. “Sorry, madam,” he said while bending forward to pick it up. While eating, the elders will use chopsticks to 7 food for guests as a tradition and ask them to eat 8 . As a guest, you should accept their goodwill readily. But nowadays the younger people seldom behave in the similar way.

After dinner, tea and fruit are usually served. When the guests are to leave, the host may still politely ask them to stay. They don’t have to take it 9 and they can try to find a good moment to leave. 四、 (2023·如皋市实验初中模拟)阅读理解。
Whether you are teaching an elementary Spanish class or passing Spanish on to your children, it is important to teach children good manners. And there are culturally proper manners that children need to know.

These five manners are considered good manners throughout Latin America. Of course, these are good manners in the US too, but they are not given much attention because the opposite manners are not considered particularly rude in Spanish-speaking countries. However, the opposite manners are negative and can change the impression people have of children (and adults)!
All of these good manners can be practised by children with different language levels.

Good manners for the kids learning Spanish:
★ When you hand something to someone, put it directly into his or her hand. Do not toss things to people.
★ Keep your feet on the floor. Do not put your feet on chairs.
★ When you move away from some people or leave a room, say “con permiso”. Don’t just walk away.
★ If someone sneezes, say “salud”, which means “take care” in English.
★ When you arrive, greet everyone. When you leave, say goodbye to everyone.

There are lots of resources to teach children good manners in Spanish. Many polite manners also involve language. Here you will find resources to teach polite expressions, including books and a song. There are also videos that teach polite manners.

In my experience, kids are interested in what is considered polite behaviour in different cultures, and they want to learn to act properly. We work hard to teach them to use Spanish. It is important that they also know how to interact(相互影响) so that others are comfortable and they can make the most of the language they have learned.

( B )1. The passage is written for .
A. travellers who will go abroad on holiday
B. teachers who are teaching in Spanish class
C. parents who care about their children’s manners

B. Jim sneezes, and his friend gets angry with him.
C. Jim comes in and says “good morning” to his classmates.
D. Jim doesn’t say goodbye to everyone when he leaves a room.

五、 (2022·苏州吴江区期末改编)阅读理解。
Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.

Most travellers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without saying anything. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway, and if you’re travelling in Thailand, never touch people’s heads or point your feet at people. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards—you should read the card carefully, not just putting it in your pocket.

In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. In South America people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA, you need to give people more personal space. Also, it’s rude to interrupt Japanese people while they are talking to you. You must wait until they finish before you start speaking.
In restaurants in the UK you can’t leave a bit of food on your plate. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s bad luck.
With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer(更喜欢) going on holiday in their own countries—or they might just decide to stay at home!

Teenagers are the future of our motherland and also the symbol of our city. What should we do to become a virtue teenager of our city?

At school, we should study hard and form good learning habits. In our spare time, we can do regular exercise to have a healthy body. It’s our duty to help parents do some housework at home and we should always be thankful for what our parents have done for us. Parents will be happier if we can communicate more with them. Sometimes, if we make mistakes, we’d better face and correct them in time. What’s more, we should obey the rules and not speak loudly in public. Last but not least, keep in mind that safety comes first.
In my opinion, we are supposed to do all of the above. I sincerely hope everyone can join us and try to be a virtue teenager.

二、 (2023·泰州)阅读理解。(本题共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)
Now, primary students learn cooking at school. It has been discussed by teachers and parents. Some think that it is a useful skill for students, while others think it’s a waste of time. Some even think it’s just a show. But do they really understand cooking?

It’s been said that good cooking is an art form. The truth is that it’s much more than that. When talking about different foods from all around the world or cultures and histories of dishes, students are connected to the world and learning history and culture in a new field. When learning cooking, students measure(测量) materials from time to time, or find oil and water don’t usually mix. Students are also learning Maths and Science in practice.

The importance of failures in making food is as much as successes. Li Mei, 11, was crazy about the yummy cakes made by her father and wanted to make one on her own. But when taking her cake out, she was frustrated to find that the cake was hard and black at the bottom. Her father told her when he was 13, he tried to make cakes but wasted boxes of eggs. Then together with Father, Li Mei found out what had gone wrong and succeeded in making one. Li Mei learned from the failure of cooking and could be braver to face failures.

Apart from the practical skills, cooking builds the character. It encourages kids to work with others. It also encourages them to be open to foods they might not have tried. Though being good to our health, carrots were hated by 12-year-old Xiao Lei. But he started to love them after he made a salad with them. By cooking, students put down their phones and work together with family members in the kitchen. By cooking, students form the habit of doing labour work. As a part of labour education, cooking is a way to teach kids vital skills in the 21st century, such as creativity and teamwork. If these skills aren’t taught to students today, they might hardly survive in the future.
