Each of us fails from time to time. If we are wise, we accept these failures as a necessary part of the caring process. As a parent or a teacher, we should help our children 15 this fact. Donnie and his teacher, Mary Anne, give us a good example.
Donnie was a third-grader. His 16 of failure kept him from classroom games that other children enjoy. Mary was a young and pretty teacher, and she loved children. She tried to build Donnie’s self-confidence, but 17 changed for quite a long time.

She kissed Donnie and stood up. “Here,” she said, “I’ll leave one of these erasers on your desk so you’ll remember that everybody makes mistakes, even teachers.” Donnie looked up at his teacher in 23 and with a smile.

Marisa, Arts make China special. Our Chinese paintings are famous. They are my favourite. They represent the old and new China. I personally like the paintings of landscapes. My favourite is the Chinese flute. The sound can be sweet like a bird or mysterious like the jungle. Yours, Luk Sun Luk Sun, We too have arts that make Guatemala special. “Come on, Simon,” said Gabe. “Let’s try out our new saucers! The snow is perfect.” “I’m not ready,” Simon said. He watched his older brother set out for the door. “What’s to get ready ” Gabe asked. Simon wanted to say “I need to learn how to steer (掌握方向) the saucer.” or “What if the other kids laugh if I mess up ”. But he said nothing.
“You’re going to miss a lot of fun,” Gabe said.
“Come on, Simon,” said Mum. “Your brother will help you.”
Simon spent as much time as he could pulling on his snow trousers and boots. His brother walked to the front hall. “Let’s go!”
The brothers walked to the park, the saucers bumping against their snow pants. Simon could see the sledding hill in front of them. To him, it looked more like a sledding mountain. It was so high that he thought he couldn’t conquer (征服) it. Kids were taking turns on sleds and saucers, screaming all the way down. Simon couldn’t tell if their cries meant they were happy or scared. He knew which one he felt.
Gabe was taking the steps two at a time. “Come on!” he called to Simon. Simon started up. He was both sweating and freezing. Should he turn back But the line of kids on the steps behind him meant he had to keep climbing. At the top, the kids waited excitedly. Was he the only one who could not move his legs
His brother stopped. “Do you want me to go down with you ” he asked. When they were younger, they used to ride on one sled down the gentle slope in their backyard. Seeing his older brother’s face calmed Simon. Memories came flooding back. Gabe had encouraged him a lot in the past. But he knew Gabe wanted to fly down without him.
“Are you two going or not ” a girl behind him asked.
Simon took a deep breath. “I’m going. By myself.”
“Good for you, Simon,” Gabe said.
Simon sat on the saucer and tightly held the plastic handles. His heart was doing leapfrogs. Gabe gave him a small push on his back. Suddenly, he was moving down the hill like a wild polar bear. He had the handles in a death tightly held when the saucer spun around. But he dropped rapidly down the hill backward. Backward! He couldn’t stop. Was he going to crash Why had he thought this was a good idea
The ground levelled off and Simon’s saucer slowed, and then suddenly stopped at the man-made pile of snow. He fell down and lay on his back, breathing hard.
“Are you all right ” Gabe asked, walking over him.
Simon sat up slowly and looked around.
“Simon, say something! Say something!” Gabe said.
Simon smiled widely. “Again ”

Languages have been coming and going for thousands of years, but in recent times there has been less coming and a lot more going. When the world was still populated by hunter-gatherers, small, closely knit (联系) groups developed their own forms of speech which have no connection with each other. Some language experts believe that 10, 000 years ago, when the world had just five to ten million people, they spoke perhaps 12, 000 languages between them.
Soon afterwards, many of those people started settling (定居) down to become farmers, and their languages too became more settled and smaller in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrialization (工业化), the development of the nation-state and the wide spread of basic education, especially globalisation and better communications in the past few years, all have caused many languages to disappear, and dominant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking over.
At present, the world has about 6, 800 languages. And they are used in different parts of the world. The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages, often spoken by many people, while hot wet zones have lots, often spoken by small numbers. Europe has only around 200 languages; the Americas about 1, 000; Africa 2, 400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3, 200, of which Papua New Guinea alone offers over 800. The median number (中位数) of speakers is only 6, 000, which means that half the world’s languages are spoken by fewer people than that.
Already well over 400 of the total of 6, 800 languages are close to extinction (消亡), with only a few elderly speakers left. For example, Busuu in Cameroon, Chiapaneco in Mexico, Lipan Apache in the USA or Wadjigu in Australia: None of these seems to have much chance of survival.

A. About 6, 800. B. About 3, 400. C. About 2, 400. D. About 1, 200.
( ) 37. What is the main idea of the text
A. New languages will be created.
B. Geography decides how language changes.

Schools in Finland gave up handwriting lessons in 2016, and students were taught how to type and send text messages. Although handwriting is an important part of the curriculum (课程) in the UK, some teachers think typing is now more important. Some people say schools should accept modern life, and others want to protect the important and necessary skill. So what do you think Should all exams be typed
Yes—everything is typed these days.
Handwriting is a thing of the past. A 2021 survey found that one in 10 people in the UK wrote nothing by hand that year. With emails and text messages, people’s main ways of communication are typed, not handwritten. Also, children get more used to working on devices (设备). Most written work now is done digitally. Typed tests would be better preparation for the world of work. Exams should be about testing students’ knowledge, not their handwriting skills. Typed tests would make it easier for everyone to show what they’ve learned.
No—handwriting is an important skill.
Being able to write well is of great importance. Even if people aren’t writing as much as they used to, they’ll still need dear handwriting to fill in forms, for example. Although adults may do most of their writing on computers, a lot of schoolwork is still done by hand. Therefore, handwritten tests are suitable. In fact, studies have shown that people learn more when they write them down by hand than when they’re typing on a keyboard. If the purpose of schools and exams is for children to remember all this information in later life, then handwritten tests are the way to go.
